  • The SN76489 sound chip was used in the Sega Master System and Megadrive game platforms. I wired one to a Teensy microcontroller acting as a USB MIDI device. This is an early prototype. It currently uses one tone channel only but supports MIDI velocity, pitch bend and aftertouch messages.
The song you heard is "Taïkonaut's Love" from Yoann Turpin's "Rhythm'n Bits" album.

The song is beautiful. The PSG square sound plus some reverb, vibrato is also very nice.
    Thanks

I love this! It's like a Gameboy synthesizer to improvise on. Perfect for a jam session or jazz band practice lol.

Hello, I am looking at the specs and it says it has 16 volume levels... do you know how the chip handles this? Does it have an onboard DAC, or perhaps VCAs somewhere inside?

What library did you use to read USB MIDI? I can't for the life of me find anything that does it, unless you're using a traditional MIDI input.. can't quite see

As far as I can remember, it was the USB MIDI implementation from Teensyduino: www.pjrc.com/teensy/td_midi.html
