I love that even though he plays this like a speedrun, he still takes out the time to show off some glitches and watch cutscenes that he likes. It's really low stress and just fun to watch. ^^
I believe the official rules of the Any% speedrun only takes into account the in game time, meaning that time you waste watching the cutscenes does not affect the final time, but I could be wrong. Either way though, the official speedrun requires you to play career mode and play through last man standing on a fresh save so this run wouldn't qualify anyway. Its clearly just meant to be a just for fun thing.

I get the impression that the WVBA in the Punch-Out games is like a boxing version of pro wrestling, where it's more of a spectacle than a sport. All the fighters seem more like performers, given how they prioritize their flamboyant stage personas and colorful, over-the-top theatrics over actual fighting. Maybe Mac is like a younger, stoic version of John Cena, where he's the straight-laced face that the audience roots for as he cuts down one heel after another.

I think my favorite part about this game is that every fight theme is a remix of the Punch Out main theme based on the nationality of the person you're fighting

The amount of learning, pattern and strategy memorization that has to go into mastering these Punch Out games is insane. I know speed runners say they don't actually spend THAT much time practicing their games, but in a game like this, Zallard has clearly put in extensive hours to memorize all the patterns for every fighter.

Hey guys... little advice to shave time off your speedrun... and its very tricky, but works.
Use a three-star punch on Aran Ryan ANYTIME when he attempts to headbutt you. This will knock him out from my experiences in playthroughs.
+MentalWyro I am refering to @ 17:21... but the timing is VERY TRICKY.
+MentalWyro That might be why it wasn't done here, in a marathon run - if you can block it and then just throw out the punch, then it's very consistent when it needs to be thrown. Better option than missing it.

If your in Round 3 at the 2:00 mark he leans back toward the ropes, grabs a soda bottle and downs the whole thing and enters RAGE MODE: No predictable pattern.

Title defense soda pop is just unfair. Got stuck on him as a kid, eventually went back to play the game and beat him by pure memorization.

During Von Kaisers second fight he was talking about how his single segment career mode was designed to lose to him, and that he’d explain later but never did. Anyone know what he was talking about?
Hapurpan In Career Mode, after Title Defense, you face a series of random opponents, with three losses sending you into retirement. The very first fight is usually made much more difficult, so it’s “rigged” for you to lose. Von Kaiser was the first opponent he faced post-TD, so he was the true “Champ”.
bald bull 2 is the hardest? damn, he was the only one I DIDN'T lose the belt to on my first playthrough.
Most people believe he's the hardest because he can only be downed with a star punch. I personally find him to be very hard.

ashby987 Well, we both had our hard times. I can beat all of the fighters on title defense in one try (without rematch), except Soda Pop still gives me some trouble, and Bald Bull is annoying sometimes. Still haven't been able to defeat DK...
