- I bought this 1989 Ford Taurus from the son of an 89 year old man who had passed. The car is, as you can tell, in really good condition. It did have leaky valve covers when I acquired it but I have since replaced the valve cover gaskets. The old man took the time to add a full size spare tire, but that's not shown in the video as well as I had hoped.
When I was younger, I built two model cars of the '89 Taurus SHO (I still have one, painted blue just as this car is), so as silly as it sounds, I do have a fondness for this car.
This body style came out in 1986 and was radically different from anything on the road at the time. If you look at one of my other videos, you'll see my 1985 Grand Marquis which is big and boxy (love it) like a lot of the cars at the time.
Whoever was the original owner really took excellent care of that car, that Taurus looks absolutely flawless!!
Wow, very nice! Very rare to see one of these of this generation in such great condition.
That car is in Absolutely amazing shape! My first car was a 1990 Taurus L. It didn't ever look that good. Very impressive.
Those cars were great as long as the 3.8 wasent under the hood. Notorious for blowing head gaskets.
What a beauty. Almost exactly the same as the 89 LX my mother bought new and I spent my childhood in. This is crazy nostalgic.
Hope you run it and enjoy it.👍
nicest old taurus ive ever seen. i had no idea these were avail with climate control and electronic gauge cluster....id love to own that car!!!!!

Primarily in the first generation, 86-89 especially. The electronic cluster was optional on LX and GL. LX trim was rare, L and GL were the bread and butter.
The electronic gauges were available up until 95 if I recall correctly. This car has every option except for leather and sunroof. It even has the insta clear windshield which was like a $1000 option back then.
and the SHO package lol
@@killajakez what's the Insta Clear?
@@Mario_N64 One of the rarest options in the early tauruses. Basically there was a metallic film in the windshield, you press a button, and it would defrost the windshield in 3-4 minutes. Imagine a rear defroster without the wire lines.
I really want one of these first generation models. They are my favorite among all model years, as well as one of my favorite cars.
Really nice to see you found one in great condition. I don't think I'll ever find one as good as yours, but I hope to obtain one exactly the same - digi dash and all.
Wow its in awesome condition! The car that saved Ford... wish I had one....if only they put the same passion into FORD cars now.
wow thats cleaner than mine. my grma passed away and i took her car home. hers was a 91 gl. only 42k miles. interior is CLEAN, front 1/4 left side is faded front sitting in her carport and the Tennessee sun shining on it year after year. but she is clean!
Any good body shop can do a paint correction and get it looking good again, the 1993 I'm getting from my great grandpa has one rust hole by the gas door and top surface clear coat failure, it was garage kept but Ford paint wasn't that good back then and he drove it like anyone else drives a newer car until recently, has 155K on it with a brand new top end service because of the dreaded head gasket problem, he got the aircon updated and it still works, blows colder than the aircon in my 2005 Grand Marquis which is saying something because that car has a brand new compressor, accumulator, condenser, and evaporator while the Taurus has only had the condenser replaced everything else is original
Why after 30 years we see the beauty of the car. Your car it's stunning. More than beautiful
Very good walk around. She's in excellent shape
I had a 1989 LX Station wagon loaded with every option with the 3.8 and a 1993 Sable LS loaded with every option and the 3.8 and they were both very comfortable and fast. Now i drive Crown Vics, Grand Marquis and Town Cars.
Para qué quiero un auto nuevo teniendo este Taurus? Mi favorito por siempre! Felicitaciones desde Argentina.
Tienes taurus?
That's how headrests should all be
Loved this style Taurus 1985-1991 especially the LX and GL SHO models
Beautiful car. It's immaculately gorgeous
I love it! We had an 89 GL when I was a kid and I now own an 89 SHO. I have been restoring it. If you decide to sell it, message me.
what a beautiful car!
Such a cute Cluster !
My first car was a 1988 Taurus of the same color and trim level. We paid 800 bucks for it and it lasted me a few years. I have fond memories of that car. This one reminds me of it--eventhough it was never close to the shape yours is in.
phosgate54 Mine is a 1994 with the 3.8 and for me it's already sticking to me. I've thought of selling it a few times but I've just grown too fond of it in order to actually do it. Plus I'm moving to somewhere where it's cheaper for insurance in order for me to get the insurance by myself without my parents.
Nice car, looks a cool part of the US too!!
I've owned a lot of Taurus, in all styles but the 2008, and 2010+. But by far the most comfortable was my first, the 88 GL. Had that same dash, and I miss the damn thing
The 2008-2010 and the Five Hundred are great cars if you can find one with low miles that's been taken care of, the Five Hundred is absolutely gutless because of the antiquated 3.0 while the 2008-2010 Taurus will gladly get you a speeding ticket, that 3.5 Cyclone V6 is a good engine, the EcoBoost 3.5 is based off that engine
Absolutely incredible. What a gem!
holy 1980s beauty
Soy fan de este taurus modelo futurista.
Te felicito.
nice car!
What a nice Car!!!!
Admirable!
That car still looks modern
Omg its beautiful 😍 i wish i had one!!!
Absolutely beautiful
realy cool car
If the 1990 Taurus did NOT have airbags, then I think it would have used the 1985-89 Ford LTD Crown Victoria steering wheel in that case.
I want to restore a 1986 Taurus LX Wagon in red with all equipment options.
I'm planning on restoring a fully optioned 1986 Taurus LX Wagon in Medium Canyon Red if I can find one.
Автомобиль-мечта! Nice car
Those were the days.
I want to buy!!
1988* the 1989’s were either the SHO, a manual transmission, or a station wagon
No this is an 89. It has the LX bumper trim of the 89-91s but the interior of an 86-89 so it's an 89.
This is basically a time capsule with wheels
Nice car!!
Do you still have this car? I'd love to buy it when you're ready to sell it! I want a mint 89 GL or LX to go with my 89 SHO.
Awesome car. Not crazy about the 3.8 though. I have a 1992 wagon that came with a 3.8 that threw a rod at 81k despite regular maintenance. Now it has a 3.0/AX4N out of a 1995 sedan.
How much and where do we meet? Lol I currently have a 92 3.8 lx and a 95 gl with a Vulcan. Even tho the gl is in better shape, I still gotta say I love the extra torque of the essex. I Have just barely hit 134500 miles and bought it at 71000 original miles. Have yet to see any indication of head gasket issues but tbh, I keep an eye on her more than a crackhead keeps an eye out for something to steal. Maybe that's why I havent had any troubles yet
If you still have this Taurus, could you kindly swap out the chime for a scary buzzer from a 1995-2000 Dodge Ram Van?
❤
😍💛🚗🚗🚗Taurus
I will buy a simillary Taurus is an 3.8 liter, do you know what is the gas mileage?
They Best american sedan un they edge.
Do you still have this car?
I do 😀
I'll totally buy it
@@jeffharkson1920 That's tempting but I still enjoy her 😀
How would you compare the suitability of this engine as opposed to the Vulcan V-6?
The 3.8 has a lot more torque but it blew head gaskets quite often. There is a mod to fix that problem though.
@@ironinquisitor3656 what is the mod? I own a 3.8l essex 1995 Sable LS with 78000 miles
@@OneCuriousOwl0720 There was a version of the 3.8 Essex from the late 90s that was used in the Mustang and Windstar that had better head gaskets. There is a guy on the TCCA website who I can't remember his user name off the top of my head. On the Taurus Enthusiast page on Facebook his real name is Christopher Muscarella. He can help out and explain things better.
How much for it?
i had a 1990 ford taurus just like this one just as clean no rust just like new well that was untill some drunk driver crashed into my car
Good car but the 3.8 Essex is a no no for me. I'll only take a Vulcan. That 3.0 liter was bulletproof.
Too bad it doesn’t have the 3.0 motor.
its beautyfull... how much dou you want? $$$$$$
А мой MERCURY SABLE попал под бомбу и его уничтожело.Для меня это лучьшая машина.Он такой как и этот.
Great Car! But I would only get a Taurus LX with a 3.0 Vulcan. the 3.8 Essex had bad headgasket problems and cars with that engine had higher transmission failure rates than engines with the Vulcan.
True they did have head gasket issues. But if you got a good one and kept an eye on it it was a fun engine. I had a 93 Taurus police car with the Essex in it and I dearly miss that car. I had a chance of either getting a transmission rebuild or a brand new car with a warranty. And unfortunately at the time I had to go with the option of getting a brand new car.
Highlander luxo
Funny how the 1989 looks like the 1986
Well it is a first gen Taurus. There is a few cosmetic differences between this 89 LX and the 86 LX. The gray LX trim on the bumpers are different.
85 to 87 I believe looked exactly the same, 88 and 89s had similar dash and interior but offered the newer taillights and headlights that slightly differ from the older years but biggest change was the offering of the Thunderbirds 3.8 V6 Essex. Yes these had head gasket issues but if maintained were very powerful and much like the newer Duratec series cars had plenty of torque
listen to those doors open and shut! they don't make them like they used too!!
way better now
Shame has that 3.8 though that was the worst engine in the Taurus family
Matthew Hybel notorious for blowing head gaskets. But still a nice car.
I'd only take the Vulcan. That's why I'm going for an 86 LX to restore.
