I work at mine starting at the front. I find where it comes out of the ground and cut a little below the surface and hold onto that part because it usually doesn’t have thorns there. Then I snip off the leaves holding it upside down and then take a knife or the cutters and cut off the thorns.

My blackberries are vicious...their thorns are huge so I try to avoid them but you have tempted me =)
