  • The first part of a new series (as promised) showing the construction of a permanent model railway in the spare room. Part 1 - preparation of the room and planning the layout and baseboards. Sorry the video is so long, but there is a lot to talk about :o)

On the point about streamline points and track separation, I think you'll find that the track spacing comes out almost prototypical (well it does in N gauge). In OO/HO the prototypical gap between running lines (The 10 foot) should be about 46mm measured between the inside faces of adjacent rails.

I am just starting to plan my own model railway layout so it was fortunate to find your videos at this time. Subbed!

Just found your channel and am really enjoying your approach to model railway design.
The only comment I would make is that I paid for AnyRail (£35) as it is such a useful and well built program. Also in the whole scheme of model railway costs the £35 fee is a drop in the ocean.
Looking forward to watching the other parts and seeing how it all develops, keep up the good work.

I\'m not sure but ,if anyone else is searching for model railroad layouts and scenery try Stiklind Model Train Fixer (Have a quick look on google cant remember the place now ) ? Ive heard some great things about it and my work buddy got excellent results with it.

Thanks for your comments. I did consider buying it, but was so slow to make up my mind that in the end I had the design ready!

I\'m not sure but ,if anyone else wants to learn about how do you make a model train layout try Pycanta Model Railroaders Protocol (should be on google have a look ) ? Ive heard some unbelievable things about it and my brother in law got cool success with it.

Really good video, looking forward to seeing it develop. The planning of both track and baseboard sections is very impressive.

Thanks for the comments. I see what you mean about the South. The right hand side will possibly be fuelling and cleaning, but you're right in order to get to that area a loco will have to go through the shed. The left hand side is free for an access road to the village station (and also on the lifting section) so I can't really extend in that direction. I will look at moving the shed over to the right and have the sidings on the left so there is easier access to them. Do you have any ideas?

I must follow this, my proposed model railway room is about the same size as yours.

Nice work, well done. I think the south yards would be difficult to work because your loco will be in and out of the shed to do any shunting .

Great video, really helpful info re electro frog geometry...many hours have I wasted trying to work out why a plan hasn't matched up when I've used set and flexi!

Couldn't agree more with the comments about AnyRail - It's comparatively cheap at £35. I lost a hard drive, and my copy. When I contacted the company they had records of me purchasing it, so sent the latest free of charge fantastic service.

hello... as i was looking for videos to watch, i came across yours... i like how you are planning your layout ... but & please don't take this in the wrong way, even though you have a well planned layout on paper, you will be making some changes when construction starts... i, myself have deviated from my original drawings..& always for the better.. are you Aussie or British... the reason i ask is because you mentioned the 6 "P's" & a good friend /sub told me the same thing.. he from Australia... ANY HOW.. i have subbed to your channel i will be following you on your journey... if you get the time, i would appreciate it if you took a look at my channel... thanks for sharing... vinny

@ about 11:45 PrtSc onto a word document. (I wouldn't normally be so cheeky but as the op has worked a bit of a swifty with the layout design programme I don't believe he will mind).
