My favorite thing about this is Betty had a glow up but she was still herself. Her outfits were still bright and unique but they were more fashionable. She still wore glasses instead of contacts but they suited her face more. She didn’t go through the typical ‘ugly girl turns hot’ makeover. She was still the Betty we know and love but in heels lol
Just rewatched the show after many, many years and yes, the change was very subtle and gradual. I feel like the showrunners did this on purpose to counter that Hollywood drastic makeover trope. Her transformation was like a butterfly slowly emerging from its cocoon. Like Betty said, "just small changes." She wore heels through most of the series, though.
1 thing i realised when rewatching this show is that Betty actually a fashion icon, it just wasnt her time😂 like bright colours, sock on heels,bold patterns, mix and match, its literally what fashion looks like now

To me this ending was not satisfying for a series finale. I would've been satisfied with it if it was just a season finale and the show wasn't ending but this wasn't the case. The writers could've done so much better with Daniel and Betty's relationship in season 4 !
I agree, this was a perfect ending considering they had an abrupt cancellation and had to tie things up quickly. We should experience the romance if the show ever gets a revival or a movie.
@@vbrandy7088 I blame the execs at ABC. They might claim to be for the little guy/girl, but they always reject the relationships of the fat/ugly girl with the hot guy. They did this with Morgan and Penelope in Criminal Minds as well. But this was over 10 years ago, maybe ABC can give us a movie where Daniel and Betty are celebrating their tenth wedding anniversary and maybe one of their kids is looking into getting into acting or something.
Just like the end of the first episode, Daniel is watching Betty walk away and smiling. In the first episode, it's because he's started to see beyond the "ugly" surface and admire her for who she is. And now, he's watching her similarly, except now he has feelings for her and truly finds her beautiful. I really love how the very last part of the show was having the word UGLY fade away. You know what, I think Betty herself was always in love with Daniel but never had the confidence to come to terms with it. She was always putting him number one, even when she didn't have to anymore. Please ABC, give us a two hour movie of them getting married. We deserve that at least!
Nah, it was the other way around - Daniel fell in love with her somewhere back in Season 1, but he still had a lot of growing up to do and needed to grow into it. Betty always cared about Daniel, but I don't think she felt too romantic about him until she realized she had to leave to pursue her dreams, and knew how much she would miss him.
The both started at Mode together and both grew so much together. I would have loved one more season to see their relationship blossom and see them both starting fresh in London!!!
I also find it interesting that both Betty and Daniel had very similar romantic interests up to their eventual pairing. Daniel was the player playing Amanda while Betty was dating the player who wanted her. They both were trying to keep relationships going that were doomed to fail (Betty with Henry moving to Tucson and Daniel with Molly who would eventually pass away from her cancer).
That’s different, he was still thinking about Molly when he was drugged by that group. We want a true kiss between Daniel and Betty with true feelings given to each other. They are made for each other! 💯
I say this is the perfect television series ending, from the writing to how it's shot and the title at the end changing and perfect music too. I know everyone wanted to see them kiss or something but that would have been predictable and cliche, Betty didn't work her way to success to gain approval from a man. She was bold strong and independent throughout the series, she had relationship but she didn't need them make her feel better about herself. Also to make it open ended instead of spoon feeding it is just icing on the cake. You can come to your own conclusions.
You can be a bold, strong and independent woman AND have a man by your side who loves you! It s suck that people think that we can't have it all... you can be fulfilled both professionally AND romantically. The writers only fulfilled Betty's career and forgot to fulfill her love life which is regretable to me.

The ending also puts Betty in the power position in all conceivable ways. She worked her way up to the life she had always dreamed about, and she made difficult choices to attain that. She knew from episode one that she wanted to create a magazine of the type that affected her life deeply, and she chose in the end to co-create a magazine for less money than she could have had at an established and 'successful' fashion magazine. She loved Henry deeply and choose her career over him. She loved her family most of all and still chose her career, which required leaving them to go to London. Daniel earlier in the series realized that he was talented as a fashion magazine EIC and that he had a passion for the job. It gave his life meaning. In the end, he sacrificed that to become jobless and to follow Betty. He gave up all of his power just to keep her in his life, and Betty was not willing to make such a compromise for anyone. The ending doesn't have to be romantic but it could be. It's up to Betty, not up to Daniel. He moved to London to be near her. He lookd at her with deep admiration, which is professional and also personal, and he clearly realized he is in love with her. He is 'all in' on Betty. She has completely shed the 'ugly' label that Kimmie from high school etched into her self-identity, and ultimately the series was about her shedding that idea and the self-doubts that came with it, and about self-empowerment. It's bittersweet that she made so many sacrifices along the way.
this show was terrific, light hearted but with some wonderfully deep meaningful moments... I despair that so many people blindly watch trashy television while shows like this don't attract the big numbers 😞
I wish they had built up their relationship and the hints to Daniel falling in love with her even more in s4 rather than cramming them into the last few episodes, but that said...it's very clear Daniel developed feelings for her and traveled across a whole ocean just to be with her...so anyone who still sees this as just a friendship is crazy. Wish we had seen more from Betty in the relationship/feelings dept but I do think it was the best the writers could do with the time they had. Where it stands it wouldn't have made sense for them to just randomly start kissing or something...it was a more gradual build up ...still in the process of happening. I think that's why it still feels like a cheat. Wish we could have gotten more. But we can imagine what happens next...

I loved this show so much I cried over this episode. I like how they removed the ‘ugly’ from the title and left it with just ‘betty’ because she’s not ugly anymore lol. I’m also gunna miss Wilhelmina, even tho she was the villain most of the time she was hilarious. Amanda was also really funny.

I am rewatching the series right now on Hulu and I can't believe how perfect nearly every episode is, and I'm into the third season. The balance of campy comedy and heavy heartfelt emotion is incredible, something really unique. I can't think of another series that alternated laughs and tearjerker moments so reliably. I mainly remembered Vanessa Williams and Michael Urie as the standouts before rewatching, and for good reason, but Becki Newton is HILARIOUS with every single facial movement, Ana Ortiz is both funny and heartbreaking throughout the series, and I always took America Ferrera for granted (how ironic!) in the role and her performance really is remarkable, full of pathos and pluckiness. It's impossible not to fall in love with Betty no matter how silly her styling is.
they should have gotten a fifth season to wrap things up, and let us see these two together together! could have been fun seeing how things happened, who says the L word first, the first kiss over london bridge, a first date on the eye of london followed by an intimate dinner at one of the great restaurants around the theatre section in the west end!, maybe betty confused about her deepening feelings for daniel talking with her sister, them going public, maybe alex could hop over from paris
No man drops their entire life to follow a woman to another country just to keep a friendship. That’s just not how men are programmed. When they’re in love and want someone, they go after them. Daniel knew Betty was his true love and soulmate and couldn’t imagine his life without her❤️
I was happy to see Betty succeed professionally and follow her dreams but damn people wanted to see the romance between her and Daniel too! Lol I will always be salty that we never got to see it! The writers could've done so much better with their relationship after her breakup with Matt... This scene didn't feel like a series finale, it left us wanting to see more. Knowing that it was their last season the writers could've gave us so much more with these two.
I just rewatched the whole series again and firmly believe that there should be a tv/special streamed. Especially now with everyone rewatching America post-Barbie. The series ended perfectly, so of course it doesn't need a special or movie. I love the show for what it is how it is. But even Urie (Mark) said that he would be interested in a reboot project. Now that it's been 13 years, there is enough time that has gone by for material for a tv special/movie/mini streaming series to see where Betty is now - if she's still in London, if after all these years she's come back to Queens/Manhattan to finally begin her own magazine. Maybe Wilhelmina after being a powerhouse all these years is offered the ability to retire and finally run away with Connor (with him being released), with a new storyline of determining who should be the new EIC of Mode. Amanda working as a stylist for D-list celebrities but trying to climb up. Justin now working as Mark's assistant. Seeing if Betty and Daniel work out... or now that the timing might be better, if Henry comes back into the picture, since his kid is a (rebellious) teen. Maybe even Hilda and Bobby renewing their vows - with someone getting engaged at the event this time around. Lol this turned into a whole pitch; I also work as a writer and saw a lot of myself in Betty and think about what she would do.
I’ll always have hope that one day will get a movie just to see these two together again! 🥺❤️😔 I remember how excited but heartbroken this ending was it felt good but also like wait no that can’t be it for these two!! 💔
Seeing this and going back to the first episode is a trip. This is the best most natural character development I’ve ever seen. I wouldn’t mind either way if they stayed platonic or dated they have amazing on screen chemistry

I just watched this all over again and it never gets old. I think Daniel and Betty had their date, he applied for the assistant job. "Now - Daniel. Meade, is it?" "Yes. Meade." He grinned as Betty interviewed him for the position of her assistant. "I see. It says here that you used to work for Mode, why the sudden change?" He secretly smiled at her. "Well, I would need to say I want to achieve something on my own merits. Not just my family's. If I may - will this job be long hours, late nights?" He hinted. Betty looked at him like he was crazy. Her colleague was right next to her, albeit eyeing Daniel with her own interest. "That's not in the job description. If anything,..." Her colleague walked out the door, being signaled by a messenger. "I will not be mixing business with pleasure." She hissed before Lindsey walked back over. "I see. This is not the job for me. Is there any other positions available?" His eyes twinkled. Lindsey took him by the arm and escorted him out. I followed tucking the paperwork away, where did they go? "He's in Javier's office." Lindsey mentioned as she returned. "I can't believe it." I huffed and stalked to his office. "Javier, Lindsey mentioned my interviewee..." "You mean my new assistant. Daniel has the job." He smiled at them both. "This means we will be seeing a lot more of each other..." Betty smiled back. Hope everyone likes - got carried away writing.
I really like this open ending hinting at a romantic relationship between Betty & Daniel. He's obviously fallen in love w/ her. And Betty seems interested too- curious at the least. And bc they've both gone thru so much 2gether & their friendship is so strong, even if after that first dinner date(s) they realize they're better off as friends, I can see them actually staying friends! Even working together bc they do make a good team like Daniel said. I also wouldn't be mad if they did end up becoming a couple & marrying! That wouldn't surprise me since it would be in harmony w/ the ending of the original (Yo Soy Betty, La Fea ) and the other versions. Either way, I'd love to see a revival mini series! The original YSBLF is getting one. Why not Ugly Betty!?
The fact that it ended on a cliffhanger was a bit annoying. They should have had a fifth season to see how things were going with Daniel and Betty. Also Austin and Justin!
They probably tried to show that the yellow coat lady walked back and forth a long path until she found her other half at the end. Just like Daniel and Betty. 😀

I’m hoping the producers will bring back a great ending because this one sucks. After the ups and downs the two went through with each other there should be a better ending for the two. The viewers shouldn’t be left guessing what happens after Daniel follows Betty to London.

Since prime video is continuing the original Betty La Fea this July 19 I have hope that someday they will continue the story on Ugly Betty in a whole new way to see where all the characters are at now cause I know Ameica said recently she would to revisit the character again.
Hey :) Well, this story was very different from the original Colombian 'telenovela'. This one had a few different characters added into the storyline and the ending is completely different. In the 'telenovela', the male lead falls head over heels in love with Betty. It's kind of a criticism to society's crazy beauty standards. By making the hot male lead fall in love with the "ugly girl", the telenovela mocks the crazy standards of beauty. Sorry for the long reply, lol. Hope this helps!

The way he looks at her at the end says he knows he found the one and she accepted the dinner invitation so things may go well for them. I think they ended up together. 😄
When Claire basically told Betty about his feelings, Betty didn’t look uninterested. It was more surprise since Daniel hadn’t seen her that way before. And then look at her reaction when he asked out to dinner. She was very happy and she already had the information Claire told her in the back of her head. This showed that she was open to being romantically involved with Daniel. He had to be the one who made the first move though and everything suggests he was going to romance her in London and not let her go.

I am rewatching the series right now on Hulu and I can't believe how perfect nearly every episode is, and I'm into the third season. The balance of campy comedy and heavy heartfelt emotion is incredible, something really unique. I can't think of another series that alternated laughs and tearjerker moments so reliably. I mainly remembered Vanessa Williams and Michael Urie as the standouts before rewatching, and for good reason, but Becki Newton is HILARIOUS with every single facial movement, Ana Ortiz is both funny and heartbreaking throughout the series, and I always took America Ferrera for granted (how ironic!) in the role and her performance really is remarkable, full of pathos and pluckiness. It's impossible not to fall in love with Betty no matter how silly her styling is.

they should have gotten a fifth season to wrap things up, and let us see these two together together! could have been fun seeing how things happened, who says the L word first, the first kiss over london bridge, a first date on the eye of london followed by an intimate dinner at one of the great restaurants around the theatre section in the west end!, maybe betty confused about her deepening feelings for daniel talking with her sister, them going public, maybe alex could hop over from paris
No man drops their entire life to follow a woman to another country just to keep a friendship. That’s just not how men are programmed. When they’re in love and want someone, they go after them. Daniel knew Betty was his true love and soulmate and couldn’t imagine his life without her❤️

I was happy to see Betty succeed professionally and follow her dreams but damn people wanted to see the romance between her and Daniel too! Lol I will always be salty that we never got to see it! The writers could've done so much better with their relationship after her breakup with Matt... This scene didn't feel like a series finale, it left us wanting to see more. Knowing that it was their last season the writers could've gave us so much more with these two.
I just rewatched the whole series again and firmly believe that there should be a tv/special streamed. Especially now with everyone rewatching America post-Barbie. The series ended perfectly, so of course it doesn't need a special or movie. I love the show for what it is how it is. But even Urie (Mark) said that he would be interested in a reboot project. Now that it's been 13 years, there is enough time that has gone by for material for a tv special/movie/mini streaming series to see where Betty is now - if she's still in London, if after all these years she's come back to Queens/Manhattan to finally begin her own magazine. Maybe Wilhelmina after being a powerhouse all these years is offered the ability to retire and finally run away with Connor (with him being released), with a new storyline of determining who should be the new EIC of Mode. Amanda working as a stylist for D-list celebrities but trying to climb up. Justin now working as Mark's assistant. Seeing if Betty and Daniel work out... or now that the timing might be better, if Henry comes back into the picture, since his kid is a (rebellious) teen. Maybe even Hilda and Bobby renewing their vows - with someone getting engaged at the event this time around. Lol this turned into a whole pitch; I also work as a writer and saw a lot of myself in Betty and think about what she would do.

Seeing this and going back to the first episode is a trip. This is the best most natural character development I’ve ever seen. I wouldn’t mind either way if they stayed platonic or dated they have amazing on screen chemistry

I just watched this all over again and it never gets old. I think Daniel and Betty had their date, he applied for the assistant job. "Now - Daniel. Meade, is it?" "Yes. Meade." He grinned as Betty interviewed him for the position of her assistant. "I see. It says here that you used to work for Mode, why the sudden change?" He secretly smiled at her. "Well, I would need to say I want to achieve something on my own merits. Not just my family's. If I may - will this job be long hours, late nights?" He hinted. Betty looked at him like he was crazy. Her colleague was right next to her, albeit eyeing Daniel with her own interest. "That's not in the job description. If anything,..." Her colleague walked out the door, being signaled by a messenger. "I will not be mixing business with pleasure." She hissed before Lindsey walked back over. "I see. This is not the job for me. Is there any other positions available?" His eyes twinkled. Lindsey took him by the arm and escorted him out. I followed tucking the paperwork away, where did they go? "He's in Javier's office." Lindsey mentioned as she returned. "I can't believe it." I huffed and stalked to his office. "Javier, Lindsey mentioned my interviewee..." "You mean my new assistant. Daniel has the job." He smiled at them both. "This means we will be seeing a lot more of each other..." Betty smiled back.

I really like this open ending hinting at a romantic relationship between Betty & Daniel.
He's obviously fallen in love w/ her. And Betty seems interested too- curious at the least. And bc they've both gone thru so much 2gether & their friendship is so strong, even if after that first dinner date(s) they realize they're better off as friends, I can see them actually staying friends! Even working together bc they do make a good team like Daniel said.
I also wouldn't be mad if they did end up becoming a couple & marrying! That wouldn't surprise me since it would be in harmony w/ the ending of the original (Yo Soy Betty, La Fea ) and the other versions.
Either way, I'd love to see a revival mini series! The original YSBLF is getting one. Why not Ugly Betty!?
The fact that it ended on a cliffhanger was a bit annoying. They should have had a fifth season to see how things were going with Daniel and Betty. Also Austin and Justin!

I’m hoping the producers will bring back a great ending because this one sucks. After the ups and downs the two went through with each other there should be a better ending for the two. The viewers shouldn’t be left guessing what happens after Daniel follows Betty to London.

Since prime video is continuing the original Betty La Fea this July 19 I have hope that someday they will continue the story on Ugly Betty in a whole new way to see where all the characters are at now cause I know Ameica said recently she would to revisit the character again.
Hey :) Well, this story was very different from the original Colombian 'telenovela'. This one had a few different characters added into the storyline and the ending is completely different. In the 'telenovela', the male lead falls head over heels in love with Betty. It's kind of a criticism to society's crazy beauty standards. By making the hot male lead fall in love with the "ugly girl", the telenovela mocks the crazy standards of beauty. Sorry for the long reply, lol. Hope this helps!

The way he looks at her at the end says he knows he found the one and she accepted the dinner invitation so things may go well for them. I think they ended up together. 😄
When Claire basically told Betty about his feelings, Betty didn’t look uninterested. It was more surprise since Daniel hadn’t seen her that way before. And then look at her reaction when he asked out to dinner. She was very happy and she already had the information Claire told her in the back of her head. This showed that she was open to being romantically involved with Daniel. He had to be the one who made the first move though and everything suggests he was going to romance her in London and not let her go.
