The Smash Community Villainized This Competitor

- Whether you like it or not, Super Smash Bros games are prone to a variety of playstyles that many spectators won't find enjoying. In the worst instances of this though, the community has failed to separate the character from the person, and has relentlessly attacked said competitors.

People will find ways to dislike you. They'll find ways to dismiss you, diminish you, but get good enough at something and what they cannot do is ignore you.
I'm taking a screenshot of this one. Thanks.
Seriously, this happened to me more times than I wished... I never wanted to get dismissed because of my height, my main(s), or my positive opinions on a children's toy product line called "Beyblade," yet HERE I AM.
Well, wherever you are, congrats on getting there! Hope you reach even higher places.
Some people just don’t like watching sonic down b and run away for 7 minutes straight tho which is another perfectly valid feeling and opinion to have.
I somewhat disagree with this argument. Mang0 never got hate when he dominated the melee scene, back when mkleo dominated ultimate, he didn’t get much hate. spargo, shuton don’t nearly get as much as sonix does in current times. I think the whole point of people always hating you because of success is delusional. The reason why sonix gets hated is because his success isn’t really seen as earned as others. He has skill, but has won a lot of sets by timing out his opponents rather than actually playing the game. Now when sonix does play aggressive, he does go agressive. But a large portion of his major wins are from time outs and large sessions of camping. Shuton plays Olimar who has a fairly boring and defensive play style most of the time (throw shit from a distance) but he doesn’t choose to time out like sonix does.
No, I can continue never watching him play.
While Sonix in disadvantage CAN be slow...that dude has one of the coolest ADVANTAGE states ever. Seeing him tear people to pieces is dope af imo.
Hate the character not the player is a good sentiment.
Having good advantage with sonic is basic, almost all his conversions are easy as hell
Do double up air into back air and make that shit true. Shit is not easy
@@proutmobile1228
Of course the haters are going to bust their ass, trying to diminish the character because they think they're right about everything. Exhibit A: proutmobile1228
More like hate Sakurai for giving Sonic a lame moveset. Not Sonic himself
The "hate the char not the player" thing will NEVER he true in this community. Onin getting death threats and people constantly downplaying his achievements to the ground, Sonix and his girlfriend getting harassed by clowns, Hungrybox getting hated on during his prime for playing "lame," ESAM being bald, Shuton getting clowned on every time he plays Aegis, man I can go ON AND ON AND ON AND ON AND ON ♾️
And guess what people are gonna say when confronted about this? "Oh, I DON'T hate Onin but Steve mains should SD IRL!", "It's just a joke!", "Sonix is a joke but no hate!!!", "Sonix' GF is so dumb for dating a Sonic main but no hate!"
I am VERY passionate about this. As a player whose opinions get *heavily* sidelined because I am "not a top player," or because I "am a Corrin & Marth main." Apparently, my opinions and advice doesn't matter because my chars are "bottom tier" and I don't have 67 major wins on my belt...
Oh. My. Gosh.
Ok but ESAM being bald is funny because it's irrelevant. Also it's ok, I believe in your character. Marth high tier.
100% agree. I don't understand how people can't realise that if you don't want to watch someone playing a character you don't like, you can just stop watching! Also, people need to understand that not every character has to play in an extremely aggressive, "hype" way like falcon or fox, characters like puff in melee play in "lame" ways because it is optimal for them and personally I find it quite refreshing and unique from all the other characters. Finally, people need to differentiate character from the player, if you think puff is lame and don't like the playstyle that is fine, but don't get mad at Hbox for playing the character he likes in the optimal way to win.
I agree. But those diehard Harasser bastards are those who won’t . Cuz they don’t have a brain to even agree with that
@@RandomEevee
I often think characters like Falcon are lame as fuck because they so desperately try to style and fail miserably. Like who are you impressing? Right?
@@teenageapple3788 Personally, I think most of the time falcon combos are pretty much the same thing but changed slightly (especially in ultimate). I think every character has potential to be exciting and interesting, but no character inherently is and I find puffs gameplay exciting because she dies so much quicker and has so much risk when coming to rests that they're just much more interesting to me. That's just my opinion, you can believe whatever you want.
low key i respect Sonix for playing past the crowd going against him. he may be playing a character people don’t like to watch but he’s still a respectable player.
His mindset is TOP. TIER. I hate how people never appreciate that. Sonix BELIEVES in Sonic so much. He spoke on Coaches' Corner recently and oooooooo was it good to hear him!
I don’t really think people necessarily hate the character. Like Ken played sonic and every one loved it since he he didn’t play in a campy style. Whereas sonix is the opposite.
@@akujin8689wouldn’t say sonix is the opposite of that, it’s just matchup dependent. He isn’t going to run in vs a wario with waft or an olimar throwing shit at him all game.
@@thunder-vw7on that’s true, but can’t that be also said for every other player aswell? Players tend to choose when to be aggressive and when to be defensive, and yet they don’t get hated. That’s because no one is like him and attempts to just win by time outs so much. That’s why he’s hated
respect ain't required
Hate the character, not the player. It’s such a simple concept, yet the smash community still haven’t obtained the most basic of comprehension skills.
lol
The player decides to play the character, mong.
Cuz they are kids
I'm interested in hearing why you hate the character?
I personally used to hate the character during WiFi but seeing how skilled Sonix is now and his newer playstyle is actually a good watch.
Maybe next time you see him playing against a top player, just sit and watch it with your full attention. I think it would change your mind.
@@Trancerrr I’d rather not hear spindashes or sounds equivalent of a dentist’s tooth cleaning device for 7 minutes straight.
I often like watching Sonix sets, and tbh I think part of that is BECAUSE of the vitriol. I have a tremendous amount of respect for how Sonix takes the hate in strides and continues to do his thing
When he doesn’t play the camping game and actually plays aggressively, Sonix is pretty fun to watch.
Unpopular opinion: He's even fun to watch when playing campy because it highlights that there's more than one way (unga bunga super mash) to play the game optimally. I think there's something really amazing about this game that you can even do that. It's such a free-flowing and open game.
@@PsQueak2 I wouldnt say "free-flowing" when Ultimate has added restrictions on what characters can be played at Tourney's. All smash games have a problem with making extra rules to make the game more exciting. So you cant be mad at casual fans who want to see nothing but action cause that is how Smash has been trying to portray itself since Melee.
Sonix is a good player, but Sonic as a character is flawed and boring. Sonic is such a horribly designed character. There is no creativity in half of his moveset, half his moveset is just turning into a blue ball. Tbh, idk how to fix Sonic as a character but he should have a more creative moveset.
@@myoblivion420move set is based on games that the character came from. So for sonic, the move set is based off his games.
@@myoblivion420 Project M did sonic right
sonix is such a threat in every tournament he plays in and i think it only makes it more exciting to see if my favorite players can take care of sonix or not seeing as everyone is afraid of him and i think he definitely plays into that.
I think people need to realize that the level of negativity and animosity they are so open about towards certain players/characters will damage the community more than those unliked characters/playstyles ever will. No one wants to get into a community where people will hate you just for picking a certain character

Sonix is a very funny guy and the chats reactions to him camping out their fav players is too funny
I once saw an anime in which a character who was the "heel" had to go up against the main character of the arc. They trained so hard to improve and finally got good enough to win. They even got a new world record. They were so engrossed in winning and happy that the next part just hit like a truck. They turned around to see everyone hating them for winning and booing. Saying they are a disappointment despite just breaking a world record. It was one of the most heartbreaking moments I've seen. Imagine all your practice and hard work to finally have a chance in the spotlight just turning on you. People are supposed to be clapping and cheering you on for doing well. However, your success looks like nothing but failure to everyone around you. Your effort is meaningless and your victory is immediately thrown to the wind. Watching a "heel's" story from their pov changes everything and it is such a tragic thing to see. Because of this, I always route for the "heel" because I know that feeling all too well and how devastating it can be.
I hope Sonix continues to improve and keeps winning. I will keep cheering for him. The way people treat him isn't right and I'm glad you made this video to cover the topic. Thank you!
fucking well said man i agree!!!
What was the anime called?
@@_Nexie Uma musume Pretty Derby.
Season 1 is alright. Season 2 covers the arc I was talking about and is significantly better. You don't have to watch season 1 because they cover different characters but season 1 does build up some character relations for the team.
Also everything that happens is based on real life events.
Believe it or not, I was the "heel" character at one point. I have another YT channel for Beyblade. I started out small and everyone wanted me to do grow very well. I stuck to one brand of Beyblade and got almost 12k subs in a year... guess what happened?
Haters... a lot, of haters... because I liked/disliked some toys that they didn't/did... other YTs mocking me, putting their fans against me in discords despite me doing NOTHING to them. I completely distanced myself from the bigger YTs because half of them went from loving me to hating me in a blink of an eye. I wasn't even getting that many subs, by I got a LOT of influence in the community out of nowhere, anyway. That's what made people mad.
I took a super long break but I'm slowly coming back... oh, I'm playing competitive Smash, too... with 3 FE characters, who everyone says I should drop...
Is this deja vu?
@@Spyder-Marth Wait that happened to you Spyder? Im sorry about that. At the very least you are coming back strong better than ever man :)
Sonix plays like an artist, he clearly is talented and haters can cope
Sonix’s superpower is the ability to make Sparg0 look like the underdog. There are only a handful of Ultimate players that share that power. Absolute insanity.
I like watching characters like Sonic. I find Hbox Puff vs Llod Peach very impressive. I like spacing and neutral and battles won on attrition.
I appreciate all styles of play as long as it's well executed so it doesn't bother me, but people in this community need to chill out with the hate towards players. It's supposed to be a game we all love, let's have fun.
Can’t have fun when you have someone playing in a way that isn’t
Edit: not condoning the behavior against Sonic tho People can noise their complaints about the playstyle but taking it out on a player isn’t the way to go
@@GearsioThat is just a way to justify this abuse though? I've yet to find someone who has a genuine solution or code or conduct and just try to defend this nonesense.
@@Gearsio I think it' fine to complain about the player as long as it isn't death threats or anything on that level. Maybe it's because I love football but despise great players like Tom Brady with a passion that I think it's fine. But I can also recognize how good Sonix is but hate his playstyle and therefore hate watching him play but don't hate him as a person. I also like Hbox as a person but his playstyle can also be a bit much, not on the level as Sonix tho.
@@Gearsio this is a horrible take
@@TheRealMallard I agree. Nothing wrong with disliking the playstyle that someone has and rooting against them, but actively hating them is a different story. For example, when Hbox was the #1 melee player he got so much hate for no reason (people telling him that he was killing melee, crowds shouting "fuck hbox", etc) which was totally uncalled for, but rooting for Hbox's opponent or not wanting to watch him play because of his playstyle is totally fine. Have to remember that the only reason the players can do this is because the character allows them to do it, if you wanna hate something then hate the character, not the player.
I personally like sonic gameplay and Sonix has taken it so far. I also appreciate Sonix and the way he has handled the drama
I knew you'd feel for Sonix as you've went through this with Puff.
It’s pretty selfish to hate someone for trying to win. What they’re basically saying for hating on Sonix’s playstyle is you’re not entertaining enough for me, and I don’t like that.
Hopefully Sonix learns to drown this out (if he hasn’t already) because he’s trying to win. He’s not there to entertain the crowd, he’s there to win a tournament.
5:44 villain isn't really the proper term for this sort of thing, a better term for it would be he's being a heel but generally it's someone who isn't liked by the crowd and that person embraces it. kind of like in the early 2010s for you HBox
Someone in the replies has said this, but the smash community is ABSOLUTELY why the game isnt supported by nintendo, isnt respected by other communities, and doesnt get sponsored often.

Glad to hear your perspective on this. You of all people would know how bad player hate gets in the smash community.

I love it. I hope he keeps it up. He’s just playing the game
Sonix has to play the way he plays to win. He knows his character so well that there will be times where he has to camp, play patient, aggressive, etc. Sonix is genuinely just a phenomenal player and shouldn't be getting hate. It's almost near Onin's type of thing. People shouldn't be hating the player. Hate the character and just say, "This character is lame" "I hate this character." It isn't hard to control yourself and simply get an understanding beneath the player and character they use. Fighting games are meant to be played like this here and there, sorry to say that. To answer your question, Sonix is impressing me by the minute. He performs better by the months according by the tourneys I've watched. The way he changes play styles is really good which means he knows his matchups super well. Thats about all I have to say!!
I don’t think I have ever cheered harder for someone than I have for Spargo in grand finals of smash factor. So happy to see he still has that G.O.A.T in him

I fell out of watching smash ultimate for what feels like a few years now and only recently have I returned to watch goml and you would not believe how hype I was to watch Sonix. Watching his play had really inspired me and made me interested in the scene again. I really can't wait to see where we go from here. MKLEO still my #1 though 🎉❤
Honestly Sonix is an excellent player and the mentality the smash community has on campy play styles is far more toxic than any time out Sonic play. As someone who appreciates all fighting games, different play styles and strategies are a core to what makes fighting games great and the smash community is the worst when it comes to their reaction to zoning and camping. Yeah can be annoying but if a player loses to it that's their fault for not dealing with it correctly. The reason games are designed like this is so it doesn't devolve into people just constantly smashing their characters into each other over and over without thinking like some other platform fighters I can think of. People think they want that but every time a game comes out that's like that it can be fun for a bit but people abandon it because it becomes boring. Hopefully someday this community will be better about respecting the skill of a player even if it's not a play style they love.
Sonix egging on the crowd is based
Congrats on winning the melee ultimate tournament!

"Don't hate the player, baby. Hate the game"
honestly, gluttony almost taking the W where Sonix was timing him out was one of the best moments of Smash Factor for me. No one knew how it would go and it was so daaaamn close, I loved it
I like how Sonix is kind of taking the Hungrybox route of playing into the villain role and telling the crowd to bring on the boos.
But it still kind of sucks to see how this community still hasn’t grown past the point of assuming the type of person that someone just from the character that they play and hating them because of that.
It can’t be that difficult to separate the player from the character.
It's not okay to villainize a player just because you don't like their style or character. Sonix is better than 99% of players, and I respect his skill. I will cheer against him, but I do recognize he's very skilled.
And honestly sonix plays very entertaining especially for a sonic, his punish game is insane and he can really sweep away games

I enjoy watching Sonix because when he does approach and get aggressive it's like he's rubbing it in everyone's faces that he CAN be in your face and still kick a**. It's also nice to see some diversity among top players. I feel like it's been Light, MkLeo, Spargo, etc. for like 2 years now. Sonix was always good, but he's GOOD GOOD now. And I appreciate seeing hard work cause upsets.
I support players rather than hate on characters. If someone I root for and loves is on screen I'll watch and stay engaged even if they end up fighting a character I think is "boring". I've never had a problem watching any Sonic or Steve player if they're up against one of my favorites. The story line is the most engaging part of smash bros for me.
Whats funny about this is that wario gluttony and many other top players are camping to win because ultimate is as campy or more campy than even brawl because of the engine and removal of certain options. Shows how important balance in mechanics can be and how making offensive options better doesn't inherently mean that offense will be the dominant strat. In other words hungrybox's campy jigs is less campy than ultimate meta and gamestate as a whole. Also mad respect to sonix in general. Defense is super underappreciated in platform fighters and sometimes far more interesting than the offensive stuff when you dissect the gameplans. Also love to see the growth of Hbox as a player in seeing perspectives on all sides while addressing these large issues in the community at times.
What makes this worse is Sonix seems like a really cool dude
Sonix is free to play the game however he wants to win, and the community is free to dislike it and stop watching if we find it distasteful or boring.
Just because the game allows something doesn't mean he should get applause from the community for doing it. To say otherwise is to create a double standard.
yeah Sonix can do whatever he wants but the audience can't even boo? So dumb from Hbox
Sonix’s personality is amazing. I love how he reacts to boos and wins. I love him, he’s an amazing player and works harder than most players. Im a fan of sonic and I love sonix. He plays amazing, the best edge guarding in the game. I love seeing him camp cause Lowkey I’m so entertained by the chat cause of how mad they get. I hope sonix gets sponsored soon, he deserves it.

Every time I see someone talk trash about Sonix or Sonic, I'm gonna say "Up a stock? You know the vibes."
this sounds like a twitch copypasta but it also seems honest and correct so 👍
Honestly that's some sigma behaviour right there
Normalize saying a player/character/play style is boring. Just because people say they would rather not have him in the finals is nothing against him but his play style. All smash games have tried to avoid time outs by putting extra rules in place and all those rules happened because people complained about a certain play style/character/player. Smash has tried avoiding time outs because its bad for viewership and bad for the game as a whole. So there is an inherit ill will towards those play styles. So the problem runs deeper than just "i dont like this person". The question is, do you value the growth of the game or about allowing a player the freedom to play anyway they want? IMO if HBox wanted to camp someone out in Melee by jumping all game or ledge grabbing then so be it. So I think the freedom of play style is more important. But that's just me.
In real life, real sports people will boo and cheer against defensive/boring plays. I think we have to accept that this is a fact.
Totally, as they should. Just watching and trying to have a good time, so they don’t like boring things. If someone doesn’t want to be booed then they shouldn’t play in a way to be booed. Can’t have the best of both worlds
E-sports are way more visually stimulating than live sports tho. If a team is stalling in, say, football, thats a whole group of a dozen guys playing defensively for an hour or more for an audience of millions.
If we’re assuming worst case scenario for a fighting game camper (average jiggly puff main in a Bo3 set to 8 minutes), managing to stall out the timer every match, then you’re seeing a little under 30 minutes. Admittedly, still not the greatest time, but nowhere near worth comparing to live sports. And thats not taking into consideration that very few campers actually see the clock run to zero, or even play all 3 matches.
Yeah defensive play sucks from an audience perspective, and multiple big fighting games have already tried combatting this by developing their mechanics around encouraging aggressive matches, but we can’t pretend like these players aren’t any less real than us, or that our words aren’t any less potent to them just on the grounds that “they don’t play the way i like them to”
Sonic is literally becoming the Hbox of smash ultimate, just wait till he becomes top 1
The worst things are that sonix as a player and sonic as a character only need time outs against like 3 characters out of 80 and literally only 2 players(dabuz and gluttony),yet every other scenario people will aggressively encourage time outs as long as it's their favorite player doing it even if it was sub-optimal.
Was playing smash just now and by playing the game, it made my switch screen go completely grey and now it’s stuck on there. What a game lmao
I don't know if this is accurate or not but it seems like you're a much more honest player now, much more aware of the spectacle that is the game and less concerned about winning vs having a good time and letting others do the same. And while you may not get so many big results in the majors, you're getting a solid fanbase that will sustain you long after you've stopped being competitive. You also let yourself grow on people and let your personality shine through outside of the game and I feel that Sonix is probably in the first steps of that.
I switched characters so many times in an attempt to please people and everyone kept finding reasons to not like my playstyle. Pit is flowcharty. Metaknight is mashy. Hero is luck. Plant is campy. Kirby is boring. Roy is high tier. I eventually just ended up sticking with Plant and Hero and it kind of horseshoed back into me being the “cornball guy” and it was kinda my identity.
People have different reasons to play and people have to realize that it’s a party game for children where Sephiroth can fight Jigglypuff and it’s not that deep.
Never please people and please yourself it's not their decision or them playing.
I usually get trashed because I play so many games with so many character people hate, I prefer specially low tier character when I do not even try.
Just look into Street Fighter 2 My main Vega aka Balrog in Japan spammy yes strong yes and scary or C&C Zero Hour as USA which hyper counter China which is hyper one sided when kiting. We can even fall lower with the hate when my friends ask me to play League a game I avoid but I only play Master Yi to tilt people who hate the character because of their super low knowledge how to play the game properly to fight back.
The Moral of the story is - You do you without being manipulated by the enemy who think you should do something else because they want to win and make you feel bad of yourself because of your playstyle which they can't handle.
Or just do a simple thing...... Play whatever you want. No one should tell you to change your character or change your playstyle because they don't like it, because FUN is the most important thing to feel in a video game

Since sports tends to be quite theatrical and is often watched by people who don't understand every single intricacy of the game their playing (a good bit of it maybe but like, they're not in the player's heads or anything), I believe that competition tends to fulfill something of an entertainment role as well as a competition one. Since Sonix' cat and mouse playstyle is very bias dependent (basically you're either someone rooting for him or rooting against him) it can be frustrating to see a game end on what's an anticlimax when the favourite isn't Sonix since rather than the game coming down to an intense kill or be killed situation, it's watching someone helplessly bob back and forth until they can get in on a frantic escaping animal. There's no "narrative payoff" to the fight, rather "Aight let's just stop now".
This probably sounds ridiculous and yeah on paper competition having a "narrative" is kinda fundamentally broken but in practice competition is as much spectacle and "hype" as it is about winning and though that's objectively unfair (like, seriously if you take out the people watching then the 1v1 is an intense set of interactions between people trying to get one over on each other, the standard of how a game functions), it's kinda like capitalism. We know it's not correct, but we adapt our lives to live around it.
even though i dont play competitive and i posted this idea before, i know melee has a ruling for camping and lack of approaching. if it's excessive, then warnings or a loss will be given to the person camping (im not sure about the exact ruling). why can't ultimate have a ruling like that? it forces both players to approach and the matches would be more engaging. random idea from me; if a player is throwing projectiles or running away while they have a lead for, let's say a minute and a half, then a warning would be given to that person and the game would be replayed. if it continues into the next game, the player with the warning would be given a loss for that match. if it happens again either in that set or later in the tournament, they would be disqualified. would this give characters a hard time to fight against? yes. little mac, heavies, glass cannons, and rush down characters are the first examples that come to mind. however, each architype and little mac has counterplay so it would be down to player adaptation. i think it would be healthy for the game in the long run. again, i dont play competitive, so if someone could say if it's a good idea, let me know

Its amazing how i said this exact same thing to you the first time you posted a Sonix/Sonic anooyed video like 2 years ago, and NOW you are realizing it.
first the Smash community targeted the Steve players, now Sonix? wtf
Maybe they should let sudden death actually go through, so the one camping not specifically wins each scenario, there will be more players abusing the camp with any character now, but yeah, it might be better.
Sonix is getting the melee hbox treatment
i’m a puff main in ultimate i can relate but i also know time outs are honestly horrible to watch, it feels like it was a cop out when someone wins by running away. i don’t think that’s sonix fault as a player that they allow that in the rules though, maybe lower time limits in comps for ultimate
Imo the people that hate on Sonix so much are the people that don't actually care about the competition itself, they just care about being entertained. I used to be pretty indifferent about Sonix, though watching him time opponents out definitely made me lean towards disliking his playstyle. That being said, as I saw more of his gameplay over the years, I began to have a healthy amount of respect for his supreme knowledge of Sonic and his game strategies/combo routes. Today, Sonix is legitimately one of my favorite players to watch, since he is such a consistent player even though it feels like I see a new Sonic combo every single set.
Winning is always worth it, play how you want.
What upsets me is that a lot of people who play sonic or Steve adopt a somewhat toxic persona (I’ve even noticed this with the bayos in smash 4), which is BECAUSE OF THE COMMUNITY. I don’t like sonic, so I click off the stream when he shows up; that’s fine. But to consistently harass someone because of whom they play? That’s just childish. At the end of the day, some people are competing for money so they’ll do what it takes to win.
Exactly! If characters or playstyles you don't like are really good, then you have two options: change the game through mods (ex. Project +), rules (wobbling ban, ledge limit), or character bans, OR play a different game.
People who harass others for how or who they play ruins a game and a community far more.
Love the background music 👌
How tf are people going to hate Sonics playstyle, he's literally a hit and run character that does chip damage. About as stupid as someone complaining that Olimar only throws pikmin to deal damage.
Up a stock? You know the vibes
The banter he has with Capitancito is top tier though
This reminds me of Smash's cardinal sin: the fox combo stuff which engrained in people's head being "good smash" and a hatred of anything not it, like campy styles. Sonix and Melee HBox may not do "good" (fun/hype) smash, they do effective smash.
Camping exists in other games; Justin Wong got flak in his street fighter days for being a camper (and copping an attitude), Guile is inclined to camp at a basic level (agressive Guiles are high level).
But Justin didn't get LTG's favorite 3 letters or have something thrown at him
3:06 KING reaction to the crowd
No one better to talk about this
Whoever hates Sonix as a player is a Robotnik
I don't play smash (I'm thinking about it but I'm still on the fence) but I think someone like Sonix 1. adds variety to the pro scene, making it feel like "oh maybe this isn't just a series where fox, jiggly puff, and anime swordspeople are the only playable characters" 2. adds variety in playstyles on display, showing it is viable to play differently in a tournament setting than pure aggression. and 3. I think he adds that kind of semi-heel energy that you so rarely see, he's not an absolute monster like Leffen but he's also not the ball of Energy who cheers at his victories loud enough to be heard in other countries like Hbox, he's just someone who's not going to change how he plays to please the crowd.
You got to be kidding me!! Sonix is great and undeserving of this treatment
HBox u could try to introduce the smash community to some wrasslin terms, Face or Babyface is a good guy and Heel is a "bad guy" just performing that to get the best crowd reaction, sometimes boos, but better than mild
He has expirience with Meele Puff.
Ultimate favours defense over offense, so you should absolutely #Play2Win
Personally I disagree with "separating the player and the character" - it is the player's choice to pick an unlikable character, and they do so with full knowledge that they will be less liked. I also disagree with the statement that "Sonix has to camp to win" - it is simply not true. Just look at every other player who wins without playing nearly as boring. It is a player's choice to adopt such a character and playstyle, and in turn accept the consequence of public perception.
Smash community loves vilifying people lately... Ganons for example.

Sonix is now in my top 5 players for this one
If we’re talking about Villains: Leffen
I can see Sonix trying to make sonic looks like an art these years.
Man the sonic heroes ost so good
