  • In the year 2000, the Metropolitan Museum in New York City was contacted about purchasing a curious mummy from a collector in Pakistan, who claimed the mummy was the remains of the daughter of the famed Persian Emperor, Xerxes I 'The Great'. However, later that year, the unearthing of this mysterious mummy would only further add to its mystery.

    It’s disgusting that as soon as they realized she wasn’t a dead princess, the majority of the world immediately stopped caring. They never bothered to actually close the case, and it took them years to actually properly bury her. She was clearly a murder victim, someone hit her with a vehicle or hit her with a blunt object in the lower back hard enough to incapacitate her, and then broke her neck to finish her off. It’s absurd basically nothing was done. She was killed in 96. It’s 2024 for cripes sake.

      Unfortunately, as with a lot of cold cases, there’s not much to go on. The mummification process would make the body extremely difficult to ID and DNA only helps if she was registered in a system that the investigators can access. They don’t know when or where she died or if she was murdered by the same people who mummified her- she could have been an unclaimed body taken from a morgue.

    A mummy is simply one of the things that you just can't fake. If it were possible, someone would have done it by now and would be extremely rich today either by selling or by demanding huge fees for studies. Faking antiquities is basically IMPOSSIBLE.

    • @inquisitive4
      @inquisitive4 Před 3 měsíci +3

      It's entirely possible that the whole museum exhibition industry for mummies is done this way. Most true mummies were eaten or made into paint a long time ago

    • @POLARTTYRTM

      @@inquisitive4 maybe, but if they stay closed away in an inaccessible place for research (as you say, exhibition only) we can't know, but if we put everything to scrutiny with actual research and tests everything falls apart. Faking antiquities is pretty much impossible.

      Experimental archeologists have figured out how to replicate Egyptian mummification! What you can't fake is aging... Carbon dating will show that a modern mummy is, well, modern.

    I guess I'm confused as to how removing the organs made it not Egyptian style. The Egyptians removed the organs and placed them in the canopic jars during mummification.
