I loved the film. The cast did an amazing job and it was a great adaptation of a really hard book to understand. Different interpretations of books is a good thing.
I’m a twenty-year-old mixed girl who adores period dramas and seeing Louisa on screen for the first time made me so happy. Seeing a Black girl being represented as a young and hopelessly romantic girl is so powerful. Thank you for breaking the stereotypes and crashing Bridgerton’s broken fantasy with the way they handled Marina’s characterization and harmful representation on screen in the first season. Louisia is allowed to be just as innocent as the other girls in that time period and it’s beautiful to see it. So thank you for this movie that happens to be unsurprisingly, written and directed by women who totally understand the importance of respectful representation of women. I’m sure it, out there, made a lot of girls happy. I’m currently reading the book by the way. Jane Austen actually included a Black heiress in her unfinished novel Sanditon! The 2019 adaptation of Sanditon has a dark-skinned Black actress playing a young heiress and this is so powerful to see it.
Respectful? They turned complex and interesting characters into basic bitches.

The clothings look great on Dakota Johnson. I actually think the clothings are good-looking but def. not period clothings LOL. The whole thing reeks 'Reign' --fashion-wise.
I really enjoyed the interpretation and the acting even if it deviated from Austen's book I still love the movie

I think each movie made “based” on the book is different from each other. I’ve seen four movies and one show from the 70’s so far and I really liked this version.
Someone travel back in time and show the movie to Jane Austen. It'd be interesting to see how she would react. Lol
I'm not a fan of regency era dramas but I did like the approach that they did in this movie. Hiring POC in the cast is amazing, staying away from stereotypical.

The movie is a hot mess.
In Persuasion, there's supposed to be Broken Hearts, Duty, Pragmatism, Frustration, Regret, Retaliation, Longing, Family Dysfunction, Hope, Vulnerability, and Risk Taking.
The characters are supposed to grow.
The activities are supposed to make logical sense.
Oh and if it's a dumpster fire, at least make it lushly gorgeous to look at (fail: the palatte is muddy and the clothes are Boring).
The only salvageable parts were the attempts at colorblind casting, and the actor who played Louisa. And okay I like Henry Golding too.

Yeah, I agree with you. I love her as an actress. But it was not a good adaptation. And Anne's costumes didn't do it for me, either. I liked Elizabeth's and Mrs. Russell's more. It was jarring to see her in deep jewel tone satin dress in that concert scene.

Dakota Johnson is not a good actress and this movie proved it again. She has no chemistry with her lead role actors, ever. Just watch 50 shades of grey.
