This is so incredibly gorgeous. One of the most beautiful pieces in the whole opera, and what a talented cast!

Their voices are perfect together - so beautiful. I admit to being a fan of Carol Vaness but Allen & Mentzer with her - well I've not got the words for how I feel. Wish I'd been there.

Thank you for this. This trio is one of the most beuatiful things Mozart ever wrote. I love Susanne Mentzer. I saw her as Adalgisa, and I was taken aback at how big and cleanly projected the voice was, especially coming from such a small frame. She is truly a great singer.

Lol...I wonder what expression he had on his face when you said that to him. What a gentleman he is, that being said. =D
You're extremely lucky to have met him in person though; I'm still working on a way to attend one of his recitals since he doesn't really visit our part of the world here.

Carol Vaness was the last great Mozart soprano. Other current singers are good, but Carol was without peer.

This is a little fast, but definitely FANTASTIC! If Kiri was singing Fiordiligi then I would have just died.
Oh man. I don't know who I want to marry more-Thomas Allen or Susanne Menter!
Olympicfreak- some mezzos sing Despina (those who sit in Dorabella tessitura, actually), but it sits a little high. I happen to think it's best with a fuller soubrette voice.

    Haha, I'm a gal too... But Mentzer's a mezzo..they almost count as boys ;)
A few years ago I met Thomas Allen after a show of this at the Met, and told him to have my babies (and yelled I love you at the curtain call). I think if I hadn't been able to justify my vocal lust as being a soprano, he may have been concerned, haha

sorry guy, i've only got excerpts. i'll try to get one of bartoli's arias up if i've got it and if that's what you're looking for.

There are other videos I have seen of Bartoli in this production. This was her debut. She then came back to do La Cenerentola and Le Nozze di Figaro. Do Mezzos often do this role of Despina? I know it is designated as a soubrette, but I think that some mezzos do it as well.

The first singer of Despina, _Dorothea Bussani_, was also the first Cherubino!!!
In the 18th century, there was't that difference between the voices, as we have today!!!

lucyliesinashes, I have exactly the same dilemma...but seeing that I'm a gal, I'll have to go with Thomas Allen. XD
rexeterna, Allen and Mentzer are wonderful singers, I always look forward to their collaborations...thanks for posting!

Haha, it's Mozart and the tempo's wrong- of COURSE it's Levine conducting!
