    05:48 An early form of _Beatboxing_ perhaps. Gosh I hope that the model train set up has survived from 1975, it's amazing.

    Victor Martin was also interviewed by the late Dave Allen in the wonderful documentary "Dave Allen in Search of the Great English Eccentric".

    I'm sure that clergyman once appeared on The Generation Game with Brucie. He had to demonstrate various railway sounds and the contestants had to copy them. Someone back me up on this.

    Brilliant stuff. As a person who grew up as a devoted train fan, I can relate to this. I think growing up in Dorking Surrey, near London, meant there was a wealth of different trains to be interested in. And we didn’t have a car so it was all about buses or trains getting anywhere.
    I finally got over it in my late 30s and started to openly enjoy trains again 😂 but living in Belfast there isn’t a huge amount of heritage railways, and the trains, are all the same. From Derry to Newry. And there aren’t any railways west of Lough Neagh.
    That model set is dreamy.

      Told from the mice's point-of-view, this would make a great Aardman-style animated kids film; 'The Great Model Railway Heist'!

      Instead of making people duck for cover by imitating the sound of a cops v robbers shoot-out,he can make them take evasive action because they think a steam locomotive's coming.

  • @TinLeadHammer
    @TinLeadHammer Před 9 měsíci +4

    Those old people wanting to remain young is ironic, because nowadays most people who care about steam locomotives, model trains or model anything, are old people. A recent James May's video about Airfix show mostly old people interested in modeling and hand glueing.

      There is a lot of truth in what you say. Over the past 10 to 15 years models rail companies like Hornby and Bachmann have greatly improved the quality of their products to appeal to adult collectors as they buy the majority of them. For example on the 2970s and 80s Hornby products especially their modern diesals did look quite toy like. Now they are very detailed and are of far higher quality because of doneone is going to pay in excess of £200 for a loco they demand rightly a high level of quality.
