London circa 1961. Filmed by the late George and Alma Ollerhead of Wheelock, Sandbach, Cheshire. I found a large collection of 8mm reels when we were clearing their house.
Yep, a total lack of diversity. All those people captured on this film could never have imagined the dystopian nightmare it’s become. I was just 3 when this was shot.
By birth I’m a Londoner although I haven’t lived there for umpteen years, but this is the London I recall, having been 3 at the time this cine film was shot. People were so tidy in comparison with today. I saw Captain Scott’s ship The Discovery berthed on the embankment. It’s now in Dundee where it was made and where, ironically, I now live.
