Why don't you mention the Behringer UMC404HD?
Your content helps people. Thanks!
thank you :)
feel free to share on social media!
Thank you for this video, very informative! ❤️
Glad it was helpful!
You should have edited the title to 'Best Budget Audio Interfaces'
250-299 USD isn't a budget interface though.
@@generalawareness101 He presented all the low-budget interfaces. Though it's his personal opinion, it is not rational to claim interface like Focusrite Scarlett 2i2 3rd gen or Presonus Audiobox USB 96 as the best audio interfaces in 2020. Yeah, they are the best budget interfaces or even good for any starter.
@@abdullahalmehedi He presented 250 and a 299 USD as being a budget and honestly the industry considers (this isn't up to his opinion on what is or isn't this is industry wide) budget as 200 USD or less. Mid range beins greater than 200 up to 250-275 and past that point it is considered getting expensive and past 500 is considered expensive prosumer stuff and 1k USD plus is professional quality.
@@generalawareness101 If it got 8 inputs it IS. How he can put the NI interface here is beyond me.. its 2 in/out at the double price and no better than the Presonus, wich has midi in out and much more robust build quality. Only thing you miss in the presonus is a couple meters and a spdif connection if you have some gear with digital i/o.The 192khz is prety irrelevant. It only ads extra load on your pc processing it, makes files bigger and no detectable difference unless you are 10 years old and still have perfect hearing, and even then its practically not detectable. There is absolutely NO idea in tracking in higher than 48Khz/24bit mode, and most won't be able to hear the diff comming from 44.1khz/16bit either. The reasons to go so high is highly theoretic nerd talk about the levels of different harmonic distortions and how high lvl they are, and the fact is that theoretically the human ear isn't sensible enough to hear these small levels anyway even with lower sample rates than CD quality.
So for those that wonder .. just set your gear for 44.1 or 48khz/16. You save valuable processing power and disk space that can be used for more tracks and more effects if you like most others don't have a Threadripper with 32 corees and 256gb ram ...
@@generalawareness101 I mean… sure, but the video was titled “the best” not “the best budget/midrange”
You rock thanks for adding value to my studio! #Rock #studio
you are welcome :)
I have Steinberg UR II mk. It is really perfect!!
i have ur12 and i am thinking of upgrading.. can you record stereo with ur22 mk2?
Superb.
Need a list of only interfaces which have spdif inputs for people, like me, who have separate preamps with digital conversion already taken care of
I use Focusrite Scarlett MONO it’s the 2i2’s little brother but it’s really good!
I still use 2 ews88mt with windows 7 64 bit, i also run a terratec 88 phase rack FW on a windows 7 32 bit machine, both work like a charm, , they can com pete with any of the new kids in town. What counts is latency and quality!
I ditched Scarlett 2i2 for Umc22 and cash, later i got E-mu 1616m...and now i want to buy another as a spare.
Using scarlett for awhile and made 8 songs. It’s great but upon upgrading to audient in my experience Audient’s preamps are way more nice to me than scarlett
audient much better! id4 the best choise on the market.
I went from the 2i2 to the Audient id14 & I love it! My tracks seem much warmer with the Audient...
Yeah. Popularity is not an indication of quality. The Scarlett is great but the Audient is better.
Thanks for the heads up. Am planning the same jump.
Great review Dexx ! whats your opinion for Mackie Onyx artist 1.2 ? im thinking about getting either the Mackie or Focusrite Scarlet Solo 3rd gen. thanks in advance
The Tascam is no doubt the best on this list, especially in terms of sound.
I use iD14 on my iPad, works well with Auria Pro.
I use ios thnx
hey daniel can you make a video of you using the id14 with ur ipad thanks
hahaha nice video Dexxter
thanks bro :)
Great review. Any thoughts on Audient's new Evo4?
no not really
its interesting but i feel like the whole appeal of audient is the console level converters and preamps in a small form interface
Your Spanish is on point
I have the scarlet 8i6 first gen and it has amazing sound quality I love it
Which One Is Best For Singing??
Music Producers? FFS - 2 input channels?
I'll wait for USB4.
you should
Last row here :) Tascam US-16 X 08
What do you like and/or dislike about the Tascam?
petar dabic how is it ?
@@DexxterClarkMusic I like the simplicity and quality of the preamps - it can go really loud! I'd say that I miss (rather then I don't like) more HI-Z inputs and maybe one more headphone output. That's why I'm planing to switch to a newer 208i.
@@Anthonydmusic.21 It's great. You can really record up to sixteen channels simultaneously (great for drummers).
Hello from Russia! Thank you for the video, very informative. But what option do you think is suitable for recording vocals and electric guitars? Thank you.
the 2i2 works just fine!
Я никуя не понял, что брать, чтобы теребонькать в айфон?
Why is M-Audio Air 192/4 isn't there
Give numbers on latency, that is a must.
@We Spartacus Nothing to be with the subject.
Hey buddy. My dad wants to sing and play guitar, but have his own virtual band
He wants to control the keyboard, bass, drums.. footpedals.. sound mixers.. tempo, notes
What kind of software and hardware do i need to build it
I'm not a pro but you will need at least:
DAW
Sound Card
Mic
Keyboard
Bass
Electric Guitar
Drums
Amp for elec and bass guitar
TSR cable
Can we get an updated version for 2022
Nice guy. Thanks a lot. Understand Focusrite on 1# but Komplete on 2#!???
Me: Newbie,Bought Sennheiser Momentum 2 True Wireless earphones it has Blue Tooth 5.1
Since MP3 players with 5.1 BT are rare & $$$. Was told that I can use MP3 with Blue Tooth 4.2 & Sennheiser 5.1 BT with the SAME audio quality. Will use MP3 ,ONLY will listen to uploaded CZcams songs SHOULD I still try to find MP3 player with 5.1?? Thank YOU.
where's the SSL 2/2+ fit in there ?
Thanks for this video! I’ve been looking at the scarlet rite. Do u think it will work for M1?
It should, but I never tested it (I don't have a M1 mac)
Help! I bought a new MacBook Pro 2021 and my Scarlett 2i2 2nd Generation only has the regular USB A and my new Mac only has USB C. How do I work this? I was thinking a dongle or buying a USB type B to C to plug direct into my macBook to avoid latency but I have no idea if either will work or make latency worse...
usb b to c cable is the way to go.
a dongle is doing basically the same thing, but way more expensive
they missed the Creative SB0490
I have an AKAI EIE PRO but it has some problems...
I own focusrite scsrlet solo and i m disappointed. If i use phantom to record wotu my shure sm86 the resukt is bad as u can’t rrslly play witu the gaij. Even if u put it up to the limit the rusult is horrid and final volume is low. Any suggestions? Other brans??
What do you think about the Arrow UA please ?
Presonus Studiolive 16r, 24r, and 32r are insane full mixer interfaces, with full console mixer expandability. The best imo
I have music contents check me out
Audience id14 is a dubious Audio interface. Never dropped mine or had anything physically harmful happen to it. Suddenly the headphone jack stopped working. Secondly, it will randomly stop working because I suspect the software is unstable. I tried all the support stuff but this is just a risky investment. Take it from a guy who has it
Audient ID14 is the best of that list. I cant believe no one uses Behringer HD series (202, 204, 404). They are good and cheap, I put them over Scarletts.
behringer has a somewhat bad reputation in that audio industry, at least in the somewhat recent past, for using the designs (aka ripping off) of higher end brands, and were pretty low quality (but you get what you pay for basically), and their customer service is pretty bad (or at least that's what i've been told)
for better or for worse, behringer is just simply known as the "poor people's audio gear"
I am a singer and I am planning to buy my first interface. Can you help with suggesting the good interface out of these:
1. Steinberg UR22C
2. Audient ID4
3. Focusrite Scarlett 2i2
4. Steinberg UR22C
Note: I don't have a treated room.
Also, how about NI KOMPLETE AUDIO 1/2?
Steinberg no, Audient ID4 is the best of the list. I really like my Behringer HD202 even over Scarlett.
@@martins1254 why steinberg no?
@@martins1254 I'm between Focusrite and Steinberg, but I haven't decided yet. So an advice is received, please.
@@gersonsena630 focusrite has less noise floor.
I'm new to this and just purchased Cubase 10.5, but haven't installed it yet. So if I get one of these audio interfaces, I won't have to get an ASIO driver for my motherboard's built-in sound chip? Does the audio interface become my ASIO driver? Thanks.
for windows: yes. most interfaces come with proper drivers,
What about SSL 2+ ??
I honestly don't think there's anything like best . It's just like asking what's best between Toyota , Mercedes, Honda , ford etc. It all boils down to preference if you ask me. There's so many good audio interfaces out there
I totally agree with you ... but that is not what people are typing in the youtube search engine
@@DexxterClarkMusic oh great. The numbers most important lol I get it now
What do you use for your MIDI control for your computer as the Scarlet does not control MIDI?
I only use a USB midi keyboard. But MIDI controllers are mostly USB also nowadays
What You all think about of the Steinberg ur22? 👀
I'm not into Steinberg anymore after testing the UR28, which had really weird software and the build quality abominable
I have the focusrite solo 3rd gen but there is no sound output after connection. I uninstalled and reinstalled the drivers and Focus Control suite but no use. I even went to control panel sound settings and set focusrite as default but it still didn't work. Any suggestions?

Came for the review, stayed for the #metoo :P definitely earned the like and subscribe
5 best mid range. RME? Apogee?
What is the music card of Steinberg UR44C?Is there a delay and is it stable in operation?
There is always delay.
I had the UR28, I was not happy with the quality
What is the best for midi production?
doesn't matter
Do I need an audio interface if I only make electronic music without recording any instruments life? Thank you!
no you don't (watch some of my beginner videos).
just for connecting monitors, flat frequency response and recording
I am new in this field.
Question.
1.) When you said lowest latency; that means quickest signal traveling?
yes indeed. latency is delay.
less delay is indeed quicker signal traveling
@@DexxterClarkMusic just a favor, I want to use only a vocal and guitar channel so I guess it would be 2 channel.
With the lowest latency.
Wich would you recommend.
Great video. Any latency issues with the Komplete Audio 2?
No latency issues, solid piece of gear.
@@shawnriffninjareacts7316 On Windows or ios?
@@japanluv Windows
@@shawnriffninjareacts7316 Thanks. I got Ableton Live 10 and Push 2 with a Lenovo W530 i7 from 2013. Im trying to run away from Focusrite since seems to run better with iOS. So maybe this NI komplete audio 2 is a good choice after all:D
Hi. thank you for your detialed video. still confusing: if I want to record classi cguitar and voice singing and I also have midi keyboard that I want to use when editing the file - is the focusrite still fits? also can you do a video of picrophones?
yes it does perfectly.
Yes I can :)
I have a Classical Nylone String Flamenco Type Guitar.
It has AUX (big one) port and it has Fishman thing in it.
What kind of Iterface (external audio card) i need to plug my guitar to my desktop PC?!?!?!?!?
I've always had issues with Focusrite products through FL Studio.. I can't get it to record at all! Like it just does not pickup any Input signals..
I went through the settings, matched the sample rates, etc but nah just doesn't wanna work aye. I had to sell it.. Sucks because it had better specs than my M-Track II
thanks for sharing
How about the Behringer U-Phoria UMC404HD Sound Card? Any review on that sound card
no not yet
Save money for Motu M2 :)
Don't waste you're money on it. The preamps are very noisy
If these sound cards have no plugins for midi controller then where I install midis then?
I'm new in this.
usb port, only old equipment still has midi ports
What about komplete audio 6
for exclusive use with live VST playing with controller, is there a difference in sound quality from a cheap card to a guy???
to a guy?
In principle a live situation or non-live in a linear daw should be the same
Do you really need a midi connection on the interface if you are only going to use it for vinyl and guitar
no you don't, only if you have older midi equipment (the modern ones all have usb nowadays)
i have server motherboard w/o soundcard. will one of these work for me?
total overkill, but sure!
Where is evo 4?
What about M-Audio M-track 2X2 , I guess it has better preamps than focusrite ?
@C Pryme oh okay ..... Who are you? Quincy Jones? 😂
Does an interface fix dpc latency issues in a computer like hp omen ?
depends.
it can lower latency especially with usb 3 or thunderbolt, or RME interfaces.
but if there is a problem in your computer, then no
what about the motu m2 or m4 ? been getting good reviews on them.
this is what others recommend
Was thinking the same thing. Probably too new for people to recommend yet... I'm getting the M4 as soon as they become available again.
@@John3701 I got the Motu M4 and I have to wait a month but I'm very happy with it, way better than the Focusrite and more expensive ones.
@@carlosserrano3985 Are you on Windows? I got a Lenovo W530 Windows 10 and Push 2 with Ableton Live 10. Would you recommend it?
@@japanluv Yes I'm on Windows 10 with Studio One Pro as my DAW and my Motu M4 Is working good on my PC, I think the Motu M2 or M4 Is a excellent interface that offers good quality preamps, low EIN, high dynamic range, very good lcd metters, MIDI I/O, good construction and something so basic that any gear should have, an on/off switch.
But it's up to you and your budget, they are difficult to get because they sell so fast.
Im a newbie, so could you tell me, what sound card would suit it if i wanna create music connecting a MIDI keyboard (Novation Launchkey49) to my laptop DAW (Cubase)
pick on in the top 5 with a midi connection
you don't need audio interface for midi keyboard... just connect it to your pc.......
dude. what are those pads under your speakers and what do they do???
those are aurelex pads (forgot the official name)
And they do very little according to my neighbour :)
Prevent my desk from resonating with the speakers, they should prevent my desk from becoming a giant speaker with certain freqiencies.
Steinberg ur22 has all the goodies
I need to get one how can I get it
there are affiliate links to amazon in the description
i own a m-audio FAST TRACK C400, should i switch to any of these? thanks
Depends, what do you think to gain?
Dexxter Clark mainstream quality. Im happy with it though
What is about the Motu M2?
I have music contents check me out
how about yamaha ur22c
Is the 2i2 not plug and play on Windows 10? Thx.
Yes it is, but you need to install drivers for your DAW
So are u saying for the scarlett 2i2 i cant jus plug in my computer? Basically use ot for fl studio
yes for mac, no for windows (Although it works out of the box with windows)
@@DexxterClarkMusic I'm confused what do you mean
No love for the motu m2 or m4, I thinks it's better than any of the ones you mention
apparently not everyone agrees
In which regard is it better in your opinion?
@@DexxterClarkMusic czcams.com/video/D3ednXYd1pA/video.html
But what about your opinion?
Agreed. No need to take this test seriously. The Motu M4 / M2 is the best budget option hands down. Leaving it out show that you are not up to date.
You guys sissies?? Cribbing about not mentioning a piece of gear, why don't you make a video and talk about it yourself? I didn't find my Behringer umc 202 in this list. Complaining about it is childish
answer please. the interface is it working 120v or 220 cuz in my home only 220v ?
with a usb powered interface you don't have to think about that.
It is all up to the power brick if it handles 120 or 220v.
They sell probably the right powerbrick for your country as they did with me and the Audient id14
@@DexxterClarkMusic man thank you a lot another Question. can i use the komplete kontrol 49s mk2 and the dt 770 with out interface ? because it cost me a lot, im going to order it now from thomann
But it has issues with the sound. Mine started playing mono. Disappointed in Focusrite.
mine does not.
It is the only sound card that works on my weird usb-handicapped mac
If you want the midi outputs just upgrade to the Focusrite 4i4. I was tricked into thinking these interfaces had such great preamps So I got the Focusrite 2i2. I'm not a newbie so I know how my stuff is supposed to sound. Luckily I still had my old equipment so I was just going to add my mic preamp & realized there weren't any ports left because I had my monitors plugged into the back of the interface, so I got to throw away $230 on the 4i4 just for 2 ports, smfh man...#DISGUSTED
The 2i4 has midi 5 pin din outs so no need to upgrade to the 4i4.
Do I need an audio interface if I’m just recording vocals and sending them to someone to mix?
yes, take at least a cheap one like the focusrite, the soundcard in your PC ect. is bad für recording and it will take to much power of your PC. Cheap but OK Interfaces are just 70-130 dollars.
No, but to get a decent quality and more flexibility (like direct monitoring) yes.
Best one with amazing sound quality is the Apollo Twin
I use fl studio 20 does anyone know which sound card they reccomend???
any card that sounds good :)
Bought a focusrite clarett. It broke down today for no reason after a year of use … 🤷♂️
Yeah, I have problems with my 2i2 since the releas of this video too
I'm not behind my own video anymore ;)
my 2i2 gave up on me today as well
@@javibeats174 mine should be repaired under warranty so i hope it stays that way!🙏🍀
I need a cheap one that can replace ASIO4ALL. Do you know any cheaper (below £100 if possible) audio interfaces?
nothing replaces ASIO4ALL

Dexxter Clark I managed to find a work around to get desktop audio and studio one at the same time by using voicmeeter
Same interfaces since 2015. Why doesn’t this technology evolve?
Audio interfaces definitely evolve, his list is just limited. Just got my first focusrite interface, the 18i20. Will test it soon
Dude doesn’t even mention UAD, find another recommendation
Trey McDermott probably because of price point, I have the arrow and it’s definitely the best beginner interface, but the price point is not that affordable if you are just starting out and need to buy a mic, monitor speakers, headphones, maybe a computer, etc, I think thats the reason
He didn’t add the New SSL
Tech Gaming ID14 is good too, Audient makes good stuff
Is sound card and audio interface the same?
yes.
Audio interface is a fancier name that music producers like to use.
Some producers that don't know a lot about computers think there is a difference.
Is an interface needed for latency problems
to be clear: audio interface and sound card are the same thing, it is just a nicer word.
Although some vocal, less-tech savvy music producers seem to be under the impression otherwise.
All sound cards have latency.
But some more than others.
Choose a low-latency sound card.
Often latencies are mentioned with the specs of a sound card.
But if you introduce a lot of latency in your daw with a lot of plugins (lookahead of compressors for examples), even the best sound card in the world can't help you latency wise.
For audio quality, Audient vs Focusrite, i'll go for AUDIENT .. Focusrite's 192khz sample rate is not a big thing for me, it's not even really noticeable to most people. Sample rate, for me, is just like frame rate on videos which having too much is not so pleasing that's why 24fps is the most recommended for cinematic video shots. 96khz sample rate of audient is the right range for me. PLUS, the audients high quality preamp, it is comparably quieter than the focusrite. The focusrite is a bit bright for me. I love the smooth sound of AUDIENT.
I wanted to watch this video but it look like you didn't cover the MOTU M2 the one I bought 2 months and have been enjoying very much since. Why didn't you cover this one?
because this video covers the most sold sound devices that producers recommend
Dexxter....please put in the comment section> a link where you can buy a MOTU M2....none to be found. Why???Because if one views multiple reviews on CZcams about USB audio interfaces, you discover MOTU M2 is the the ALPHA male in the herd.
@@DexxterClarkMusic The Motu M2/M4 are sold out aimost everywhere, I have to wait a month to get my M4, they are better than the Focusrite and some more.
Antelope makes the number one interface. Antelope Discreet 8 Synergy Core and Orion Studio Synergy Core. Also they are no longer listed or marketed as sound cards, but as audio interfaces.
I have the Audient iD14 and that USB 2 is definitely not compatible with newer Macs with the T2 chip and the newer Thunderbolt ports. You'll hear glitches and sudden pauses if you are running audio out the Audient. I also plugged the Audient iD14 to the 2009 Mac Mini's USB-A port and it doesn't even receive signals back from the DAW. Very unfortunate to an otherwise great little audio interface.
Thanks for the info!
Hey it is not compatible with windows 10
Rigo Cornejo that’s weird
I make electronic music with ableton and Im at the point were my computers cpu is begginning to struggle with the more complex parts of my arrangement so I want to buy a soundcard to fix this. The only hardware I will use is a mic and midi controller.. does anyone have any reccomendations? I use SHP9500 headcphones atm which dont have a high impedenece but from what Im told it will be improved with a dac... ideally Id like something portable too
you can buy the most expensive soundcard there is, but it won't fix your problem.
You need a faster computer or render everything out
@@DexxterClarkMusic thanks, been reading a lot since i commented and learned just as much, I was under the impression that a better soundcard took a lot of the load off the cpu. My laptops I5, sounds like changing the sample rate, deactivating plugins and or bouncing to audio is the best solution
All over the internet the people are saying the focusrite isn‘t good for windows... the drivers aren‘t that good and you get a blue screen the whole time .... is that true? I am considering buying it but i need to know that before i buy it
I've had it connected to my windows machine, no problems yet
but i hear the complaints too
With the 2nd gen I have this happen every now and then
Yes I own two and both had the most random issues and it does inconsistently. Trash product and not reliable.
And it has given me blue screens. What I've learned just looking at the complaints and stuff is that there's a weird issues when it comes to it and windows 10.
Neither companies have come up a solution to fix whatever bug it is.
Get a 3rd gen and you'll be fine, the driver issues have been mostly fixed
@@back2onett good to know!
When your good your good hey m sure any interface sounds better then record to your phone then holding it up to your laptop then re recording it into daw and trying to mix that my goodness I'm really sure so my point I hope u get me
oops I do that
i want a sound card that improves my PC sound quality. these sound cards are only better for recordings on high quality.
it has nothing to do with the computer output sound.
not true ,the audio is generated by the sound card probably at higher resolutions than a on-board sound card.
But for the untrained ear it's hard to hear indeed, especially when you aren't using studio monitors but regular speakers
@@DexxterClarkMusic I have been making music for 10 yrs now. I use scarlett solo & I barely got any better quality than my motherboard.
it's not crisp clear. at least before any windows laptop had better sound than this MB. can you please suggest me what will be the best option ?
pci sound cards or external ones ? please recommend me one external interface.
i think you mean the output converter. or known as DAC(digital to Analog(your speaker) converter)
there is only one way to know is to go try it yourself at the shop. bring your best headphone that you use for audio work. lists of music you like.
and go try before upgrade or spend anything.

(oh year, decent headphones/speakers..)
Why oh WHY didn't Presonus just rework the FireStudio Mobile to use USB 3.x instead of discontinuing it!? Still the all-time best A.I. for the price / footprint.
what do you think about UR22C?
Yeah it's weird he didn't mention any Steinberg product , a lot of pros liked UR22C more than 2i2 gen 3
