What is the proper way of cleaning the stone it self. Once it has a lot of build up on it?

I find this hard and it leaves a massive roll out bur.

Good day received my Sparx yesterday I own a Blackstone a CAG and a Blademaster been sharpening for 12 years owned my own shop for the last 8. I ran a pair of skates and I have never in my life had to hone as much as I had to on these skates. What am I doing wrong? Thanks

Nothing!! Their instructions are completely wrong. And for almost a year, not knowing much about sharpening, I did what they said - my son was slipping and sliding but kept telling him his skates were sharp. Hell no! You need to work that edge until you feel no lip as. you run your fingers up from holder to edge. The Sparx machine really curls out the steel. However, once you do all that work, it's a really perfect sharpen.

@@riazwalji3417 I've been blindly running the honing stone with no understanding on my kids skates for the last several months, they always have been happy. Then I finally take the time to understand the purpose, and grind off that lip today. My kid said he didn't like it. Might this take 20 passes on the lip or specific area if the burr is that bad with standard stone? Any other tips?

Kenneth Grzembski we have the flat bottom V hollow and notice more curl than traditional. You could overdo it and thin the walls of the new hollow too much so be careful. Check The curl reduction as you hone but also check how the sharpen is improving by running your fingers across. There is a nice balance and you will feel when the skates are sharp (even though there may be a slight lip in that curl). Once you remove some of the curl you’ll see how sharp the skate gets. Once you have a nice sharp you’re good regardless of some curl/lip). Make sure the pressure is close to the skate holder so that you’re not damaging the angle of the edge by holding off axis. I generally work in three sections and overlap, averages about 1520 passes per section and a few full sections for good measure. But that’s based on our flat bottom V Hollow while always checking during the process. If you do it too much and you thin the wall of the hollow, while the skates will be extremely sharp, that edge will blow out in the first 20 minutes of hard play.

@@riazwalji3417 Thanks for the reply and advice.
I think my mindless honing was enough to cover most bases. I'll pay special attention to anything that feels as if it needs more attention. The more I read, a little lip isn't a problem anyhow.
