The bus was driven by one of London Transport's Divisional Mechanical Inspectors called Maurice Padgett, who I met once. He looked a lot like Roger Moore and had a great time making the film. He also taught Roger to drive an RT, which takes a bit of skill with their pre-select gearbox.
The bus used was a second hand bus from London that had the top removed and put back on with ball bearings attached so that it would easily slide off on impact with the bridge.
Maurice Patchett* - Sorry, he's my Grandad. But yes, he had a great time shooting this film. Throwing a double decker round a skid pan looks quite fun!
Yes sorry. I referred back to a section of a book called "The bus we loved" which had a section of London Buses used in films and TV programmes. You are right. It's been so long that I looked at it, I probably got confused. Sorry about that.
@BurionX only if the top deck has been specially weakened by being cut so it all tears off in one go, otherwise it would probably get stuck as all the metal and interior would get crushed and squashed under the bridge

I Love This Scene . It Reflects " The Quintessential James Bond 007 "
They removed the top of the bus and reattached it loosely with greased ball bearings so that it would easily come off when hitting the bridge.
One of my favourite Bond chases, though the one with the 2CV was the best.
This is the best Bond movie.
Jane Seymour was actually in the bus when they did that stunt with the bridge, even though there was no need for her to be there!
Bloody 'ell. I used to go to school on these old RT buses.
Hee hee this i I love

Nope. She was also apparently not even remotely as calm as it appears she was in the film!!
An ex London Transport RT type bus with a top speed of 50mph. Makes me wonder how the motorbikes cant keep up with it.

@MrThePandaman The Queen's state vehicle and The Beast, which is the official car of Obama (for obvious reasons).
1:55 Will that really happen if a double decker bus tries to get under a low bridge?
