    I think 1998 and after was not only just Mariah realizing the fragility of her voice, but as a result she became much more conservative in her live attempts. Like 2003, when her voice regained belting ease, she still was afraid to go for “solid ground” E5 or attempt to sing without you live. She didn’t really regain confidence until 2005, but then vocal problems started coming back in 2006. 2017 marked another setback in confidence, which she somewhat regained in caution era.

      she attempted the E5 in CB though

      @@jeremyechols6828 she did, but it wasn’t until very late tour dates, so I guess my point was that her vocal health often recovers faster than her confidence.

    I think the straight "tear them away" fits better with the current arrangement and backing vocals than the studio vocal tbh

    she attempted the emotions notes in 2018 too iirc. at least a couple of them, ofc not through the whole song lol during some dates of the Asian tour

    I get the disappointment of her not singing the high note on eeeemotions, but the E vowel is soooo hard to belt at that height, and really can’t be done healthily unless you change the vowel to more of an “eh”. At that point she’s just taking care of herself

    Why is Mariah's vibrato so perfect when she sang endless love in the 90's though

    Ngl the st johns performance of hero was offish in a way(probably because it was the last song on the setlist am i mean she did sing o holy night that night sooo...). The Eb5 kinda saved it but other than that her voice was kinda wobbly and flat on certain parts in that song.

    • @outsideskippy1997

      St. John the divine is so weird to me too, like my theory is that her voice was in transition so she hadn’t figured out her daydream placement all the way yet. On all those 14 F5s she hits in JTTW, each one of them sounds different, like some have a higher larynx, some are chestier than others. She her amazing technique ensured a good sound, but she definitely was in transition.

      @@outsideskippy1997 1994 in itself is more daydream then how music box was recorded ngl(if that makes sense lol)

    • @pmalkan0829
      @pmalkan0829 Před 5 měsíci +2

      Yes! She sounded lighter and brighter than daydream at times. Personally, I like MB the best because it sounded like the perfect balance between her debut voice and daydream voice. Not too bright but not so heavy that she struggled on the upper belts.

      @@pmalkan0829 I don't know where did the myth of Mariah being heavy on top notes came from. She was never particularly weighty on her highest notes.

    • @LaeeqaJardien
      @LaeeqaJardien Před 5 měsíci +2

      @@KajiVocals in her earlier years 1990-1992(and during the music box tour) mariah used a much more chestier mix approach when she sung so notes like F#5 and F5 carried more weight than what she did from 94 onwards. From 94 she learned how to balance her mix proportionately so that its equal amounts of chest and headyness therefore a lighter tone. Tokyo 96 os the last time i heard mariah use a slightly chestier approach. The difference is very visible when you compare it to her european part of the tour.
