Hey Martina. I used to be a subscriber to Eat Your Kimchi/Sushi. It was tough to watch what happened to you guys, and I had to take a break for a while, but I'm so happy to see you flourishing now. I have a toddler and a newborn, and I'm dealing with a lot of difficult things in my life right now. I just want to thank you for taking me away from all of that for just a few minutes and for giving me hope that you can thrive after very hard times. 💕
I have been meaning to tell her this for a while now and you said it perfectly. I also have been going through a tough time and her videos have been so refreshing for me. I hope things start getting better for you 🥰
@@sierra4883 thank you so much, and I hope things get better for you soon too. Sending you lots of love and strength. 💞
@@danbrand2455 I see what you are saying, and I agree that what I may be going through is not nearly as bad as others. This thought does help me to be thankful and empathize with those in other countries who experience even more pain. However, not all pain is perceived the same. For one, infidelity might be harder for them than war that goes on. Or visa versa. While I understand your sentiment, I think you should find empathy in you heart for folks going through any kind of turmoil.
@@sierra4883 just block @Dan Brand
im sorry i feel i missed something. what happened to them?
Goodbye 2022, and Happy New Year to you all~ enjoy the food
Happy New Year!
Happy New Year!!
Happy new year Martina!
Happy New Year, Martina! I hope this year is amazing for you! Have fun living your amazing life and thank you for letting us come along! ❤
@@leflopjames5628 that’s a disgusting reply. You have no clue what she went through. Check yourself before you assume and reply with such disgusting accusations and filth. Shame on you. Go back to your cave you troll.
Happy New Year Martina. Hope the King Kogi community grows more and more. 😄
Happy New Year to you too~
@Fat Girl are u serious? wtf is wrong with people
@@KingKogi hey Martina you have great taste...Can you tell me your favorite city in Japan?
Stuck in the hospital rn due to pregnancy complications and pretty miserable about it. But it really brightened my morning to see a new video first thing when I woke up!
I fully appreciate how you mentioned that Osaka can be overwhelming for some. Thanks for including an area to de-stress from the overly stimulating crowded places in your guide. I love how you are very inclusive in your travel tours. A+ 👌😍
Proud of u martina, we're all here for YOU. Authentic funny smart genuine happy martina. 😊
Oh and the food hehe
Thanks for keeping your sweet shop blooper in Martina.... I have such a hard time ordering in small shops and often fumble over words, but something I've learned watching your videos and from my own experiences, it's always worth the brief awkwardness :') Thanks for showing us such cool things!!
Where is the sweet shop? Don't see it tagged in the video, nor can I find it on Google
this may sound very silly but I would love it if you created a "fashion" tour guide. More so, what types of clothing is best for certain aspects of the year. For example, where I live in the DMV because of the scorching heat and humidity, we just wear crop tops and shorts in the summer---no one bats an eye it's so hot. Yet, I know in Japan, it's very much a different culture. So, that's my silly request :)
Not sure if Martinas ever seen this but you can totally find fashion reviews by Japanese CZcamsrs.
This series is amazing. Great work Martina. Your editing skills are sooooo goooood
Well gosh, thanks! 💕 and congratulations on your engagement ! Next time you're back in Tokyo, let's get celebratory drinks! ✨
Nothing like cozying up over the holiday with a hot drink and a new King Kogi video. Your videos give me such comfort, and I’m floored by the quality of these videos. The cinematography, cute editing, well researched narration….You should really get your own TV show!!!! ❤ I know it’s been a hard year but I’m so happy that you’re doing okay 😊
Hi, I just want to make it clear that takoyaki is NOT topped with teriyaki sauce, but with a type of Japanese worcester sauce ウスターソース (Usutā sōsu). It is similar to tonkatsu sauce and okonomiyaki sauce.
These "worcester"-type sauces can include ingredients like fish sauce, tomatoes, prunes, dates, apples, lemon juice, carrots, onions, malt vinegar, yeast, and vegetable and fruit purees that are cooked down in a pot for a long time.
On the other hand, Teriyaki sauces are used as a glaze where foods are broiled or grilled with a mix of soy sauce, mirin, and sugar.
Thanks for the all this excellent info! I hope others can read your detailed comment!
Truthfully, I also knew this, but it’s quite hard to explain “flavours” to people who haven’t tasted something before, so I try to compare a similar taste that one might have encountered.
Teriyaki sauce in other countries is quite sweet and not quite like any sauce I’ve had in Japan, but I certainly know most people haven’t tried ウスターsauce before, so I felt like teriyaki flavour might be the closest. I contemplated “Bulldog” sauce as a comparison but also wasn’t sure if it was popular enough. Either way, thanks for the info 🙇🏼♀️
@@KingKogi Martina! Thank you for the reply and insight into your narrative process! That does make sense for those unfamiliar, but as a Japanese food lover I had to say something 😂. Love you and what you do💕
@@KingKogi I agree with this sentiment! Not everyone is familiar with Japanese flavors. It may seem so popular in most places that we take for granted that some people may not even have seen takoyaki more so tasted it before. And I agree, in most countries, 'teriyaki' means sticky sweet salty flavored sauce. :)
@@YoureSuchATallKitty And please leave as many of these informative comments whenever you want, I love a fellow foodie, and it's easier to express all the facts in writing, then in a short narrative voice over. I hope I haven't discouraged you in any way!
@@KingKogi Absolutely not discouraged! You are so considerate :) I understand things get edited out for flow or time etc. Chinese Cooking Demystified always leaves a dissertation in their comments haha. Writing is definitely easier.
Martina would you be able to do a Japan food guide for vegetarians/vegans? ❤
I’m veggie & nervous about visiting Japan because I don’t know what foods I can eat.. I also want to try as much of the cuisine as possible but it’s hard when there’s meat/fish in a lot of dishes 😢
I second this! I’m going to Japan in April and I’m a bit anxious as a vegan because I know fish is in so many of their dishes. I hope that most wagashi is vegan as I’m so looking forward to trying traditional Japanese sweets! 🍡
Currently Hannah is an Aussie vegan in Japan, maybe look there.
Buddhism is one of Japan's main religions, so there is actually long history of vegan cuisine in Japan! Just look for "Shōjin ryōri", Buddhist cuisine, temple cuisine, ascetic cuisine, or devotion cuisine.
You are right that many otherwise vegan dishes outside of shoujin ryouri are often prepared with seafood in some way.
Yes that would be so awesome!!!
I came to the comments to say this too, so happy this already has so many likes!
Man these food guides make me so hungry - glad for the "grab a snack" warning! lol 🤤
Also 10/10 footage of the canal! The reflection in the water of the city lights was such a vibe 😎
I have no idea if I'll ever visit Japan, but watching these videos still feels like taking a trip with an old friend. The quality of your content keeps getting better! Thanks Martina (and Dan!)
An accessibility guide would be a great addition! I am currently planning a trip to Japan with my mum, but it's hard to figure out which places are accessible or not.
This is such an excellent idea!
I'm so ill from flu right now and can't eat so I'm gonna live vicariously through this amazing food. Thanks Martina, this looks amazing
I have a strong migraine now and can’t eat either.
I hope we will get better soon!
This! Been puking for the past 3 days not being able to keep any food in my stomach, but this 17 minute video of lovely food I had no problem watching and it went by way too fast :(
Omg same I had a fever and couldn’t keep food down
This comment is the club for sick people lol! ringing in the new year with some sort of respiratory virus but I can't complain about starting my morning with a warm mug to calm my throat and a king kogi video to warm my heart!
Hope you feel better soon!
Here's something that I really appreciate about King Kogi that I only noticed recently, the videos are so wonderfully descriptive that they are still enjoyable experiences from just the audio
I'm sure I've commented this before but it would be really cool if you went to those little towns that have that one thing they do.
Like peaches, or plums, or cheese. People are so passionate and I love it!
One of my favourite things about Japan is how seasonal a lot of food is, makes it more exciting when it's the right time of year to eat.
I live in Osaka.
I'm Japanese.
Thank you for enjoying Osaka.
Way to grow Martina🧚♀️💖 thank you and HPNY 🎉🎉(did you know you could be so strong?)
甘辛屋から自転車で15分西のネイバーフッドに住んでいる大阪人として親愛なるマルティナが大阪に来てくれて本当に嬉しいよ!またいつでも大阪に帰って来て下さい。I Always love king kogi😁
たこ焼きめちゃくちゃ食べたくなりました
Long time watcher (a little over 11 years now), and Martina, I love that your passion and excitement for food and culture appreciation is just as high as when I first started following. I'm looking forward to seeing more of your informative travel videos and channel/business growth. Congrats to your success!
I chuckled so hard when Martina spoke Korean to that sweet grandma.
*cries* it happens all the time! My brain is barely able to switch over to Japan mode and I get so panicky it blurts out in Korean 😅
日本食を気に入ってくれているようで嬉しいですね😄
Your cinematography, for a lack of a less pretentious word, is so good! I love seeing the food being prepared, the ingredients, the little basket, and you showing the inside of the takoyaki gives a fantastic image of what theyre like
토끼 🐇I love how the word came to you in Korean first when you were explaining the headband. Martina, you should come back to Korea for another adventure. 🐾
I tried to book a trip for January but the ticket prices were outrageously expensive 😯 but I’ll be back 10000%
Happy New Year Martina! Wishing you all the best for 2023
OMFGGG Its been so long since i've seen your videos. I'm happy that you somehow popped up again in my recommendations. Your content is my favorite out of all the 'japanese guide' youtubers because you're so informative and I can tell that you have a passion for video creations. The vibey music, the editing, the camera cinematography, the segues. You put so much detail and care in creating a good experience for your audience. Thank you for the content Martina ^_^
Well happy to see you again, welcome to the channel!
@@KingKogi I'm glad to be back
“Bring a snack? I don’t need a snack, I just ate dinner”
I got 5 minutes in before I had to pause the video and get myself a snack. 😂
i will be in osaka in april and i can't wait to try all the food :)
Ohhh enjoy! Make sure you try more than one udon shop
MARTINA! I am SO EXCITED about this digital travel guide business. It seems to me like the sort of thing you would be EVEN MORE PERFECT AT. I really really hope that it goes WONDERFULLY for you. And when I finally get to go to Japan I will 100% be checking this out!!!
It definitely shows where a lot of the creative legwork was coming from. That’s all I’ll say about that.
Your videos make me crave going back to Japan and strolling through Japanese streets and interacting with Japanese people again!!!
It's good to be with you again on this journey! Thanks for being original
I can't believe I found you again! Your face just popped up on my recommended page......... and I was like....... Martina? Where have you been? You don't need to explain. Some other lovely youtuber filled me in on what happened. I have nothing to say on the matter other than it's so great to see you. You are looking as gorgeous as ever. I only just got back from a small holiday in Tokyo last week to meet my nephew and I must admit that I didn't eat enough Takoyaki but managed to eat more wagyu beef than should be legal.
I'm just happy to see your face. You have always been one of my fav youtubers and such a lovely soul. Please keep doing what you have always done so well...... be your complete and honest self. No wonder so many people are happy to find YOU again xx
I have nothing but absolute love for you! Been watching close to a decade. Your videos bring me so much comfort. The quality of your video is out of this world as per usual
Its clear that Martina was the heart of eyk and that heart is still clear to see with king kogi! Its weird to care this much about a stranger but I truly hope good will and blessings to you 🙏
happy new year martina !! u have no idea how long i've waited to see dotonbori in ur video style 🥺 i'm spending 2023 saving up for a trip to osaka next winter and this honestly feels like a sign that its all gonna work out okay 💕🐷
edit: i just ate dinner but i still shouldve taken ur snack warning ... i wanna shove my whole phone in my mouth
You are my new tour guide. I’ve commented before, but I will say it again; you tour Japan like I do. Except, you live there, bonus! I’ve booked my next trip and your advice is all over my travel plans. Thank you for these Osaka videos, it is truly Japan’s kitchen.
What a handy guide. I'll be adding these restaurants to my list for my January trip to Japan :) Incredible to see how much your channel has grown this year. I feel like you've really found your path with King Kogi and deserve all the success. I'm so grateful for the content that you make and can't wait to see what you have in store for us next year. Wishing you a healthy and happy 2023.
Hi Martina! I’ve been watching since I was 13 and haven’t missed a beat (I’m 24 now ) I loved the community you built and what you’re about. Thank you for continuing making content I feel a sense of comfort every time and I really appreciate it☺️I’m proud to be apart of the King Kogi Gang☺️ you inspire me so much and you’re a big part of why I want to follow my dreams.Hope all is well and Happy New Year’s 😁💜
Now I'm drooling over the naked takoyaki. 🤤
So happy and eager to see you back Martina. Can't wait to watch more!
You make me WANT To get out of my chair and go exploring local diners and food shoppes. Some days it's harder than others, you know what I'm sayin', after watching your videos I get a surge of '' I can do this'' Thanks Martina for Staying on Youtey and giving us Joy
Hope this channel grows and grows!!!!!!!!! Has the great vibe I know and love!!!!
I haven’t watched your content in a while and I just wanted to say that I’m so proud of you! Your content is incredibly high quality and I can see the immense effort you put into each of these videos. I’m excited to binge watch your content ✨
Hope to see more videos from you Martina! Always loved your videos from eatyourkimchi years ago
Absolutely love Takoyaki so very much. You warned me to get a snack, I did not and after about 10 minutes I got a lg bowl of Reese’s Cup Ice Cream with melted chocolate sauce. Absolutely loved every minute
This is perfect! In a year or so hopefully my husband and I will be moving to Okinawa.
Your work on the Tokyo and Osaka Tours videos have been incredible, Martina. I adore how immersive these videos are, and how you give historical context to the local area, shop, or food. They're an absolute joy to watch. I'm excited to dig in to the new Osaka Tours to wind down post-New Year. Great way to start the new year, and all my best wishes for 2023!
Udon, okonomiyaki, takoyaki and others made from flour are called konamon or kona stuff in Osaka.
Ramen Yashichi in Osaka is my favourite in Japan so far… they add some smoky grilled charred chicken just adds another dimension to their tonkotsu broth… a healthy and successful 2023 to all
Thanks for the tip, always down for shop recommends~
So glad to see you continuing to post this type of content, the editing and vibe in your videos is so good, and they're so informative! ♥
待ってました!
Loved coming along with you on this adventure! Will always appreciate your videos. And lots of thanks to the camera-person for capturing you on your flavor journey too! 👏🏼 cannot wait to see more of what you create in 2023, Martina! Happy New Years 🎉

Martina, I just want to make sure you know how much your community loves you. I hope the holidays were happy for you. Thank you for always putting out the kind of content you do. And being the kind of person you are.

thank you for the recommendation and their google links! My husband and I loved this video! He usually won’t watch tour videos with me because we have different preferences but being able to watch this together was a job! Please continue releasing such videos (:
Loving these guides Martina! Thank you for always making me hungry 😋 I can’t wait to return to Japan 🙏
So excited for your travel guides!! Definitely will be checking them out for an upcoming trip to Japan that I'm planning~ if they're not in there already I would love if you could put some menu translations and any highlights regarding when to get to restaurants early/make reservations (and how to make those if they're not online). Congrats on transitioning completely to this channel after EYK - continuing to support you after over a decade of watching your videos!!
I love your videos Martina, they are always so well done, great b roll, great voice over, really good editing, just very well done! keep up the amazing work, and I will definitely be buying your guides when i plan my trip to japan! what an amazing idea!
