Hey Aaron! Some of the materials for this project I sourced and some of them I had around the shop from stuff I've accumulated over the years. But in a general sense, here's what you will need:
- Base material (HDPE, UHMWPE, or PTEX)
- Fiberglass cloth (18oz-22oz, bi- or tri-axial weave)
- Your core (I used a one-ply, 1/4" horizontally laminated bamboo sheet)
- A top sheet material (I used a wood-backed cherry veneer)
- Binding inserts or M6 tophat nuts
- A finish (I used water based polyurethane, spar varnish would be a safer bet.)
- Epoxy resin. I'm using West systems 105 epoxy and 205 hardener.
The base, glass, and binding inserts can all be bought from any of the snowboard material distributors in the video description. I got my bamboo from nwbamboo.com (link in the description). I got my resin from amazon, but comparable resins can also be bought from the snowboard material companies. I got my wood backed veneer off of ebay. I got my finish and tophat nuts at a hardware store.

Hey! great videos. This make me want to go to the garage right now! Quick question for the mold. I have seen companies that include grove in the base (www.powsurf.com/boards/) see the CDC 3-dimensional. I was thinking of doing something like that but I'm afraid that if I had a shape on the bottom side of the mold, it will also curve the top of the board... What would you suggest? Thanks!
The grassroots guys are pressing their boards from veneers with a more precise two part mold that has all those curves in the top and bottom. Similar to a skateboard mold. My recent experiment with a 3d printed skateboard mold would be one way to go about pressing a board like that. Something else I've seen people do with full wooden decks is to route channels in the bottom of the board, or to cut the layers of the board to different shapes to make the channels and curves of the hull. Check out @ig_fall_fun on instagram, he makes some rad powsurfers that way. I'm not sure how you'd incorporate base material into a build like that, but it could probably be done
