Few years ago I saw the ballet and choir of the Russian Army in Bilbao and I really enjoyed that show. They were incredibely good at dancing and singing, they are very proud of their culture so that they are passionate and strong. In my opinion, they are the best dancers in the world and their voices are excellent.

very intresting as the traditional dances change in connection with the country. If we look south america's tipical dance they use a lot more hips' movement. Russian dance instead focus on rigid position using legs or arms. I don't know why but i find it quite intresting:)
+Alessia Casavecchia (alelive96) Maybe that is because of traditional clothing? I;m Russian, not South American, so I'm not quite sure about their traditional clothes, but I'm sure it is more open and shows more body thanks to hot climate. So, hips movements are more visible in that kind of small clothing. As you see this costumes on Russian dancers, it's typically quite wide, so the hips ares is completely covered and any movements will not be really visible, that is why they use hands and legs which will make the dance more clear and visible.

Alessia Casavecchia and these dresses on picture is southern costumes, the dresses in my northern area are even more closed, the waistline lies right under the brests so nobody will see your hips movements no matter how you try :)
And as Brazilians are famous for big shapes, it makes more sense for them to dance this way. Russians do not really own that kind of build.

Haha another canadian :) this is a culture that is very much alive in our country. I come from a Ukrainian settled town, and we have lots of festivals in our area. Indeed there are ukrainian dance competitions, which is very very similar to Russian dance, all across the country.

Why must we read politics into everything? This is a very old folk song about berry-picking. And those "girls" are women, just as the "boys" are men. (I found the men equally mesmerizing.) Folk music is to be enjoyed, as is most music. It is not all political, though some is. This decidedly is not. I am an American friend with Russian heritage.
