    Great tips to use in schooling to help get my horse balanced & listening- especially the halt into the corners. Also good to use corners to breathe!!! Thanks!

    This video is super timely for me, and so helpful! I tried to comment via the Premiere Live Chat feature, but it looks like it wasn't sending, so, here is my comment--thanks again for this wonderful video: Happy Wednesday to you as well. I've just gotten a new horse--an OTTB who is a good dressage prospect. She's 7 years old and very green in everything (but very sweet), and my trainer and I are starting with the very basics with her. Yesterday was her first training session, and we were doing corners and small circles--simple figure 8's at a walk, because that's where she's at. She didn't even know how to yield from the inside leg (had only been ridden cowboy style before), but by the end of the session, she was starting to grasp the concept. Good little girl:-) It was a good ride.

    Love love love this Amelia! Can't wait to practice this with my trainer on my next ride. My new mare is a super safe ex-jumper and I'm a newly classified Para. She's super sweet and willing and I'm patient and soft with my hands so we're a good match. I haven't ridden in 4 years but have a great support team and am practicing for a show June 19! Because I need visual due to cognitive issues, your videos help me to see and understand what to do rather than someone just pointing and telling me what to do. Thank you!

    This corner exercise is wonderful. My downward transitions have been very messy. The walk halt corner is really perfect for Mirage and I and he has a much easier time staying in frame and on the bit in both the upward and downward transition. The volte before shoulder in is making things beautiful. Thanks

      @@AmeliaNewcombDressage Worked with these exercises today. Left canter lead went well with the walk steps in the corner. Right lead is where I need to focus on sitting on my right hip, but then the circle became huge. Trying to keep the bend, keep him off his right shoulder, but turn on a 10 meter circle. Improved, but was probably 15 meters. LOL. Yes. Right hind is weaker for carrying on a smaller circle. Exercises to strengthen that? Thanks!

    This was really helpful, but I feel like the canter aids and bending aids are very similar as after a half-halt and the bending aids in a corner my horse canters instead

    Hello amelia! I just watched your how to sit the trot video and I’m also on a very large bouncy warmblood (Hes very experienced) however I tend to flick my hips forward a little dramatically in order to feel comfortable in the trot and I was hoping you could give a little advice thank you!

    Great ideas! Going to try the walk and trot ones when I ride this evening. We're not ready for the canter excercises yet but I like the idea of direct transitions to get them engaging their quarters more for the corner. Would doing trot to halt just before the corner, walking through it, then halt to trot just after the corner work in a similar way?

    Hi Amelia, thanks for the info on short sides and corners! It makes a lot of sense. My horse was an ex bullfighting horse, so he has a problem with rhythm and I have been using the short side to "smooth" out his rhythm and prep for the long side. Am I penalized if my short side is not in good rhythm since this is a basic problem I'm having due to the history of my horse? thanks so much!

    Hi Amelia- I'm a big fan! Thanks for your instruction! I would like to know how you are counting your corner steps? From where to where? And would it depend on the size of the horse and stride length? Just thinking this through. Again, Thanks!

    We’ve been spending a lot of time on corners lately and adding small circles whenever I feel she gets rushing or bracing. Helps but I seem to need lots of repetition to finally get her straight in the hollow side. Tends to want to twist face and neck.

    Love the video, but my horse slows down in the corners, so I am concerned about doing a halt or downward transition there. Will these exercises cause us to slow down more? How can use them effectively?

    • @AmeliaNewcombDressage
      @AmeliaNewcombDressage  Před 4 lety

      In this case, you may need to think of riding forward or medium in the corners. If you do make a downward transition, make sure it is a forward downward transition and that the horse stays in front of the leg!!
