Technically, Auto is not evil. If anything, it is being the perfect robot : protecting humankind. It follows its directive to the letter, and the directive said "do not return to Earth". It was not evil, just following orders. It could not understand its directive was meaningless because it's all it knew.

Auto may not of been evil as an entity but Auto's actions were evil in that it resorted to the most violent and unethical solutions to its problems, such as trapping people against their will and destroying Wall-E.. so while Auto as a robot may be amoral its acts were definitely evil in the traditional sense of harming others.

His actions are evil so he is evil indirectly, not directly but indirectly. It shows us that one should not be careless with artificial intelligence and certainly not careless with the issuing of orders. You would tell an artificial intelligence that it should maintain the environment and nature, it would wipe out humanity

If you saw in the earlier scene where she zapped him, his battery level started beeping due to overflowing and he was stunned for a moment. That zap she gave him at the end overcharged him again, causing whatever was ”right” with him now (working as a WALL-E unit is supposed to) to go ”wrong” again. It’s almost like a glitch causing him to load a different save file.

“We are so fixated on technology that we have forgotten who we are as humans.”
Don’t forget the obsession with trends, like how everybody decided to change the color of their suits to blue, or how they might have gotten into the habit of using those chairs because of how nice they looked in the video at the beginning.
But the biggest problem here is the idea of excessive consumerism. I mean, you got this company that competes in what I’m assuming is every industry, such as banks, real estate, luxury resorts, and merchandise of every kind. And as a result of all that competition, as well as the demands of consumers, humanity ended up creating more than they could handle.
Sorry. Guess I got a little carried away.

I always thinks it’s sad when seeing the scenes where Wall.E doesn’t remember anything. But if he had been a human, then that surgery would have replaced his entire body, including his brain, he wouldn’t be the same person. Cause none of his memories would be inside him

I always cry when Wall-E gets rebooted because I know what it's like to have been forgotten by someone you love... I was Wall-E... I lived with my girlfriend who changed over the years and I was alone. Waiting for the woman I loved to come back. Waiting for her to remember who she was when she loved me.. I could have left at any time.. Given up and gone home.. But I stayed. Every day I would tell her that I loved her. Every day, I looked after her and the house, her car, and the pets. I kept hoping that the good person she was would come back. I would see her from time to time. Peeking though the person she became. She was still in there.... -- She died in my arms of cancer this June.. I'd taken her to the hospital and I was there every day with her.. In the end, I got the "Quantum Leap" ending... -- I spent years holding my own hands like Wall-E and praying that things would change. Sometimes, there are no happy endings. Or redemption. (addendum :. "Quantum Leap" was a TV show from the 90s in which Dr. Beckett would leap from person to person, year to year, and put the wrong things right. The last episode, ends on a black screen with the words, "Dr. Sam Beckett never returned." --- Fans were in an uproar because all those seasons of waiting to see if he gets home, and we felt like we got gypped. --- It's only when you look back at it as an older person that you realize he made the right choice. That the hero's job, is never really done.) -- In my relationship, I felt cheated. That had there been more time, maybe the good person she was would have come back. In the last six months, I lost her, the house, I had to give our pets to the shelter... And now I'm truly alone. Just me and the ghosts. The memories of the happy and the sad. And I will always be haunted by the last image in my head of her laying in a very quiet room turning blue and cold in the dim light.. 37 years wasn't long enough. And those last months flew through me like angry birds with razors..

It's one of Pixar's most beautiful movies! The animation and details as you pointed out at the beginning, are just stunning.
And so many messages, about technology, and conservation and care for the earth!
Interestingly, the Captain's exploration of what earth was like through the computer Data base shows the positive technology and how it can be used for good things!
I'm so glad you watched this and enjoyed it!
Btw, there is a Pixar short called "Burn•E" that is related to the movie, and is the events of Wall•E shown from a different robot's perspective, it is hilarious, and you will love it!
It would be awesome if you did a short reaction piece to it, but mostly, if nothing else, watch it for yourself!

I KNEW you would LOVE this one! One of the best animated films ever made! And it's a political sci-fi/love story! With robots! And the animation is ridiculously great! When robots can be more human than humans, that is saying something. But more than anything, this film shows that love indeed has no boundaries. That it's what you do, not what you are that matters. This is also a great easter egg for sci-fi nerds. It has things &/or hints from Alien, 2001, SW, Star Trek you name it. The female computer voice is Sigourney Weaver herself! WALL-E & all the sounds you hear is made by legendary SW sound guru Ben Burrt. This is by far the best Pixar movie ever made. And just that half the film passes before we get some proper dialogue & you are still heavily invested before then shows what movies always should do; show, don't tell!

Nah, the ship isn't evil. It's just following the directives it's been given. It hasn't had the opportunity to 'wake up' like Wall-E, EVE, the captain, those defective robots and other people did. It's just been doing what it was made and told to do. I don't think there's a single 'evil' entity in the movie, just apathy.

@@StickySauce101 Definitely. I'm not excusing it's actions because it might not be considered evil (that's a slippery slope that I don't want to touch here). They were the wrong actions. And not being evil doesn't make it good. I just meant that it hadn't had the character development required to make that distinction. Wall-E did. That's all.

I think the problem isn't tech, per se. But how tech is used by corporations to control our lives, through advertisements, propaganda, and political campaign donations. For example: there is no feasible way to navigate our lives these days without a smartphone, if nothing else than for communication purposes. That isn't by itself a bad thing. The tech isn't the issue, it's how it's been monetized by capitalism and consumerism so that nothing really changes societally for us unless its making some oligarch billions of dollars off the backs of our labor force,
