god i would be so insanely stressed out if i laid in bed and i could hear rats moving about in my home.. i would get no sleep and be SO stressed out
This is why im never buying something shared with other people's houses or have separate responsibilities
You don't have to have shared walls to share rats

@@tom11zz884 true but then you can CONTROL how quickly you want them removed and also can take steps to prevent them getting back in the house, but 1. finding the entry points using a trail camera or UV glowing powder 2. cover the holes with Copper mesh (not steel) 3. Put traps on the outside the house where the holes used to be
also NEVER buy a condo, apartment or house that is part of an HOA community (the HOA fees are inflated as you are paying an HOA management company, and the prices rise every few years), and they have total control over your place, including not allowing people to fly the American flag (including Veterans).
You always send evidence/documentation of the issue along with the number they can reach your attorney at, should they have additional questions. Repairs will happen much quicker.

THAT! I was thinking for less than grooming that dog that lets rats run rampant she could have had a decent lawyer rattle off a letter outlining THEIR options to solve this issue
The comment on HOH ignoring common area damage or deficiencies certainly was true in my case. Ankle deep in water on my parking stall with picture and photos and yet the HOH said it was normal and I was being difficult. I eventually sold the condo.
Stuff like this is why I stopped messing with apartment/condos.

The problem is is I can buy a condo for 115,000 but the cheapest house I can buy is 250,000
And both would need entire renovation

They say if you release a rat or mouse within a few miles from where you got em they will simply find their way back. They have much better noses than dogs.

Seeing her cry made me think about my mom when we had a rat problem in our house. Man I watched my mom cry so much. Kid me making little traps to catch them that use to bring joy to her heart. I honestly enjoy catching them and just sitting them in a bucket under the sun outside

I had a mouse problem (about 11 mice in my house) and that was a nightmare to deal with, I can't imagine how horrible rats must be, like they are 100% more destructive and disease carrying. No wonder the poor lass was so upset.

Mice carry the same plus additional health concerns. As a matter of fact rats will kill mice with some biologists saying they speculate it is to eliminate some of the viruses that they vector
We used to breed both for snake breeders to feed their stock and the mice were 10 times messier, way less personable and more aggressive towards new breeding stock

Huge downside of multi family housing (townhomes, apartments, condos, etc) are that if 1 person develops a pest or rodent problem, everyone has a pest/rodent problem... and unless everyone gets treated at one time, it will always come back.

We had a rotting board in our shower, down on the farm. A very large King Snake would drop by on any given morning, I guess to enjoy the warm Water. He was a very nice snake, ...enjoyed his visits on some levels. We had Zero mice... LOL.

Ok folks, buying a condominium is tough. You probably won't notice the problems in the common areas. This complex has a serious maintenance problem Are there reserves, or will there be an assessment once the board even agrees to do repairs. How do you review the documents to determine if the reserves are adequate and maintenance is up to date. Good luck.
It is worse here in Florida. There are new laws requiring more extensive inspections, and more adequate reserves. The inspections may find problems, both will raise condo fees. Insurance renewals will double or triple. If you don't knpw the fees, what is the value of the condo.

awesome vid guys! how many sq ft? it this case it won't be bullet proof but i would have invested in 2 or 3 cats. over time that should at least deter the majority. rats have a deep psychological draining effect on humans in these situations.

I'd like to know what your opinion is on pet doors. I work nights and I have one cat that has little panic attacks if he doesn't have his pet door. We've had rats come in they haven't nested or left droppings but have urinated in certain areas. This apartment complex has had rat problems. My bottom line question is, is there any way to keep the rats away from the pet door?

I'm in the UK. We live close to farmland and for 17 years we didn't see a single rat. In the last 4 years we've seen several and heard noises in the roofspace above our kitchen. Several people locally said that they were living in an old farm building on local farmland. We figured out where they were getting in, through the kitchen extraction hood outlet just under the roofline, and sealed the gap with a ball of chicken wire. We did have a guy from our local council come out to set bait traps as there were more rodents than I could shake a stick at. I asked him if rats could jump and he said no. A few weeks ago I caught a juvenile in my deluxe brass finished steel cage trap (from our local family run 'we sell everything you could possibly need' ironmonger/diy shop) The pesky rodents love a raw Atlantic prawn via Asda and raw cumberland sausages via the local butcher. I can't bring myself to kill them so I serve canapés. I was getting ready to return my unwelcome friend to the local farmland when I accidentally tipped the cage at ground level. Within 2 seconds the little blighter launched itself up over my head and using the compost bin like a vaulting platform it shot around the side wall of the house, 6 feet in the air, and vanished😮😂

Another usefully idea I found is mix peanut butter with superglue and put it on the trap to dry. works like a charm

We have pack rats here, but they normally stay out in the desert. There are some field mice as well, but I have no problem with that.😊 And yes I did live in a condo. That’s the kind of crap you have to deal with now. Thank God I live in a house.😊

Wow. I live in an HOA but it is detached houses. Our new HOA is much more chill compared to the old one. However, I want to either live in a community with schools and stores in it or just separate land away from an HOA.

We have had those Norway giant rats! They ate thru everything! They are huge… I used soft chew baits and I handed them out to my neighbors because they was running us out! They ate our plants, our wires, they climbed up pipes, under foundations across fences and power lines. They are insanely big like small dogs!
Never buy a condo. I cannot imagine the stress that woman has endured...

I’m a trapper of 20 years in the Tampa area. I have to ask do you charge for your initial inspection/ assessment? I ask because I do free inspections but it’s becoming more common for “customers” to be looking for a free blueprint to pass along to an inexpensive handyman ( especially if the inspection is for a management company). Yes, sometimes they will then fail to resolve the issue and I’m contracted after they’ve created trap shy populations and then I have globs of expansion to cut out of openings to properly seal.
It makes it harder and harder to be thorough in the initial inspection instead of just calculating approximate cost to trap out and seal, then if contracted do the Sherlock Holmes work… thoughts?

man, I wish you guys operated in Albany NY. Have been dealing with mice in a rental property. Couple companies came out and sealed “all” entry point but still have some activity. Problem is the house is connected to another house…IE row house. So may be some spots in that adjoining wall.

I've read a couple of times that in built-up areas you are never more than ten feet away from a rat, is that about right or is it an exaggeration by vermin killers to drum up business ?

I had to put screws up thru the bottom to make spikes in the kill zone because the large traps were not killing them.
Id be doing SOMETHING to address it even if its juat temporary. Stuff with chicken wire and expandable foam.
This is why I removed every tree or bush that was near my house where squirrels or other animals could climb up and onto my house. The maintenance is so lacking at that condo. It is really sad.
