That's awesome. My dad was cool about it and it totally shocked the daylights out of me. In fact, he asked me if I was gay before I could tell him. I answered him, yes. He asked if I was sure and again I told him yes. He said ok and we moved onto another topic. You could have knocked me over with a feather. I later learned he witnessed a friend's negative reaction when their son came out and decided he would not do that to me. Gave him time to think. Thank God.
So glad that Larias is back on!! Ilkka has done a good job of portraying an over-protective, but very narrow-minded father. The fact that his character is evoking a lot of comments is a testament of his acting. I also like the fact that Lari is defending Elias, even calling him his boyfriend. Lari has come a long way since the beginning, and it is very nice to see. :-)
I will never understand why people make such a big deal about something that matters as little as what gender people have that you are attracted to. I will never understand how people can afflict so much pain to themselves and others that is so utterly unnecessary.

Elias' father is missing atm (he was in plane crash and is alive in Russian forest with Isabella, Peppi, Sergei and Helena but Elias and others don't know that) so he naturally couldn't tell his father since he's nowhere to be found.
Oh snap this is getting intense. I must say, I loved how Elias held his own, but I agree with the top comment. Ikka needs to calm down, or he'll lose more than just Lari.

Hi-five! I live right outside Austin & agree with you 100% :) There are several Out-kids at my daughter's highschool, but you still run into the occasional Ikka-type. One very talented singer she has theatre class with has a dad who is obsessed that he not be gay by forcing him to take basketball, even tho he hates it!

I know it is because of ignorance or something like that but yet it was kind of shocking. I'm 25 and I feel like my generation was more sensitive about it, more accepting... the new generation however seems less accepting... and that is what scary me the most... although I know everyone doesn't think that way.

Lari's Dad is in denial, even though he loves his son but is a man who holds on to his manhood. His fear is that his son is not going to be looked upon as a man since his gay and blames himself.
Heartbreaking. But I think we have to assume that Lari's Dad will come around in time. He has already lost his wife, does he now want to lose his son forever? In the long run, I don't think so.

Though I don't think it is a strong as I am describing it here. I think in the show, the inference was very subtle. But that was the inference.

So the Kalle parts are available basically nowhere (only in someone's old VHS cassettes and of course MTV3 themselves ). So there can't be new parts before they release the next parts of old Salatut Elämät episodes in DVD if they ever do it. I'm sorry :(
I wonder if that doesn't represent a casualness about the subject. In the past, any references were taboo, and if called such, a great insult. Today, those words have lost much of their meaning. This reflects my conflicted feeling on phrases like "That's so Gay". Is that an insult, or an indication that this word as become totally defused? That is has entered common speech with little or no meaning?
I get that this is a show and I am so thankful for being able to watch it. That being said, with all the gay bashing going on in the U.S. more and more of us are arming ourselves. Ikka would be screaming on the ground. With me I am armed against the police dept where I live. I am almost to the point of suicide because of them. If it happens I will miss this show. Today this is not such a big issue, especially among younger people. But you must realize that this in not how it has always been. There was a time when Gay people were treated like dogs. Their Rights we constantly violated. They were mercilessly persecuted. They were beaten and murdered with impunity, frequently by the police. It shouldn't matter, but to a lot of morally corrupt people, it does matter. And you need to be aware of that.

It depends you never know. Usually it's 2-3 times but there can be weeks when they don't have any airtime and weeks when they are in every episode :)
