Most of my VR experience has come from Quest 2, so having a portable PC to play with would maybe cause me to play PC VR.

I know I tried a lot of games just to make the rog ally crash or lag a lot but it’s just a beast for gaming

Thank you for point out the FPS. I did some recording recently and noticed the same but in game it wasn't choppy. Glad I'm still getting this.

Hmm this is really amazing really pushing to towards a rog ally rather than a steam deck so I can play pc vr remotely without a carrying a heavy laptop thanks alot.

I would love to know why this runs so well on an RDNA3 based APU when my 7900 XTX is still a laggy mess in VR. Great video tho! :) This might be something I look in to as a portable VR rig for when I am not staying at home.
I would like to know why it's a laggy mess on one of the most powerful GPU's in existence? Surely you're doing something horrifically wrong, since VR isn't even a laggy mess on my RX 570 which your GPU makes look like a joke.
@@jaymills1111To my knowledge there was/is a bug that the driver had for the 7000 series for AMD. They've since resolved it and it runs fine on my end nowadays.
This video convinced me to buy the Rog Ally :) I would probably only use it in VR for Virtual Desktop though
What were the graphics settings you used for Serious Sam VR?

Just got my son a extreme for his bday and man this thing has me lil jelly , I was playing VR back on a GTX 750ti lol things are awesome

Late comment, but the one thing about the Rog Ally Extreme that makes it so much better for VR than most other handhelds, is surprisingly, the CPU. The CPU is often a big issue for latency and motion sickness when playing VR, as well as causes issues with loading large worlds in VR. Both of these are mitigated, leaving the GPU to chug away at its heart's content.
Would like to see a review with steamlink on this thing now that it exists. Foviated rendering helps.
Also try Skyrim VR and Fallout4 VR.
If these two work with the default settings, I would like to purchase them.
Loving the reviews Blundy hows the connectivity such as keyboard and mouse and any issues connecting to a monitor or TV is you wanted to in say a hotel room when travelling?
I've been using a generic USB-C dock with a HDMI out on it for video capture in these vids (it also has an SD card reader, USB-A ports etc... everything worked fine immediately, zero issues - including external keybaord etc).

Hello, I was wondering if you could test this in the plugged in 30w mode. And maybe test games like blades and sorcery or minecraft with and without shaders that is more cpu and gpu intensive
I’m curious if New Retro Arcade Neon will run on it.
I used to take my Quest 2 and laptop with me when I would travel for work, but it got a bit cumbersome. I preordered the Ally when it went live, I may have to try traveling with it and the Quest 2 the next time I'm out of town.

100% Native resolution, the only sensible choice for this kind of test.

I’m curious about the performance and battery life when connected via USB-C as well. Is there a way to have the headset connected via USB-C and still charge the Ally at 30W?

For a while now, Ive been thinking of a portable computer (not a laptop) capable of driving the quest and being in the correct form factor to stow in a backpack or something like that. I haven't really seen anything that fits the bill. This is looking like the right kind of device. I guess you could probably pull off general PC VR if you kept the settings medium to low. I understand it runs windows 11. I imagine this would run some of the productivity apps like horizons and immersed pretty well too

Blunty thank you for the video. I would like to know if the roc ally will be able to run Microsoft Flight Simulator 2020 the VR version, smoothly. If I see this test done by any youtuber I will be sold immediately. MSFS vr version is all I really do in virtual reality.

i loved this!!! ever since i saw the steam deck, i wanted a pc gaming handheld but was very offput by the screen quality and fan noise. The rog ally seems to be the perfect fit because the Ayaneo 2 is way overpriced. its odd to me that upon launch of the steam deck, a lot of people asked about vr support (which valve is rumored to integrate in the steam deck 2) but no other reviewer besides you touched on this subject. Thankyou so much for this video and as always, keep up the amazing videos.

Just don't ever turn the screen off on accident and expect your game to resume if you're, ya know, using it portably.
