The NFL overtime rule is basically them admitting "Look, we've been here long enough. Let's wrap it up and go home"
I'm sure in part because MLB showed them what happens when you dont.
@@PaganCaleb I suppose. I think there's also a thing with North American sports where they'll do anything to avoid a draw
@@davidmontgomery1442 the problem is in a scenario where both teams would've driven down the field to score a TD had they gotten the ball first, then the coin flip determines the outcome. I understand the issue there though is you have to draw the line somewhere. If both teams keep going down scoring one after another, the chances of injuries skyrockets and players are more beaten up before their next game. In college it's fairer but yeah when you have a ridiculous number of overtimes you're risking kid's health in the sake of fairness. It's a tough one.
@@ThomasGreedyEars As a North American, I suspect you're right-- too many draws add layers of math and complexity that we just can't handle. It's binaries or bust over here. :D

As a Portuguese I had to go studying all the American Football game to understand what Larry was proposing to change...this man is just hilarious! Love his work since Seinfeld! I watched every curb and I just watched the first ep of the new show! One of the G.O.A.T.S. of universal good laugh! Congrats for this excellent interview!

The Rich Eisen Show is already incredibly entertaining, has been since it debuted. However, every time Larry David has been a guest, the show is absolutely LEGENDARY!!!
"Forget about your zone, where you're not guarding *anybody*..." That has lived rent-free in my head for 2 years now. I think of it every time I see a team dink and dunk their way down the field with little underneath passes.

LD is very clever. My dad did his exact Zoom Play back in the 40s (play Semi-Pro and coached). It was called the "button hook n go." Before he died he taught me to set up the D by doing a bunch of button hooks and then catch 'em w/ the button hook n go. He would have got a "kick" out of Larry!

Larry, if you became commissioner of football and you happen to be a Jets fan, maybe you could change the rule so that the team that scores the least points wins. Then the Jets have a good chance of winning the Super Bowl.

To be fair, Jerry ended Seinfeld bc he found doing 22 episodes a year hard to do while being the star, head writer, executive producer, and show runner. Curb only does 10 episodes a season and takes long breaks in between seasons sometimes.
Ok, so the XFL should do this! No punting, no field goals, no kickoffs. I would watch it for sure, and I’m serious. A second league needs an interesting twist in the game to make it worth watching.

They might as well play the full 10 minutes for overtime, that would be much better than sudden death
Sudden death takes the physical toll of playing into account. Same reason why teams only play one game a week and why the season is so short. Such a high risk of injuries and star players getting sidelined isn’t good for the league.
@@patrickthomas8890 I understand that but since the time change of 15minutes to what is it now 10 minutes most of these overtimes go down to 2 minutes anyways…might as well play the rest of the extra time

Why should the other team get a chance, they had 60 minutes to do it. If you can't stop the other team then you don't deserve to win
Counterargument: The Quarterback (for instance) is also just One Player, who substantially decides games. What's more, it is the work of the other 52 players - moving the ball up the field (or preventing that movement) - which yields the circumstances wherein kickers may or may not decide games.
