The distant screams, groans and moans made the atmosphere. Will never forget the nights spent huddling up into a sleeping bag in the attic of a collapsed building so no mutant would find me, chewing on a piece of bread and downing a swig of vodka, staring out into the darkness as some twisted, sickening scream bellows out over the trees and through a valley. Who was that poor schmuck? What brought him here to meet such a dark and hopeless end? Or rather, WHAT was that? Was it even human? Should I sleep with my feet towards that ladder and keep an empty can on a string above it if something tries to climb up? This game shined because it left so much to the imagination. I can't imagine how loners can handle being alone in such a world. I'd not go anywhere unless I had a good few dudes by my side. Pinnacle of atmosphere and worldbuilding in gaming, truly.
What you described defined the game for me. There were not many scary scenes, but the constant feeling of dread was something else. Stalker did not need a cliche jumpscares etc. because it had setting that kept you at the edge of chair almost all the time. In world full of monsters and anomalies, even other human could be your enemy.
Always love hearing those gunshots + screams sounds. Especially the one at 9:00, sounds like someone getting startled suddenly by a mutant and opening fire madly with a handgun.
Same I began reading it today and as the professor was talking about reports eating old people and children this sound appeared. It fit perfectly... 1:26
The animalistic noises can already be heard from the evenings on lol, especially during mating seasons. Deers especially make creepy fucking noises sometimes
You need to take a really big bluetooth speaker turned on max volume and put it in the woods near a small village and then start to play this sound so everyone in the village shits theirs pants.
