  • It's my second time up at Burrum Heads, and it didn't disappoint! I was originally here eight months ago, and I actually didn't go back because...there aren't any toilets here after a long trip!!! BUT!!! I found the one public toilet a few mninutes from the beach, so problem solved, and I will be doing more trips here in the future, too!! I absolutely loved finding these green sea urchins, the joined Propeller Arcs, and of course; those amazing Threaded Sand Snails!! Wow, this was a really interesting and fun trip. Thanks for watching!!
    Let me know which ones were your favourites ;D and if you enjoyed this and want to see more shell finding videos, I'd appreciate a like or a comment. I read all of them and try to reply when I can. You have no idea how much of a smile you guys put on my face. Thanks everyone!

    I didn't even realise that Hervey Bay and it's surrounding beaches had such lovely seashells until I saw "Shellcade Shelling Down Under" - I admired him a lot, and you can also check out his videos here:

    I love this beach!!! ❤❤❤ You are so 🍀 lucky to find so many joined shells. Love the propeller shells. 🚁🚁🚁 Love the urchins. Love the baler shell (of course). My favorites today are the swollen wide mouthed top shells and the double banded moon snails 🐌🐌🐌.What a wonderful adventure today!!! Thank you Maddie! 🥰🥰🥰

      G'day Pam 👋🏻💖 This beach was an absolute joy to visit! I remember finding plenty here last time, but not so many gastropods 🤔 I must admit, I was originally reluctant to go again because it was mostly bivalves on the beach in September last year 😅 but it was almost like the opposite this time! I think the recent north west winds and rains blew a lot of shells to this area from Hervey Bay in the south. The joined bivalves from here are so lovely, but the biggest surprise was the Swollen Wide-mouthed Top Shells and the various Moon Snails...I didn't find any nice ones last year, but this time there was plenty!! I am rambling, but it was a fun adventure ☺️ Thank you so much for watching 🥰

    Good afternoon Maddie,y favorite is the threaded moon/sand snails. I love the Hercules club shell. I'm very interested in that top shell that looks so much like an abalone shell. Really like all your shells and those darlin sea urchins. Thank you Maddie for taking us all on wonderful adventure. I get excited waiting on your next shell find. You energy is contagious 😂 you have a wonderful day

      G'day Roberta 👋🏻💖 Yessss our favourites match up!!! Those little Threaded Moon Snails are just stunning 🐌 but honestly, there was a lot to like at the beach this time. There was actually a lot of Hercules Club Whelks around the roots of the mangroves, but they looked quite old (I only grabbed the best ones this time 😂), and those Top Shells are a lovely uncommon/rare find! The urchins are great...or they will be when I clean them up!! As always Roberta, thank you so much for watching 🥰 I think the next few adventures will be a little shorter, but that's just how things are at the beaches sometimes 🏖️🤔

      G'day Donna 👋🏻🏖️ They're really cool to see after only finding singular ones for so long! They're a crazy looking shell compared to other kinds os bivalves; I wonder how they evolved to be like that?!! Anyhoo, thank you so, so much for watching 🥰

      G'day Trudy 👋🏻💖 The coral is super cool at this beach 🏖️ I think it's something that regularly washes up here. The holes are really cool 😀 though, I think the holes leading into the coral itself are for the coral's polyps; think a bit like the stuff that clown fish hide in 🤔 or maybe I'm wrong, I dont know much about corals! There was lots to like at the beach this time, and I'm glad that you enjoyed seeing the Prickly Pen Shell, Threaded Sand Snails, and a huge amount of joined Propeller Arcs 😲 Thank you so, so much for watching 🥰

    Hello Maddie, and little blue soldier crab, 👋 Love all of those sea urchins, 💚!! The juvenile hercules club whelk, the scary murex, and prickly pen shell are my favourite shells today. A special mention for the threaded sand snail with strong light/dark bands because it reminded of a donkey cowrie's colouring.

      G'day Oceanluvn Gal 👋🏻🌊💖 Hehe, that little blue Soldier Crab was trying to get away, I probably scared it 😅 but it was nice to take a closer look at it for a few seconds! Oh wow, I love your picks for the favourites; no one else has mentioned that juvenile albanistic Hercules Club Whelks in the comments yet! The Prickly Pen Shell was surprisingly cool; I don't usually keep a lot of pen shells, but I kept that one! The sea urchins are super cool and what I originally returned to this beach to find 🏖️ SO very glad that I made the last minute decision to go to Burrum Heads that day. Oh, and the adorable Threaded Sand Snail gets a mention too 🐌🤩 too adorable with that lovely banding. Thanks for watching the big adventure 🥰

I honestly couldn’t believe how many shells were on the beach here...I really should have stayed there all day instead of just the morning 😅 I might have found more mussel shells! Those horse mussels were really nice to hold; the shiny periostracum had a nice feel to it! Thank you so much for watching this very long adventure 🥰 All the love back to you and your kitties 🐱

      G'day Darren 👋🏻🏖️ I think this beach is sometimes hit or miss? Last time I visited Burrum Heads was in September last year, and it was mostly a small scattering of joined bivalves, coral, and small urchins. This time, it was all of that plus the snail shells too! I saw the rain radar during the days leading up to my trip: wind and rain was pushing up the cost from Hervey Bay to Burrum Heads, so I think a lot of shells from your area were moved up the coast? Not sure, but I hope my next visit to Burrum Heads is also a plentiful one! Thanks for watching 🥰

      G'day Hilary 👋🏻🏖️ They are lovely shells, aren't they! I think those Swollen Wide-mouthed Top Shells are the crowd favourite this time 🤩 but the Threaded Moon Snails are a close second 🐌❤️ Yes, you are so right; I definitely need to return to this beach more often!! I was quite surprised; in sure there wasn't such a good variety of seasnail shells the last time I was here 🤔 it was mostly a lot of bivalves! I was hesitant to return to so many bivalves, but now I wish I had've gone back soon 😅 lesson learned! Thanks for watching 🥰

    Hello 👋🏼 Maddie!! The Double Banded Moon Snail 🐌 is definitely a favorite today. Reminds me of the Gaudy Nauticas you find at SW Florida😍 I’m in LOVE with the Threaded Sand 🐌 😍😍😍 So beautiful!! WOW 🤩 That Widemouthed Top Shells are another favorite!! They do look like Abalone Shells & elf hats 😂 The Baby Baler is adorable ☺️ All of the Green Urchins were really nice. What are your plans for them?? 🤔🙃 As always, my friend, thank you for taking us along! Take Care!! TTFN 👋🏼 ❤

    • @SandCoffeeRocks
      @SandCoffeeRocks  Před měsícem +2

      G’day Mimi 👋🏻💖 Oh my goodness, I think you’re the first one to mention the Double Banded Moon Snail 🐌 it almost got overlooked! I recall people in the past have said it looks like your gaudy nauties 🤔 and yes, it’s a decent match for your Florida shell, but perhaps mine are less beautiful 😉 Heheh, as for the Threaded Sand Snails and Swollen Wide-mouthed Top Shells; they’re getting all of the love this time! I think they’re the crowd favourite 🤩 Oh, um, plans for the green urchins is to sacrifice one or two to see how good/bad it does in bleach. I have some urchins from my first trip that I cleaned with laundry Oxy powder soap. The Oxy got all of the rotten bits clean, but a slight fishy smell has never disappeared from them. It’s time for bleach! Or if bleach is a no-no, I’ll still clean them with Oxy, and arrange them in a jar for display. An air-tight jar. Yes. 😂😂😂 Actually, either way, they’ll be going in a jar 🤣 Thank you for watching the big adventure 🥰

    Great selection today! I especially like the threaded room snails; really lovely. I hope the big chunks of coral aren't because of the bleaching of the reefs. 😢 Thanks for sharing the location. Not everyone is so generous.

      G'day Jan 👋🏻💖 I was surprised by the variety on this trip 😲 there was perhaps not as many species as what I see at other beaches, but last time I was here; it was all bivalves and urchins, I didnt find so manu gastropods! This was a very nice surprise because I wasn't expecting to see the moon snails, sand snails, top shells, murexes, and more on this trip. Ahhh, I don't know about the coral health for this part of Queensland, but I've heard that bleaching has hit the reefs pretty hard up north 😔 a global issue, unfortunately. Ah yes, I always share the shelling location 😳 I set it into every shelling video, though I wonder how many people will visit this spot; it's a little bit more remote compared to the more populated places around Queensland, and there isn't much to see in the small town of Burrum Heads besides the beach 🏖️ and if there is anything Australia has, it's beaches! I hope the town gets some extra tourism though!! As always Jan, thank you so much for watching 🥰

    I really enjoyed your video today Maddie 🎉
    They are so various and lovely,
    I like the green sea urchin, i only found it once and i accidentally broke it into pieces 😢
    But for today,my fav are:
    1st swollen wide mouthed top shell (it has cool and weird shape,like an alien head)
    2nd threaded sand snail (i really love the pattern)
    3rd sordid moonsnail on 10:07 (the gradation is sooo nice)
    4th allll the other moons
    And tbh, if i was there, I would like to take the coral with me, the shape is so interesting
    Thanks for the very great video Maddie 🎉❤

      G'day Nelly 👋🏻💖 It was a really good trip this time 🤩 The beach did not have so much when I was there last year. The green urchins seem to wash up here regularly. I have broken urchins before, I know that pain...they're so fragile!! Oh wow, I can't believe the top favourite for you is the Swollen Wide-mouthed Top Shell 😲 it's a cool type of shell, right??! I thought the Threaded Sand Snails would be your top favourite, but second is awesome 😎 Ohhh and the Sordid moon snail, that one has some really nice striations of colour!! As always Nelly, thank you so much for watching and enjoying the shells as much as I do 🥰

      Loved the propeller arks and urchins and that threaded sand snail was awesome! That scary murex would pop after an acid dip maybe--do you dip? I've been using Magic Acid over muriatic acid and LOVE it! Same results and safer. I oil them up after.

    • @SandCoffeeRocks
      @SandCoffeeRocks  Před měsícem +1

      G’day Roxann 👋🏻🏖 I could have sworn I was getting on top of messages, but obviously not 😅 thanks for waiting for a reply. Anyway! I was really surprised with this trip; I didn’t think this beach would have much on it other than urchins, coral, and bivalves, but it sure showed me differently! As for the murexes, I really should try to dip some of the solid, thicker ones in acid to see how it goes. I’m always worried that it will strip away too much of the shell, though 😅 I tried it on a few cowries once, and I wasn’t impressed. I don’t actually know if Magic Acid is sold here, but I have a heap of hydrochloric acid for the pool, so I can use that because the many ingredient is muratic acid. I’ll have to give it a try for these murexes! Thanks Roxann, I do actually forget that dipping shells in an option 😂 and thanks for watching 🥰

    I was under the impression that it isn't recommended to take even dead coral (even in places outside of boundaries of a national park or as in areas near the Great Barrier reef).

    • @SandCoffeeRocks
      @SandCoffeeRocks  Před měsícem

      G'day Jan 👋🏻🐚 It is neither encouraged or discouraged, nor against the law, so it's fair game. Everything I've read about dead shell and coral collecting on government websites makes no mention of it, so its totally fine. Anything beyond that (non government sites) are purely people's personal opinions, uninformed or otherwise, and hold no relation to the law or what the government or fisheries department has actually published about dead coral collection. It's all good, Jan 👍🏻 but you are correct, touching the coral (living or dead) in marine parks and in the Great Barrier Reef is a big no-no. Thanks for watching 🏖️
