    Shaded area on glide slope below DA indicates that the visual segment is clear of obstacles (34:1)

    Excellent video! I just went through Machado's IFR chart series, and you packed tons of material into a much shorter video. You also mentioned a number of other intricacies and details he didn't cover.

    You failed to mention that you only fly the published missed approach at an uncontrolled field in a non-radar environment. If you fly the published miss at a radar served towered airport without getting a clearance to do so you can get a violation if you lose separation with another airplane, or suffer a midair.

    Top left corner, what does the underline on the ILS frequency mean? Just the underline under the frequency.

    As mentioned in the chart, BGQ IAF has some restricted area from where it can be joined. So now my question is, what about the other IAF’s like IVANN and ELLAM ? How should I joined them if they don’t have a hold lieu of PT, say I come from northbound . ELLAM is also very close to an obstacle of 7550 ft, very risky IAF if I join it from a low altitude with a wide turn. My guess here is only Radar can clear you to these points?

  • @masterswitchaviation
    @masterswitchaviation Před 2 lety

    Great video. I pulled up my FlyQ app and looked at my plate as you described. I did have a question. Since this doesn't have the Localizer, does that mean its now a non-precision approach? And if so, does that mean you have a MDA? I'm seeing only the 1600 msl which I assume is the MDA?

    • @btmountaineer93
      @btmountaineer93 Před 2 lety +1

      No this is a precision approach. It has a localized and glideslope, but it doesn’t have a localizer only procedure published on this plate. For example, the ILS to 7R at ANC is an ILS OR LOC RWY 7R. 1600’ is the altitude you should be crossing KANSI. Hopefully, that was what you were asking, if not reply and hopefully I can clear it up.
