Daft Punk's new video 'Instant Crush' is out now.
The combined talents of DJs Guy-Manuel de Homem-Christo and Thomas Bangalter, the pair's first projects together included Darling, a voiceless indie cover band; their current recording name derives from a review in U.K. music weekly Melody Maker of a compilation tape Darling were featured on, released by Krautrock revivalists Stereolab (their lo-fi D.I.Y. cover of a Beach Boys song was derided as "daft punk"). Subsequently ditching the almost inevitable creative cul-de-sac of rock for the more appealing rush of the dancefloor, the pair released their debut single, "The New Wave," in 1993 on the celebrated Soma label. Instantly hailed by the dance music press as the work of a new breed of house innovators, the single was followed by "Da Funk," the band's first true hit (the record sold 30,000 copies worldwide and saw thorough rinsings by everyone from Kris Needs to the Chemical Brothers).

Glad they ditched the hair.
I disagree although it does make them look like Start Lord.
Hmm. . .
It looked cool
It would of worked if they used it on their Homework tour when they were teens.
They was bout to have bro really look like a kpop artist I mean nun wrong with that but it just didn’t fit their style
Very glad
you know I could watch a two hours documental about this
Yeah, me too
If anyone hasn't yet seen, Netflix has a great Daft Punk documentary
Unchained? I think its only available in th UK and its made by the BBC worldwide France
You know your shit dude
thamks
Of course this gets recommended to me just after they split up.
Im confused........ Epilogue video pieces are in this video from 7 years ago....... Am i missing a video they put out in the desert?
@@anthonyp2312 Yea I am also very confused.
Never mind I found it and It is odd czcams.com/video/ySLc8gZ3oEc/video.html&ab_channel=ElectromaMV
If you couldn’t tell there were 2 videos before epilogue, I think it was 2 videos
@@anthonyp2312 the epilogue was actually a piece from their movie "Electroma", which was released in 2006
I love daft punks characters so much it's so unique

So many other sci-fi related things from the dawn of the millennium have aged horribly, but Daft Punk’s helmets have always looked cool and timeless
It's on my bucket list to see them perform live before I die.
Yeah should be on pretty much everyone's bucket list who even remotely considers himself a fan :D ^^
@@interact940 but when are they going to perform live again 😭
@@chrollo4836 yeah that's still the big question mark :)
Dat Part alive 2017

Shut up and to da chopper
Except they have shown there face before
ARTIEGUS yea
ARTIEGUS *their*
*takes off helmet*
*reveals smaller version of helmet underneath*
these guys are fucking visionary
What surprise and confuses me about this is... the money they must paid (I don't care how much) just for creating some helmets and suites, without being like.. a direct investment. Is not like they were putting that money on a new album directly, it was just to create a costum they wanted for them, a look, that maybe nobody would be interested in, maybe neither on their new album. But somehow they didn't care about that and they went and took the risk and paid probably a lot to develope this dozen of helmets and costumes, and they had only launched 1 big album at that time (Homework). "Sorry for bad english"
nosecomosellama they knew they were going to be suscessfull
exactly this. a huge risk for sure but thats why I think they are so visionary. they have this concept and they run with it 100% because they believe in what they do. I think part of this commitment to their art is a huge part of their success and is definitely a huge reason why I love them.
Well because in all of art forms you don't always do capital risk. It's about innovating or trying things.
Also they had 3 albums before Electroma I believe Homework, the remix one of 1997 and Discovery.
The first helmets allong with the leds' and stuff was 65.000$ for both of them
Now, the helmet gimmick influenced the likes of Marshmello and Deadmau5. Truly revolutionary.
Check out our latest #Daft Punk - 'Behind The Helmets' #documentary, an insight into the helmets that make the legends #TGIF
Pharrell Williams ...
lol
what daft punk should do now with their helmets is being back those damn LEDs!!! cause they were so neeeeeeeeeeaaaaat!!
this Bubbly Goodness I believe the LED matrix overheated and posed a safety risk.
yeah, not to mention loss of visual sight, seeing past the lights would have been rather horrible as well
Technology has come a long way in 20 years. I'm sure they could implement some of those new paper thin curved displays into their head piece.
this Bubbly Goodness jeez this comment is 3yrs old damn haha
They could maybe utilize the same technology from Deadmau5's LED Mau5head
Living in a Miley-Cyrus-TMI-Twitter-info-overload age, I'm thankful for #DaftPunk. I know nothing about these two men, except for their music, and I'm perfectly happy with that.
you could just switch off your whatever device and read a book
I know an okay amount from the few interviews they have granted. They talk a lot more about the music than anything else, which is good.
that would not change global culture
mirrored sentiments
looks like a tweet on a youtube video.
I really wish Daft Punk would do concerts again. That is one thing I wanna do before I die. Is see them perform.
well... about that

Farewell, old friends. ✊
Finally, a daft punk video that hasn't been flooded with 'WHO'S HERE AFTER THE BREAKUP??? :'( '
You have become the very thing you swore to destroy
Long live Daft punk
These guys were in 2018 before everyone else.
Had a great run. I'm blessed I lived in a time when I could listen to this band
I’m so annoyed they never made official helmets to sell for the fans! I wanted a Guy-Manual helmet so badly.
You would probably have to have some deep pockets to buy one
Dude they cost 65k$ to make
@@hikari69 you could definitely make one for under $1000
where was the alcohol promotion part !!!?

Mr. Tony Gardner, you've outdone yourself and you're a genius
Amazing what technology they got way back, it is impressive even for today standards. Imagine what they can do today with the new technologies available. I just have to love all the mysteriousness around the robot persona.
So amazing,it's crazy cool to see how the helmets evolved.
I didn't know that messi was making helmets
Sarah Ray he’s got quite thin don’t ya think
Sarah Ray that was why he let them use the chucky robot!
Lol
good job Mixmag putting this together
I always wondered the story behind them thank you for posting this.
It's amazing how precise Daft Punk were in their vision, that really separates them from the rest.
Still makes me wonder how the duo could breathe in their helmets
Thomas’ helmet had vents in the underside of his visor, and he also had the mouth slit on the face to breathe through, but I haven’t seen any ventilation points in Guy-Man’s helmet, so I’m not sure how it was for him
Interesting I can imagine Guy Man's helmet gets sweaty and stinky inside lol
LEGEND!!!
Thanks for The awesome vid!
Legends for a reason
I'm not sad, you're sad.
Thanks for the journey, safe trip back to space
2021: Daft Punk is over... 💔
two of the most iconic helmets in the music industry!
really a nice job here :3 thx for this :3
RIP Daft punk
Legend ❤
¡Increíble!
Fantastic
I love that first song
the song is Touch me - warning Pixels
Crazy cool
I always wondered where the Technologic robot went. I wonder where the girl from the Prime Time of Your Life is?
The technologic robot was chucky without his skin on.
+Dr Ivo Robotnik Really?
Ograws The girl has an IMDb page, I don't know what she does now, but I do know there were 2 girls playing the one.
FUCKING DEAD.
My question is how did they see through the leds on the helmet?
From what I understand, the LEDs were individually punched through a see-through material (a plastic or a stiff mesh of sorts), and the guys looked through the gaps between the LEDs. It’s not the most efficient way to see, but after adjusting to the helmet, it would be manageable.
Pure industrial design artistry
the technologic robot OMG!
I remember seeing your Magezines with Daft Punk before the become androids, pretty cool
super cool
There’s a part of me wishes they kept the hair!
May faverate daft punk design was the one they did in Tron legacy
Literally all about their helmets...
I dig it
Didn't one of them (Daft Punk) say in an interview that the helmet have some other things in them like cooling or communication?
I'm a tad late- but yes. During Discovery there was very poor ventilation in both of the helmets and it was extremely hot in the both of them, they even had to cut holes underneath the visor on Thomas' helmet to make sure that he didn't suffocate. Later on Guy's helmet had the "jaw" extended so he could actually breathe better. Also, fans were put in so they didn't literally die of a heat stroke.
Plus on top of that it was incredibly difficult to see out of with the LED matrix (apparently it's like looking through a thick mesh door, not the hardest thing to do but certainly not pleasant in the slightest) and the fact that the screens were tinted and dark. IIRC there were issues with it and they could barely see through them, plus it was like a window on a limousine. You can't see inside as long as it's darker inside than it is outside. In the sketches it showed small pinholes that they could see through, but it was basically useless considering that there was a huge board of LEDs in front of their eyes, plus a tinted screen on top of that.
And *also* they couldn't talk through them, as their voices would be so incredibly muffled and quiet due to how thick the helmets are. (And I believe that they had something on under it?)
I assume that they were also miserable to constantly polish, clean, etc. because every time your fingers touched the surface, there would be a fingerprint.
In short, props to Guy and Thomas for surviving through that. No wonder why the LEDs really only were seen in a few photoshoots and for less than 5 years.
3:25 omg same shots of the epilogue!
Better watch over your back. Big music is on to us.
Epilogue is a scene from their movie Electroma
Man, I was born in 2001 so I live with their music So I was so happy to know find out who they were called and from fact the silver one that actually makes me like robots I actually want to make a helmet of that but unfortunately I don't know how or you know how this so much you really glad that these people are explaining it man just memory lane Oliver again rest in peace stuff punk you are always and will be my favorite I don't know what music to call it? But it's up there!
Long live Daft Punk!
Cool.
What if they get itchy?
Martin Catindig rip
Scratch their helmets
They won’t cuz they’re robots
In this case they are gonna commit a suicide, you know there is an explosion mechanism in this costume
"Hey Guy?"
"Wha, Thomas?"
"My, uhh, my nose itches."
"Thomas, go to the bathroom and take your helmet off. I'm liking Tron."
I really want their gloves

Yo at 3:28 is that not film from the video they just put out a week ago announcing the split up.
The the film is called Electroma, and it was released on 2006. The Epilogue, is just a part of the movie.
It does make me think to the old 80s japanese serie X-OR 2 .
Bioman and Spielvan helemet are pretty close too ^_^
if the lights are in the helmet, how do they see through them?

Bro looks like if Tom Holland and Messi combined eachother.

I kinda like the hair
They remind me of a disco group from the late 70's called Space with the helmets.
Same scene from the new Epilogue video they posted today Feb 22, 2021
Cut to minute 3:29
*:,((*
It's from their movie: electroma
Theyre like beneficent steel angels
The helmets aRE THEIR HEADS
i just wish it wasn't so expensive to get one of these helmets
DanDan Plays Music you can make one without the leds for less than $100.
It is expensive, but worth. You can buy one in volpin props
one of those helmets must definitely be at least inspired by helmets the cyclone pilots wore in the classic anime ROBOTECH : Next Generation
0:48 Oh god... It's that thing from that one song... *Shudder*
Now I might be reading too deeply into this, but with the red live-wire they wanted, he said
"They'd have to have an all black version of their robot selves."
Now, personally, when watching the Alive 2007 set, during the last song/the encore, especially when the lights were strobing onto them, it seemed like (specifically Thomas') went from that Shiney Chrome silver, to a darkened, nearly matte black. So while it sadly does kinda suck the fun out of it, if what I think is right, I don't think they would've been able to change out of their outfits within' seconds to a few minutes between the Finalle, and the Encore. Which makes me come back to, while if correct, means either they never were on that Pyramid to begin with, or they switched out with two other people just at the end.
But thats probably me just thinking too deeply and overthinking like I typically do.
3:26 were those images from the Epilogue video?
I think the same!!!!
How is it possible?
@@federicopierri4022 I had to look it up, the Epilogue video is actually a clip from their 2006 movie Electroma, which I didn’t know about and will definitely check out

Reply to this comment saying "Like beggars suck" if you hate like beggars.
Is it me or the helmets have gotten smaller and the the top of Thomas' head is shorter and Guy's have become more simplified in shape. Idk. I just hope they make the perfect mix of the Discovery and R.A.M helmets for their next ablum. The proportions and shiny textures of R.A.M but the LED lights of Discovery and Thomas' little smile.
Rip Daft Punk 1993-2021🙌🏽
