After listing to Larry on a good set of earphones I said to myself, this guy is the real deal. Sitting on his porch......no concert stage, no light show, no smoke or flames of fire, no array of effect foot pedals, ......just a hard-working man who expresses his love completely and masterfully unifying with his instrument and becoming one inspiration. There is something lacking today in the music industry and I believe it is what Larry unveiled. His unpretentious manner of delivery showed he did not have to prove anything.
Some of the Best players (of guitar, lap & pedal steels, bass, etc, etc, etc.) I've ever heard in my 70+ years of life..... Never even been On, nor played "on stage" in their entire lives. Absolutely Incredible talent "out there" in the "hinterlands"... who've only played for their own enjoyment, and for those around them.
I've been around the internet for over 15 years looking at everything from A-Z. My music collection is almost 300 gigabytes on an external hard drive and growing. This video is one of the Top 3 BEST videos I've ever seen. I could literally listen to it all day.
@@justinsane8000 No real amp-- (tho it was long ago); I'm pretty sure it was a line 6 amp modeling pedal straight into a JBL Eon 10" powered monitor. I could be wrong...The pedal settings were extremely tweaked....Outside gives the sound some of the 'air' missing on direct-to-board recording, I think.
Thank you! (YT tells me some of my replies never went anywhere, going back for years!!$?!!!--so if you got 2 THANK YOUs, I mean 'em both! More soon ! )
you know Larry..of all the different versions of little wing (I consider myself an expert too! I love the song) so ive heard so many but you above all I can see Jimi maybe looking down outta the clouds and sayin..."Yeah Man.."! (smile)
Larry thank you so much for posting this.....I have tears of joy in my eyes just thinking about how beautiful America can be right next to the violence/hatred/and racism......your music is full of love and joy. The birds are enjoying it very much as well.
Thank you! (YT tells me some of my replies never went anywhere, going back for years!!$?!!!--so if you got 2 THANK YOUs, I mean 'em both! More soon ! )

This is beautiful. Beautiful. Thank you for sharing your music. Oh... and the first time you just let go of the slide and let gravity take over... I'm moved.
David O' Connor Same, I always look at lap guitar but always end up back here listening to this and when i can't find this video, i get a little upset! But alas i always end up back here! Such Skill and such an instrument
Okay....wait a minute. You had me all along cos' Hendrix is the man. But then the way you rolled the bar down the strings.... blew my mind. This is beyond awesome. Great version Larry. Keep posting!
It's sad when Lady Gaga has like 20 trillion views and amazing talent like this has only 24k. Amazing rendition and very well played. Love the song and you played the hell out of it sir!
Thank you! (YT tells me some of my replies never went anywhere, going back for years!!$?!!!--so if you got 2 THANK YOUs, I mean 'em both! More soon ! )
Really outstanding performance and very original rendition! You've got great technique and a lot of cool, sneaky ways at achieving your objectives! This gives me a strong impetus to try out a lap steel, but I'm no spring chicken and might be a tad too impatient! If I can find something not too pricy that doesn't sound like something not too pricey, I think I'd have to take the plunge! Thanks for the inspiration!
Make a run at it. I am not young either. My dad's 1953 Fender just sat around for most of my life, then I started playing it, liked it, picked up a Stringmaster for parts and it was an old Peter Kleinow guitar, so that one stayed as is, weird tuning, home made knee levers and all. WD has started selling the ashtrays, so I bought some 38 year old Sipo wood and have 3 or 4 of the 8 string Fender style lap steels now.
Hutch that was just too much, man! :) Superb! I'm just starting out with the lap steel. This would be where I would aim to end up.... But as I am "Vintage 1954", don't know if I've got enough life left to get this good ;)
I'm teachable, but it just takes longer for skills to become fixed in the old noggin than before. My memory is not what it was. I will learn a new lick, say, but a week later I can't remember it. I mastered three languages before I was 40 and got to an acceptable level on three more. Since then, I have struggled to learn another one!
berni armstrong "Can't remember a lick". Learn the structure of the chord tones and all the paths between them on the instrument. Lots of practice to fix them in your mind. Sing [and be able to name] notes as you play them. On a good day, your playing will become an act of subconscious inspiration.
Smooth, so nice. It's playing like this that makes me pick up my guitar again..... thanks for the inspiration Larry. On a side note, only a dip$hit would give this rendition a thumbs down!!
love the original things you do that are a true joy to behold. .the bar gliding down the strings by itself ...and you pinged notes out of those strings in every way imaginable with a gifted passion. Thanks for sharing! !
Thank you again, Larry. I watch/listen to this when I need it, and I just don't know how you capture what I feel in my heart when I hear you play this...but you do. Rastafari.
I still come back to this video every month or so to watch it again. And every time I see it there are certain parts that always give me the most wonderful goosebumps. So much feel and love into your playing. I respect that a lot. Cheers!
Thank you! (YT tells me some of my replies never went anywhere, going back for years!!$?!!!--so if you got 2 THANK YOUs, I mean 'em both! More soon ! )
Little Wing is one of my favorite all time tunes and I've listened to every version I've been able to find, which is a lot, and this is truly one of the best and one I keep coming back too. Can't thank you enough for sharing this. I hope another 7 yrs from now this find you well Mr Hutcherson
Does anyone find their self coming back to this wonderful masterpiece after all these years.
Derek Martin yeah yeahs
YES....
Absolutely. Just started playing my old Supro lapsteel and I want to learn this awesome song. Can anyone tell me how the tuning is made up?
yes
Always..

Its Oct 2023 and I've only just found this.
I'm absolutely dumbstruck by this mans talent.
Humbling comment, thank you, and thanks for taking the time to comment.
This is absolutely insane, it starts so much an understatement, and suddenly Jimi jumps in. Fabulous playing and impeccable technique. Incredible.
Thanks!!

That being said, someone please holler if you know what amp/effects he's using!
what else do you think is high up there?

For some reason I've never seen this until 10 seconds ago. I am humbled, and thank you very much!

Every time I watch/listen to Larry's version of this, I get torn up inside... It's beautiful. Thank you Larry...
Tuning is an Em7 with E on lowest + G on highest--8-string!
man I just found this and appreciate you posting up the tuning. Great performance

The world would be a better place if this had 12,249,232 views!!!!!
+Scooter Lee I think we're all working on it, one view at a time. :-)
thats all?
what if it had 12,249,233 views? would it become too mainstream after that?
@Geocentric not with that attitude
OK...I know I've said it before... but this is still my favourite lap steel performance ever - never fails to send shivers down my spine.
When I can afford a house, I want a neighbor like this! Great feel, playing and tone Larry..
Just when I think I've seen everything, you roll the slide down the strings to great effect. Terrific!
I noticed that awesome trick. Smooth.

+the1realanalogman thank you !!
+the1realanalogman You could just get an old acoustic and a nut extender, and you have a playable lap steel for next to nothing.
$60 harmonia lap steels are on sale all the time on Reverb. I just got one and it's definitely playable for such a cheap price!

I just picked up a vintage Supro for $300.
Excellent Larry. Made my night.
What an incredible find (you). Thank you sir. You just made my day. Simply beautiful.
Hutch that was just too much, man! :)

Great playing indeed. I am starting too and I am a similar vintage. Never too late. I think the extra appeal is to be able to sit down. :)
Not thought of that Daniel, but you're probably right ;)
True, and I live by that motto. But it gets harder to teach that old dog new tricks ;)
