Man, Blargho really got THE BEST SPELUNKY SEED for the return and just straight up fuck it up in the necronomicon part. This was awesome, that type of fails is like this channel trademark and the seed was good so it was an awesome experience to watch.

spelunky hd is so easy in comparison to the sequel lol, even though it seemed very hard when it was still popular
Yep, it was so easy in comparison that people worked to make the game harder by trying to maximize the ghosted gems they got for a high score. The challenge wasn't winning, the challenge became get the highest score possible.

I agree, once i played spelunky 2 only for like a month and was terrible at it, but when I played spelunky HD for the first time in about 6 months right after I got to the city of gold on the first attempt

I played Spelunky for only 1 week but rate it as one of the best games I have ever played. It's legendary! Also: I played it with Diablo 1 music in the background. The 2 mix surprisingly well together!

Your 101 videos were the first Spelunky videos I had ever watched. They helped tons! That was already like 2 years ago and I still can’t bring myself to go to Spelunky 2. I enjoy HD so much. I’ll make the jump eventually.
I remember when Spelunky 2 came out I thought the art style was really weird but now I love it.

I still can't beat Spelunky 1 and i would consider myself a pro at other indy games like BOI etc. I feel as if i cant seriously move onto Spelunky 2 (which i own with 0 hours played) until i beat the first game.
I get as far as hell and then end up dying in some stupid way and put the game down from being so frustrated.
Something that nobody probably picked up on was that he forgot his own tricks! In an old spelunky 101 video, he states to face away from the shopkeep if using the mattock so you don’t keep digging his grave!

I could never beat the Spelunky HD and when I got the 2 I've switched to it. Then after a year I tried to play the HD again and guess what? I beated it from the first try! So Olmec has never defeated me, I suppose I can screenshot the 1:0 score if he's in the book. Anyway, it feels like 2 is harder or teaches something that was immediately enough to win the HD.
I miss the Ice caves snow.
I bought Spelunky 2, but soon I realized that it will never be as good as Spelunky HD. So I stopped playing Spelunky 2 and I always and only play Spelunky HD. Spelunky HD is a true classic, and no game can beat it in my book. Spelunky 2 is too big, like a mutated monster. It will never be a classic like Spelunky HD.
I don't understand lol, is this like blind nostalgia poisoning or something? I'm not judging but I am confused by your reasons. Mind explaining it other than "it's classic"? Cuz to me, Spelunky 2 is an improvement in every shape and form :3

spelunky hd i just like more. like, it feels so much more smooth. the enemies feel fair and balanced, while in spelunky 2 they feel cheap and unfair. in spelunky HD, the reason you died is because you messed up. YOU made a mistake. but in SP2, deaths can come at any time no matter how perfectly you play. u could just enter 7-xx one day and bam ufo lands on your head as soon as u spawn and there was nothing you could do to predict or avoid it.
in spelunky HD, deaths feel like a "haha i messed up, guess ill try again" moment, but in spelunky 2, deaths feel either like "i messed up" or "that was unfair and i couldnt predict that"
even the cheapest death in HD doesnt come close to what sp2 has to offer in being unfair.
another thing about SP2 is the beginning. the start of the game is really tedious. the dwelling has ONE song that i have named with my siblings "you just died to something far in the game and now you want to cry." or, the failure song. every enemy in the dwelling is ridiculously annoying for no reason. horned lizards can infinitely roll bodies, stun locking you forever and you die. ive had friends die to a bat or something then i die because a horned lizard infinitely rolls their body into me and im stun locked til 0 hp. moles are just unreasonably stupid. sits in dirt for 5 hours but the moment ur robbin that shop, 800 arise from their underground slumber.
in spelunky hd, i dont mind starting from the mines all over again. like i said, the enemies are fair and balanced and at most will stun lock you for 2 hp. even "my skin is crawling" levels are not tedious. giant spiders are beatable. i can still make it to hell and get a true ending. in SP2, if i dont get 30 bombs, kapala by 6-3, and a jetpack or vlads cape, i feel like the run has no hope. like theres no chance of 7-99. while you could argue that you dont NEED to go to 7-99, i think thats not the point. every spelunker's goal someday will be to reach 7-99. you can only go to 7-4 so many times.
the last thing i would like to say is, hell isnt as long, nor anywhere near as tedious as getting to 7-99. a 7-99 run can take up to 3 hours sometimes. a hell run could be 5 minutes. you get my point. hell is also a lot more fun and engaging area then cosmic ocean, which just feels like a trial of patience and suffering just to officially say you beat 7-99 (in my opinion, i should state). hell is 4 levels, fun, new enemies, background, false damsels, lots of creativity, vlad, etc. cosmic ocean is what you had beaten before, + no healing (unless kapala) and funny jelly.
in conclusion, spelunky hd arrow traps are faster and thus makes it a better game (this is a joke)
TL;DR, SP2's beginning is tedious with annoying enemies, its very hard to find motivation to start over after losing a good run, and the final world of SP2 pales in comparison to SPHD's hell (once again, in my opinion). and of course, SPHD's music. its for these reasons why i just like spelunky HD more. dont get me wrong, i still love both games, they hold special places in my heart. but i just love SPHD more than SP2, it will always be closer to my heart then SP2.

Spelunky 2 is really hard.
Idk man, Spelunky is definitely harder overall but each of the three games has stuff that makes it harder in a way.
In Spelunky classic the jumping spiders are like frogs but way faster and you can't move in a way while whipping in the other to catch enemies that are moving towards you. Shopkeepers are stronger than in Spelunky 2, UFOs are more dangerous to kill in classic than in the other games because they will not bounce off when you whip them or jump on them, they will go straight down. Skeletons can hit you in ways that are impossible in the other games (you jump on them while they aren't animated, they stand up, and then damage you) and there many other things that make it harder, like you not being able to whip arrows and other stuff around, or damage stuned enemies by throwing stuff at them.
In Spelunky HD the shopkeepers are hell, there's the "hell" world which is in my opinion harder than Hundun's hideout and in a way, harder than the cosmic ocean as the CO isn't totally hard, it's just very long. It's super hard to achive forgiveness in HD which will in turn make you deal with those demons thry call shopkeepers. The Mothership is way more dangerous than the one in Spelunky 2. Those things alone can make the game harder in many situations.

I don’t know if it’s just me, but I always feel like I have better RNG when I get back to the game after not playing it for a while. Jet packs almost guaranteed before 1-4 for a few runs with bomb boxes, spike shoes, very good crates too.
Is it just luck or is there a hidden factor behind this ?

I can’t tell if Israel was just messing with us the whole time, because there has been a time where I took a break from spelunky for 5 years, but got back on it and knew exactly which thing to do and all, and also the physics were kinda messed up when I came back to spelunky hd from spelunky 2, but I couldn’t forget some of that stuff if I tried. That might be because I always saw entering hell as part of olmecs boss fight rather than an extra, so that might be why it kinda shocked me..
Now after Elden Ring you’re gonna have to go back to Dark Souls 1 or even Demon Souls on emulator
The only area somehow semicomparable to Spelunky 2 in HD is Hell. If you go there for the first time those spike shits can fuck you up.

spelunky 2 is the more polished one out of the duology but HD just has this feeling of nostalgia and "random bull go" that makes me come back to it more than 2 ever does with it's overly-scripted gameplay beats and meta-centralizing cosmic ocean
literally the only thing that's stopping me from uninstalling 2 are the more developed mods and the in-built multiplayer

And being cursed will only happen in real specific scenarios (destroying Kali altars, or crashing into a pot. If you do any of those by mistake, you probably aren't that good haha)

Played a lot of Spelunky 2 but very little Spelunky HD (only beat Olmec) because I was introduced via Spelunky 2. Can somebody tell me why he couldn't get to Hell? Also yes I'm aware that it's the original version of Sunken City and canonical origin to Eggplant World.
in the olmec arena theres a door at the bottom and you have to make olmec land in there so you can go in (like killin olmec in spelunky 2, but here there's only one door). the way you know where the door is is with the necronomicon, which starts grimacing when you're on top of the door
