GT7 is classic modern GT. It's a much better game now than when it launched, but it's a terrible way to treat fans etc. My 2022 highlight was the GT live events, the racing was mad and the whole events really felt special. I bet we're still waiting waiting for iRacing rain in Jan 24.

I’m pretty new to the scene and for me the affordable DD options that dropped in 2022 really were the big headline for me. This just seems completely asinine. Clamouring for new titles every year just leads to mediocrity, which you allude to yourself in this video then completely disregard. Forza taking longer is a good thing but I don't see what relevance that will have to sim racing. ACC, iRacing and AMS2 (perhaps more not on my radar) have had stellar upgrades this year, with excellent additions and improvements and the community side of sim racing, whether modding or online organised competition is going from strength to strength.
In sim racing and all entertainment software we are continually subjected to an unending slew of titles full of only compromise and omission, a year of consolidation and improvement has been a god send and summations of the tone delivered here are exactly why it will ultimately be ruined.
The hardware scene is finally becoming a competitive environment and allowing access to fantastic gear at different levels of entry.
So much of this is genuinely positive for the long term health of the genre, and it's very shortsighted to try and paint otherwise.

It's impossible to make a sim like this in one year. As a racing game fan, my most played games in 2022 were American Truck Simulator, Assetto Corsa, Forza Horizon 5, and two non-racing games that rounded out my top five on my Steam Recap. That reflects the holding pattern we were in during 2022. I also played non-Steam racing games like NFS Heat and Payback, since I bought them dirt cheap years after launch. The main thing that kept me playing these titles (barring FH5) was mods. But as far as sims & simcade new releases went, GT7 aside, it was pretty desolate. I even went back and played the now de-listed Project Cars 1 & 2, that also had new life brought to them due to, you guessed it, the stockpile of mods available over the years. Here's hoping 2023, sees some truly noteworthy releases in the genre.

As being a 13-year veteran of iRacing I know one thing with them, something like rain does not get released until all of the variables are settled. It took years before dirt racing was introduced to iRacing. Why? Simple, they worked on all of the variables in a dirt track race. How much water was in the track after five laps and how much was there after 50 laps. The same thing is being done with water on the track. Give them time, they will come through.

Finally got my hands on a PS5 a few months back and started playing GT Sport after picking it up on sale for $10 (yes!) and waited for Xmas for GT7-what a disappointment it has been! By the way, I’m not playing online, just single player and play with a controller. GT7 has NO career mode, the cars you want to buy and race are never a available, or if they are, they’re waaaay too expensive (microtransaction anyone?) and almost impossible to acquire. At best, it is a 60% complete game. Hoping Forza Motorsports 8 comes out soon and is not a flop like GT7-hopefully picking up a series x wont be a problem later this year-might end up selling the PS5.

By the way, they could do expansion packs like ACC does to add a career section, or additional groups of cars that are badly needed. Pleasantly surprised to hear OT taking a critical stance like this for which I agree wholeheartedly. I am so not having any fun with any video games as of late, and this certainly includes sim racing titles. It's a tremendous disappointment. There's just no innovation going on. it's like we're just rehashing the same assets using the same graphics engines. GPU innovation makes it seem like game/sim titles are improving/innovating, when in fact at the software level, nothing new is being done. Devs are taking short cuts and lying to us about their "innovation". We need a rebel developer who Loves racing, to take a stand on principle, putting the status quo profit and development models aside, taking a financial hit/risk, and doing something different. Rennsport promised this, but their alpha was a joke - it was the same old rehashed crap.
