@@patrickboian8545 *Apparently* (according to the 'Fallen God' comics which are still disputed as to whether they should be considered canon or not) Athena grew insanely power-hungry once she entered that 'higher plane of existence' she mentioned in GOW 3 (which has been speculated to be under the supervision of the 'One True,' Abrahamic God, which was a real concept theorized by Gnostic Christians) and from then on used whatever methods possible to achieve her goal of ruling over all the different mythologies.
Even if that meant compromising her own morals by helping Kratos destroy Olympus. Kratos was a wilful puppet of Athena throughout the entirety of GOW 3 and after he released Hope to humanity, Athena punished him by materialising the Blades of Chaos wherever he went. Again, this is all still unconfirmed by Santa Monica.
However, Cory Barlog *HAS* confirmed that Kratos' purpose is to destroy all mythologies. Whether or not Athena is still pulling the strings is still up for debate.

I'd be interesting to see that the mortals that survived Kratos' rampage became gods of the Roman Pantheon after Greece fell.
so in context if kratos gave the power to athena it would be all over again the same style of rule like zeus. so by him impaling himself he releases the power to the mortals so they can use it and figure out for themselves how to live without influence of the gods which is way athena is mad because now that zues is gone she wanted to rule. but kratos just said F.... YOU to that plan.
This fight is always super mega hype as well as the funniest thing ever for me to see gamers deal with.

In the end after killing himself, his body healed and the reason of that is he is cursed to not able to kill himself. Also smth else to mention, the blades of chaos follow him everywhere he goes, so if he tries to get rid of them, they'll come back to him.

@@lhadidz5177 a popular theory among the fanbase is that the different mythologies exist in their geological locations on Earth, so it was really only Greece that had this apocalyptic event, so Kratos after GOW3 traveled to the nordic lands before GOW4.

Gawd dayum this was a fire episode, the ending especially. One of the BEST boss fights in gaming history imo.
1:03:24: kratos died on the phoenix logo and when a phoenix dies, its rebirths form its own ashes. That's why kratos can't be killed. Even if he does die, he will respawn because of the logo

there is an official comic showing how Kratos wanders around the world after this, trying to get rid of the blades (representing his past), he even arrives to Egypt and all, it doesn't really explain how he ends up in the North tho, iirc

Plus the first game literally ends with kratos attempting suicide, and so does the third, but the context and significance is completely different. It's called long term storytelling

Quick tip on the claws of hades in the souls section (go to Upgrade screen and press triangle) select the gorgon serpent soul and it freezes the harder enemies

There’s actually a comic that explains how kratos got to Norse mythology somewhat and is canon. After god of war 3 he “kill’s himself” but he is cursed that he cannot die by his own hands, so he ends up in Egypt after travelling around. He is tasked to save the people from a monster by an Egyptian god, which he does. However that’s where it ends, so he isn’t actually realm travelling or anything, it’s just like crossing borders. Hopefully we get to see more backstory as to how kratos got to Norse mythology and maybe a possible return to the Greek world in ragnarok.

Bro congrats on finishing GOW 3, but it feels like you want more. If by chance give "GOW Ascencion" a try, in terms of main weapon the blades of chaos in that games is without question way superior to the blades of athena and blades of exile. I'm sure you'll love the combat in that one....

In the god of war novel based on the new game, it says that wolves took kratos to scandinavia, i think that would be fenrir and could be explained in ragnarok, the world of god of war is on a larger version of earth where all mythologies co exist and they are separated by actual land, norse mythology is in scandinavia, greece mythology is in greece, egyptian in egypt etc.

They explain how he ended up in Norse mythology in the comic book. After this he realizes he can't die so he travels the world and end up in Egypt. He meets the Egyptian god of wisdom and kills a giant hippo monster and then leaves Egypt and then on his travels he comes across three giants wolves and a hooded figure that manaes to knock him out and drag him to the Norse pantheon. When he awakens he is in the forest in Midgard and a couple years later Faye meets him camping out in the woods. She falls in love with him and they get married and live together for 75 years before they decide to have a child together.

Yes, he essentially gave the power of hope to humanity, as he can't trust gods for everything that they did to him. Even Athena herself fell for one of the evils from the box: Greed. That's why she's so obsessed with the power of hope: she basically wanted to be the one and only god

To answer your question, he survived because he is cursed as punishment for his actions and cannot end his own life, and is forced to wander the earth for eternity. He went Scandinavia because he wanted to get as far away as he could from Greece and most of all, his past.
What he did at the end of the game was release Hope to humanity. Hope is currently the most OP power we are aware of in the universe. Athena represented greed, Kratos chaos, and Zeus, fear.

What Kratos does at the end is giving up hope for humanity, then kills himself, as he is his ultimate enemy, the one he hates the most for everything. Then realizes he can't die by his own hand, it's a curse. He wonders the ruins of the world knowing this until he meets Faye.
It was not pandora that awakened hope. I think it was his family forgiving him. Because Athena said the reason that hope was trapped inside was because of the guilt, only his family’s forgiveness can remove this obstruction.
