  • We are delighted to present this exceptional Rolls-Royce Silver Cloud I. This model can trace it's origins back to the early post-war Bentley Mark VI. This low mileage example is finished in the famous 2-tone 'Sand over Sable' colour, replete with original beige hide interior that smells as it did when it left the factory in 1959.

    I first saw one in the late 1950s at Harrogate Show in Yorkshire, that was it i was smitten, and it's the model I've always wanted to own,they are simply (A HAVEN OF TRANQUILITY), it hasn't happened yet LOL, but I'm very happy with my 1980 Silver Shadow 2.

    I never took to the twin headlamps of the later Silver Cloud. I think the mk 1 found the car at its best. If I had the money, I'd be going in search of one but the chances of finding one as original as this example are pretty slim. What a find for you!

    Excellent example of a Silver Cloud. One slight error in the description is that on very early cars, a manual gearbox was available. With my 50 plus years as a Rolls Royce engineer, I have seen just the one example of a column change manual gearbox.

    An absolutely beautiful Rolls Royce Silver Cloud, however these cars were not known as a Silver Cloud 1, the reason being that when introduced in 1955, there was no anticipation of a subsequent and similar model at that time so it was simply known as the Rolls Royce Silver Cloud. In 1959, Rolls Royce decided to upgrade the engine to a 6.23 litre V8 and THIS became the Rolls Royce Silver Cloud 11 (and the following Rolls Royce Silver Cloud 111 in 1963). I had a friend (sadly passed away now) who owned one of the first 1959 V8's here in Australia, I believe it's untouched except for a refurbishment of the paint work - in it's original colours of two tone green (that's all I know about it at this time).
    Still, this is a stunning example of this era Rolls Royce which I have experienced driving from 1974 (when I was 22 years of age - yes, I AM that old!). Many MANY thanks for sharing this clip of your lovely car - by the way, it's in my favourite colours for this style, Sand over Sable. I LOVE IT! Thank you again and take care.

    SLG34 is as right as they come, and that’s a rare pleasure. In fact, it’s so splendid, that it is screaming for a correct set of tyres and a factory correct badge bar. Other than those two items, everything is spectacular:
    1. Original Vaumol upholstery
    2. Original carpet and rugs
    3. Original Sand and Sable paintwork with correct lining
    4. Original unblemished Hardura to the boot - that’s a rarity in itself
    5. Original HMV radio
    6. Factory power steering
    7. Engine compartment
    8. Perfect provenance
    With all due respect, please change to a correct set of 8.20 15 tyres or the lookalike radial with piecrust edge (either blackwall or era-correct width whitewall).
    Secondly, the 3-piece ‘V’ badge bar, although available during the era, is not a factory item. The factory items is a beautifully made one-piece item of a style and quality equal to the rest of this superb car.

    • @corlenwilschire
      @corlenwilschire Před rokem +1

      Whitewalls are only nice when the white goes all the way to the curve of the tread. They also usually only look good on all-black cars for contrast. So this specific Royce would be best fitted with original size non-whitewall.

    • @JSDesignHK
      @JSDesignHK Před rokem +1

      @@corlenwilschire the original 8.20-15 whitewalls supplied during this period had a whitewall width of 2 1/2 inches and didn’t go all the way to the edge - that sort of whitewall is from the prewar and early postwar period. Period factory photos and brochures will confirm that.

    je rêve de cette version, elle est intemporel, elle traverse toute les époques, elle ne vieillis jamais,. toutes ses voitures modernes de luxes dernier crie ainsi que les Rolls d'aujourd'hui ne peuvent rivaliser avec sa sœur des années 50 dans mon esprit, parce qu'elle est facile a vivre pour le sourire qu'elle peut susciter chez les gens qui vous abordent amicalement sur cette Silver Cloud qui efface la forme ostentatoire du paraître comme le font tout les peignes culs des grosses cylindrés. la Rolls Shadow des années 70 reste aussi intemporel mais compliqué à entretenir, sauf que la passion dans posséder une est un plaisir de la bichonner. Posséder une Rolls ancienne est un état d'esprit dans le gout de l'Art de vivre sans vulgarité;

    I think this is the peak of Rolls Royce as a brand. There is something special about a big inline 6 cylinder engine engine which a V8 cannot replicate. A part of me wish that Rolls Royce instead of developing the V8 would have contacted Bosch and purchased the right to the same fuel injection system as used by Mercedes Benz in their Adenauer 300 and used it on their inline six. Maybe a call to Peugeot regarding using their thermostatically controlled electric fan for the cooling system would also have been a good idea 🤔

      True, the V8 engines were very reliable. Bullit proof. It was the braking and suspension hydraulics that were the trouble for the Shadows, though over the 25 years that I owned mine, I had no hydraulic troubles, as I change the fluid as recommended and always drove the car at least once a week.( those systems needed to be activated and used!)

    The ads for these with their pictures showing the Cloud in incongruously middle-class, typically-American environs and wall-of-text sales pitch ("the loudest sound at 60 mph is the clock ticking" and pitching the lack of annual styling changes as a plus in the exact same way VW did at the other end of the market) are as classic as the car itself.

    It is a lovely example, and I'm told the six was much more reliable than the later V8 engines. But best in the world? A 1956 Cadillac came with Hydramatic, power steering and brakes standard. The Cadillac had a powerful and reliable 6.2 liter V8. You could have power windows, seats, locks, and air conditioning. And almost 70 years later, that same Cadillac would be more than capable of driving from Los Angeles to Las Vegas quietly and comfortably. The same can be said of Chryslers of that period. Rolls built beautiful cars, but at three times the price.

      Silver Clouds are collector cars. Most large American cars are NOT. But it was hilarious exporting a SC 1959 from Canada to Switzerland (via Rotterdam). the 7/8th nuts were Imperial and \I removed and HID the entire grill and Flying Lady (removing the lady I'd have broken the ornament, as zinc deteriorates over the years and remember: the WAR had just ended and Britain was POOR. Metals were very poor mixes. The engine was too small for that large a car, but also you're not going 200 kilometres an hour. You're toddling around town most of the time.
