One less bell to answer
One less egg to fry
One less man to pick up after
I should be happy
But all I do is cry

This Song Right Here Is A "MASTERPIECE"!!! My Husband Passed Away in 2015 After 41 Years of Marriage & Everytime I Hear This Song I Think About All The Things I Once Did For Him I'll Never Do Again. RIP🌹😇🌹 Mr. Patrick Bond. You Were Loved & Will Never Be Forgotten 😢
Couldn't ask for a better song to remember him by. Sorry for your loss!
@@barneshomestead1240 Thank You.
My Deepest Heartfelt Condolences for the loss of Your Husband 😔🙏🏾
Thank You.
@@vernabond4124 Anytime 🙏🏾🙏🏾
Nobody ever talks about Marilyn McCoo. She had a voice for a generation.
McGoo had a four-octave voice. The only one I know that could match her was Freddie Mercury
@@winthebaldrige8098 Absolutely ... Criminally Under-Rated!
Marilyn McCoo and Karen Carpenter. Greatest voices. I sure grew up in a perfect point in time.
I agree
Music-wise? Yes it was a perfect time. Everything else, not so much.
Marilyn McCoo - one of the greatest (and most underrated) vocalists of her generation!
Very underrated...they practiced singing back then and it showed...I really don't like to bash the young lady singers of today. But the industry just wants another pretty face out there and they rush to get their music out to the public...particularly the R&B Girls we have today but not just them, but most of the music today...but after about 2010 the R&B music is just going through the motions. But jmo
Wow.. beautiful, powerful, haunting, and so sad. Between McCoo's voice and Bacharach's music, this is truly a masterpiece
Lutely of abso!
Haunting and sublime. I remember this song very, very well.
Yes! Indeed. Every Lyric She's Singing In This Song Reaches From The Depths Of Her Heart & Soul. I Will Always Love This Song. When My Husband Passed Away in 2015 After 41 Years Of Marriage I Asked That Same Question Why Did He Go?.
I believe you will be together again, my condolences@@vernabond4124
Very clever!@@jusjellus
Groups like The Fifth Dimension come along once in a lifetime with that unique sound, and that's very special!
You're Most Definitely Correct On That!! ONLY ONCE In A LIFETIME. I Thank God I Was Blessed To Have Witnessed & Jammed To The 70's MASTERPIECE OF MUSIC & ARTIST.
Speak on it
Yes , like Earth Wind and Fire too. Boomer music .
Marilyn McCoo and Karen Carpenter are two of the most underrated singers of all time.
agreed
Add K.D. Lang to that list.
They are iconic so I would hardly call them underrated 🤷🏻♂️
Except that neither of them were underrated and both are still regarded world wide as two of the best ever - not really "underrated"
Are you kidding? Karen Carpenter especially is acknowledged as maybe the top female pop singer in history.
Who did not fall in love with Marilyn McCoo hearing this song?
Only people that care about Only their genre of music and could care less about any other genre of music
I Was 13 Years Old When I First Heard This Song. My Older Sister Bought It on A 45 Record. Fell In Love With It Instantly!! Still Listens To It & Cries In 2024. I Can Relate To It. I Lost My Husband of 41 Years To Cancer In 2015.😢
R.I.P. Burt Bacharach 🙏🏾. You were simply a song writing genius❤️. I listened to this song over, and over and over again as a preteen; way before my first broken heart. A song for the ages. God bless you 🥲
I didn't know Burt passed. My goodness.
Every time I look around one the greats are gone. Since 2020 they've been going.
But was a great songwriter and possible more
As I am adding it to my playlist I’m remembering how young I was and wondering how weird that was.. 🫠then saw your post! I was 10 when it came out and I absolutely loved it.
This is a masterpiece by an unforgettable group. Oh how it brings back my late teenage days. Steve Thompson
I did not know this was Burt/Hal! God what a combo! Marilyn/Florence & Burt/Hal
Jesus I feel old
Ohhh he also made this song?? No wonder I love it so much. He was a genius
Marilyn McCoo's voice is extraordinary! Reminds me of rich velvet. Truly one of the greatest singers of the 20th Century.
Truth!
RICH, luscious velvet!
@@suchaneffnlady
I'll take your RICH, luscious velvet over the rich, Corinthian leather Ricardo Montalbán boasted about when advertising the Chrysler Cordoba of the 1970s. LOL!!! 😂
When I was in my teens, a friend and I had the pleasure to meet Ms. McCoo and Mr. Davis after a concert and Ms. McCoo graciously invited us to be their guest at the following night's performance. At intermission, they sent over refreshments to my friend and I. They were so gracious and I'll never forget how their kindness made me feel. Great talent and even greater kind people!
Doubt that any singer or band nowadays would do the same thing. Unfortunate tho.
That is such a beautiful story for your memories.
Wow !
I love that. They made a memory for you for life...
I’m so glad you shared this…and experienced it!
Another masterpiece by Burt Bacharach, sung brilliantly by Marilyn McCoo
Surprised that Dionne Warwick didn’t get this song from Burt Bacharach as she was his singer for so many of his songs. Even Barbara Streisand sang “ One less bell to answered“ I didn’t like it at all.
Let’s not forget Hal David wrote these lyrics
Marilyn McCoo has such a soaring voice! The most under rated pop singer of all time! Just amazing!
DEFENITELY!!!
I agree 👍
And a beautiful lady elegant in this performance
I think everyone here will echo that same statement
I Love ❤️ this song. I remember my mother bought me the 45 as a little girl.
My sister has this exact album
Brings back memories
Burt Bacharach and 5th Dimension a perfect marriage in this great song
I still cry every time I hear this.in 1967 we had only been married for two years and my husband was having an affair.
😢😢😢😢
😪
Her voice was absolutely majestic
"One Less Bell to Answer" is a song written by Burt Bacharach and Hal David. Originally written in 1967 for Keely Smith, the song was rediscovered in late 1969 by Bones Howe, the producer for the 5th Dimension.
This group and their arrangements were so good that you forgot who wrote the song. OK, Burt Bacharach / Hal David. Marilyn McCoo, one of the greatest voices of all time.
Do not forget producer Bones Howe.
It's amazing this song is half a century old and it's still to this day sounds absolutely amazing
At 70 years young - I adore the music of the 60's and 70's - will never be a time like it again. My Spotify lists are overflowing with memories both happy and sad - This absolute treasure sends me 🎆🌠💕🎶 Thank you Marilyn and The Fifth Dimension 👏❤
Such a great song! No four letter words or special gimmicks. Just pure talent, from the songwriting to the singing. A song like this is forever.
Damn 50 years later and this song and the voice of Marilyn M still brings a tear to my eyes. So damn sad
Never be wrong in expressing that kind of feeling which I'm feeling the same (at 70). The voice and the music are going so deep into the heart and soul of one. Thanks
This has to be the BEST song from this group: The 5th Dimension.
Wedding Bell Blues
@@markberryhill2715 That's got to be one of the WORST songs by The 5th Dimension. 👎
RIP Burt Bacharach. Great musicianship vocal and singing by Marilyn and the band .
Wherever Burt is; i hope he’s restin at ease!
He is right here, his music will go on @@morrisparrish76
Marilyn McCoo's voice just gets into your soul on this song. Her voice is magnificent! Burt Bacharach wrote, and produced, some of the most beautiful contemporary music. May he rest in peace.
Bought the 45 in 1970, and played it so much it turned grey! Beautiful song, by a great singer! I'm now 69, and this is still a great song! Cmon kids, wake up and LISTEN to your music, not just play it!
Played this at my dad’s roller rink until it turned grey also. Great song for a Moonlight dance.
RIP Burt Bacharach…what a beautiful song 💕✅
One less EGG to FRY and all I do is CRY!! 😢😢😢
Another masterpiece by Bacharach and David. And given to to be sung by the voice of an Angel.
Marilyn McCoo's voice is smooth and beautiful.
When music was REAL!
My 27 year old son is moving out. Lol. I thought of this song. Blessing for the best. At 75 I want a few years alone.
Ele será feliz. Acredite!!!❤
You deserve your last years in peace✌️, chillin' the way you like to and having your own space🚀. Congratulations👏!!!
Let's see, I was the last one to move out but, my parents still kept calling me. Apparently they were bored not having us around.
you had a kid at 48? god bless!
One less musical great among us now. Thank you Burt Bacharach. And thank you Marilyn McCoo for your beautiful vocal interpretation of one of his many gems.
No disrespect to your comment but
It was never Marilyn McCoo and The Fifth Dimension or The Fifth Dimension featuring Marilyn McCoo. Even though Marilyn McCoo sang lead vocalist on just about all their songs. And yes she had that right kind of voice.
I read somewhere that the 5th Dimension's "One Less Bell to Answer," after being an album track on the "Portrait" album for several months, became an unexpected hit after it was featured on an episode of the old TV show "It Takes a Thief" (starring Robert Wagner).
I discovered The Fifth Dimension on It Takes a Thief . Loved them ever since. I think I have certainly most if not all their albums. Unfairly labelled Middle of the Road or Easy Listening basically as a put down! I’ll take them anytime. Such class !
I followed this link from Burt Bachrach's obituary in the NYT and THIS is making me cry, it's so beautiful
Released 1970,I’m 68 now,Great Song,Amazing isn’t it ?…..❤️
This was a time when people put there heart and souls into there music 🎶. I love her voice ❤️
I love this song. Marilyn is awesome.
The 5th Dimension crushed this classic. Let’s not for Burt Bacharach for writing this treasure.
......and Hal David
It is ironic to me that the marriage of my Mom and my stepfather, which was failing, ended not long after this song was played on the radio. It was a low point in Mom's life...but she bounced back and flourished. 😊
@@rollinmark8952 Those two gentlemen defined the pop music of the 60's and 70's.
@@barneshomestead1240 Yeah u rite! I get goosebumps whenever I hear a Bacharach/David tune. Especially with the likes of Dionne Warwick and Marilyn McCoo's voices.
This song is a timeless classic that has such an elegant flow and is so mesmerizing. And Marilyn McCoo sounds so amazing . Long ago when I was a kid my mom told me this was one of her favorite songs. Decades later she passed away . And everytime I hear them sing those words : 🎶 Onnnnnne less bell to annnnnswer. 🎶 towards the end of the song with a haunting , mello flow , i think of her and now i have one less bell to answer . From her calling me on the phone to her being at my door. She was a wonderful woman that was always there for me.
I miss her sooooo much😇❤.
Marilyn has the greatest voice EVER!
I can remember the 1970 release of this classic song. The enchanting, beauty of Marilyn, and Florence, certain enhanced the effectiveness. The precision and dynamic performances of the entire group is eternal.
Love Marilyn's vocals on this song. Also she was then and still is F-I-N-E
One of the great vocals of all time.
I remember my mother playing this, I was six years old. Miss you mom, RIP♥️🙏♥️🙏
I'm so glad I was born when these AWESOME song writers, singers and bands made the most beautiful music in world.
Bob Alcivar, Bill Holman and Bones Howe …
These 3 put together one of my favorite songs.
Their 1970 arrangement of the Bacharach / David song for the 5th Dimension brings me into complete ecstasy. Put on head phones and listen to those harmonies and strings….. angelic perfection
Although I didn't understand a lot at the time...looking back they brought joy to my childhood & like a fine wine it just gets better with time. It's a shame...you don't realize what a good thing you had going on when you first heard this.
Why just Bill Holman? What about Bud Shank and Jim Horn?
When you mentioned Bill, I thought you meant he had something to do with the arranging (Buddy Rich, Stan Kenton, etc.) or conducting the orchestra. I just see him as one of the many musicians.
What a gorgeous song, voice and harmony! I love the way Marilyn sings "I end each day" emphasis on day. Beautiful.
Thank you Burt “One Less Bell to Answer”.
Absolutely haunts me ever since I first heard it, a true classic, thanx Burt !!!
I stumbled on their Soul Train performance of this Burt Bucharach classic. McCoo's rich & heartfelt vocals is haunting
The layering of their voices was unique & I haven't heard Florence's group yet...but I can't imagine them duplicating the original five.
Sounds from growing up! On the radio on top of the fridge or the AM (FM yet?) in the car ; )
I remember hearing this song on the low fidelity PA system at our local pool when I was 16. I had no understanding of the meaning of the song, but loved the harmony and lyrics. Since then, I have become a big fan of Ms McCoo who I feel is one most underrated d singers of the era. There is no one around who can touch her talent and artistry now.
What a beautiful song. Remember them as a child. Love them. Marilyn MaCoo's voice love it.
One of The Most Beautiful Heartbreak Songs Ever Produced ❤️❤️❤️
This the BEST version of this song!
Marilyn McCoo… Lovely and astounding voice PV in a class all of her owb😊
Much respect Burt Bacharach
Burt Bacharach died February 2023 RIP.

Marylin had a beautiful voice at that time, And her rhythm and timing were fantastic.👍

One of the most hauntingly beautiful yet depressing songs, I've ever heard and all in 3:32 minutes. . Thanks for posting
Timeless Classic... was going in the Service when this first hit... loved Marilyn McCoo ever since
Marilyn McCoo's voice is simply beautiful. How sweet it always sounded.
Wonderful super group. Brilliant song 🎵
Might be the best song I’ve heard of this genre tbh
Best feel good break up song
I remember this song. I was 8 years old and listened to this on a 45 LP. I played it over and over.. I didn't understand the lyrics then, but I could feel the emotions coming from the performance. It still has the same effect not as it did then.
I love this song!!!
Pure class ! Plain and simple...
I love this song so much
Feeling it 💔
Such an awesome song 🎉😊
Yes she can sing. But she is also gorgeous ❤
Great as this 1:04 song is , nothing beats the French horn in the beginning, what a haunting sound. One of the most beautiful songs ever written , in the history of the world.
Her voice is angelic
Good song a true classic will never hear music like this again
My oh my some people just don't know what a great tune to hear and appreciate and it sounds so good to listen to this jam when we were so young and in love and the song made us soooo happy when it was played and I'll never forget it
A beautiful voice and a beautiful classic song that will continue to live on the years.
So true
I remember seeing the Fifth Dimension on the Flip Wilson show.
Me too and I also remember seeing Geraldine Jones on the Flip Wilson.
Dang this song hits the heart good! I never get tired of listening to it ❤️👍🏻
