I really get a lot out of your videos. They’re often thoughtful and full of useful info. But why, oh why the silly click-bait titles? So unnecessary when the content is good.
Glad you enjoyed it - ‘Clickbaity’ titles help with click through rate, which really helps the algo. As long as I’m delivering on the title and proving good value, it’s all g 👍
Regarding suggestions: I would find it really interesting to see you experiment with NZ native plants for support but also fruit.
I have been fascinated with this for some time (Australia, Germany, now Portugal), I trial a ratio of 10 native to 1 fruitbearing. I love foraging for rare wild seeds, it's a magical and joyous task to get to know a place and its plant at different spots in different seasons.
Amazing work, showing us what's possible!! I'm intrigued t see what the next chapter is 🙂

At 9 min, you have about a dozen trees in a square meter it seems. How in the world will they flourish when they are so close? Do you remove them as they grow? I thought trees wanted room to move. What is the reason to plant such trees on top of each other? Great channel btw 👍💪🏻🙏🏻

Do you think chickens would improve? They would eat the grass, the trees would breathe and their poop would feed the soil.
I'm in Australia and worry about snakes, ticks etc. I too have chickens I want to run in my orchard, might change it a bit 😊

Great update bro. We're in the middle of frost season here in Motueka but am keen on getting mexican sunflowers going as another support soecies in spring. Can u grow them from seed and if yes do mitre 10 etc stock seeds in your experience?
Nice. Spring is when to plant them. Cuttings only - If you’re buying seeds, it’s the wrong one. Let’s talk closer to spring and maybe can sort you out 👍
@@byron.in.new.zealand Is the Mexican sunflower the same as Tithonia? What you show seems larger than Tithonia here in Texas, but things do grow bigger in NZ. Why can't they be planted from seed? Thanks . . . just found your videos a few days ago.
@@laddieokelley6095 Theyre both tithonia. The smaller red flowered annual is Tithonia Rotundifolia, the taller mineral mining yellow flowering perennial is Tithionia Diversifolia. Rotundifolia is grown from seed but Diversifolia can only be grown from cuttings
@@Dd214medaddy Thanks for the clarification, which enabled me to do further reading and find a source of diversifolia cuttings in Florida. Here in zone 8b I anticipate needing to treat diversifolia as an annual. At 20 USD for 10 cuttings/free shipping, not bad, if I find this plant useful.

anyone know what plants to use that are good in between fruit trees in 9b northern california for chop and drop bio mass?
How many acres do you have planted in this syntropic sistemy ?
Why put the banana logs to limit the space the tree has? Or do you do it for other reasons?
That looks very alive and prolific. However, with so many types of plants altogether, it seems difficult come harvest time. Like, time to harvest this fruit, okay, let's go on a scavenger hunt for it.
Another thing, with such dense spacing, the crops you really want (for profit) might not get to their full potential.
I watched your informative video on syntropic agroforestry already. I am guessing my concerns are unwarranted, because certain plants will be removed for biomass.
Luckily, animals can provide great biomass, allowing the farmer to have greater specialization and simplification.
Have you tested the theory of stagnant hormones buy leaving one row to go full cycle and see what happens to compare growth?
yes, I’ve got a trial area where I do hardly any management and the fruit-trees are MUCH slower to grow. I’ll share an example of that down the track

So what are the target crops? What do you expect to be making money off in the future? Its seems like you have just stuck as many things in as you can.. You have citrus, cherimoya, inga, guava, macadamia, avocado and more all on top of each other. Doesnt seem to be any definition between support and target $ crops?
You just mentioned a handful of target crops.. Already have began selling things like Tamarillos, papaya, elephant garlic, sugarcane and other propagation material like banana stems, Bana grass, Tithonia etc for other client projects. The higher-value target crops (cherimoya, lucuma, inga etc) won’t become commercially productive for a few more years. The citrus, plums, avos, apples, Feijoas and other established crops are already profitable. Not sure I understand your comment
But why plant so many 'target' trees together ? Seems like a waste of planting material increased work and confusing for people interested in these sorts of systems. Why plant fruiting trees you will be cutting out.

Rather a trend promoted by people such as yourself. The primary outputs aside from biomass are jargon, youtube vids, new content creators, courses and very little food for lot of work.

If you have list of trees and plants the support species I mean when you found out you need to have dense population.
