As with all executive changes (and promises for improvements), let's revisit Casey and Newmar in 18-24 months and see how/if the process and product has improved. Everything he says makes total sense and he is spot on with all of his assessments, but in the end if the "troops on the ground" don't follow along, we all know what happens. So much of what he's talking about was addressed in the late 1960s and early 1970s by Ron Townsend, CEO of Avis Rental Cars, who had a similar approach to his business. (Read "Up the Organization" one of three management books I kept on my desk throughout my supervisory career). I absolutely wish him well and hope his enthusiasm and his common-sense approach are successful. It would be great if we could clone him and get him into the other RV manufacturers!

What an awesome interview. I picked up on a lot of Lean Six Sigma principles. Very effective process for this type of work. Love the fact that the product advisor now gets to drive and use the product that they are the expert on. Will certainly translate to the customer. Also love that he is willing to get his hands dirty, learning what the team is doing. That goes a long way to building a great team. Very impressed with Casey and his approach. The concept of continuous improvement was pioneered by Toyota. It’s called Kaizen. It’s good to see they’re incorporating this into their manufacturing process. In a Toyota plant any employee seeing a problem on the assembly line can stop the line, then the team gets together to solve the problem. With complex vehicles like motor homes or cars, it’s really necessary to build a quality product.

Great interview ! The term “continuous improvement” has been used in a somewhat cavalier manor by some content creators of late. Continuous improvement is the result of an all-encompassing manufacturing mindset that starts at the top and carries equal responsibility & accountability, while inspiring innovative thought processes from every team member at every level in the corporation. Challenge the status quo. That is how it’s done.

I'm curious if they have plumbing connection issues like so many other brands. A few RV tech guys have done reviews on many brands (including Winnebago)and so many come down to incorrect plumbing connections with PEX and flex tube that inevitably leak. Does anyone know if this is an issue with Newmar too?

  • @SteveHoke

Great interview guys, I would love for you to ask Casey when will Newmar fix the water bay issues on all of their coaches. We ordered a 23 DS 3736, love it with a few notes. The biggest issue I have seen is in the water bay, I removed the single water filter and added a BLU 3 filter system, when I removed the gray plastic cover I was appalled at the use of the wrong hoses and attachments, they are using pex on pex hose, great, then they are using reinforced poly (wrong size) and still using pex crimps. I asked Newmar if they would fix the leaks after the 12 month warranty and they said NO. I looked at moving to a 24 London Aire to get to a 45' coach and when I looked at the water connections, they were the same mess. I also looked at a 24 King Aire and the same thing. They need to fix the water bay hose and connection issue on all coaches for me to buy another Newmar.

I work in a vehicle industry where the President or General Manager position doesn't seem to have much longevity as the position is often controlled by the bean counters. Each individual rarely comes from within the same industry. Sometimes this has proven to be beneficial but often that is not the case. Things do look positive for Newmar under this man's watch. I hope he can successfully implement his ideas and turn around his slice of the RV industry. BTW, might you know what industry he came from?

  • @janicecrockett1400
    @janicecrockett1400 Před měsícem +1

If the industry wanted to help the end user they would go by sticks and brick housing codes and have logical, easy access to make repairs. It is more cost effective to use the proper material and installation the first time than make repairs under warranty. I have had friends that completely change out water lines and connections the first rattle out of the box to prevent leaks from happening because the industry across the board uses incompatible materials. That simply should not be the case. You can make anything look good superficially, but what you cannot see is the problem.

My request to the president is to allow the app to work on the 2023 and 2024 models. Newmar added a touchscreen, but removed the manufacturer interfaces. There is now no way to upgrade the tanks, HVAC or AGM for Bluetooth now, and if the touchscreen fails there is no backup.
Secondly, a high end gas coach should have Liquid Springs as a factory option.

This is off the subject, but it will affect all motorhome. About wrong way drivers. They are going to use GPS in each vehicle to detect if you are going the wrong way on a freeway. I want you to look in to this, because I see an issue. Not all maps are exactly accurate with GPS info. I'm seen Google maps been off my one street or more. I don't know on the hour:minute:second reading fo gps coordinates.
I believe that using the decimal format would be most accurate. It would need to be read out to the sixth decimal place. Where a lot of apps use 3 or 4 decimals.
I think the dedicated navigation devices and software are correctly mapped roads.

There is a difference between quality improvements and technology improvements. For instance five screens verses 200 switches. Yes there would be some quality improvement but at what cost. You now have a unit that costs how much more for lighting/electric than simple switch technology that is proven to work? It is great to now have five screens in a unit that is sitting on the lot. But if no one can afford it, what good is it? And that is what you are seeing in sales right now. No sale...

Things are looking up for Newmar, now to get rid of the ugly and useless trim on the slide rooms. Country Coach could do it 30 years ago, ni reason Newmar cannot do it now. Just adjust the thicknesses the fiberglass slide wall and get rid if the 3 inch trim. Your paint shop will love you for it, and all your customers ❤️ CHEERS AND SAFE Steve h.

Love Newmar and I hope this goes the way that Mr. Tubman thinks or wants it to but he still answers to the penny pinchers at Winnebago, and it's those people who can suck the quality out of anything.

RV’s are essentially Hand Made, I am old enough to remember when the term “ Hand Made” was synonymous with Pride in Craftsmanship, but lately it seems more like an excuse for Poor Workmanship. I like Newmar and if this guy stays the course his company will have a fighting chance in an industry that is damaged.

He’s a good guy but, he works for a wallstreet CEO. Bring back the previous Winnebago CEO. Then I Will believe it all. Take Winnebago private. We need the Winnebago of 2007 back. Not the 2020s Winnebago.

not that i am not giving him credit for TRYING, my issue/confusion IS; with ALL the people in the industry and that have been for many many years, they get a PRES who has none of that experience/knowledge/relationship with the products/line??????? it is just as ass backwards as the current POTUS race..... 🤠

Talk is cheep. I have a daughter and some friends that would argue that they don’t walk the walk. Their motor homes spent more time in the shops than in use. Several times, months, so don’t just talk, do some walking.

Interesting…seems like a great philosophy and approach but he seems awful young and inexperienced in the RV industry. I hope he’s about the quality and wasn’t a former Wall Street acquisition manager and it’s all about squeezing out profit.

So a major quality system measure is ISO 9000 certification. When will Newmar be ISO 9000 certified?
