A BIG Thank you to CST for allowing me to create their launch product promo for the CST Sahara ATM tyres. These tyres are first to enter South Africa, and it was only right to share my initial impressions of these tyres by taking them on an African adventure.
The results are very very surprising. With a 50 / 50 split between on road and off road these tyres are up to the task. Let's put it this way, the CST brand are definitely doing something right with these tyres, and I look forward to bringing you a full review of just how well they hold up to the type of driving that I do. So far, I am happy with them as a replacement, to tyre brands that just aren't affordable to me. Also, great to work with a company that appreciates the value that the 4x4ventures brand creates and brings to the community and products. Looking forward to the next one legends.

Awesome mate, and you know it’s only a pleasure legend. I am very keen to see how well these tyres hold up. If they do, then I think we will have a solid option with these. I’m still keen to try their muds though. Have you seen them? Probably the most aggressive, road legal set of muds I’ve seen. They look amazing and I want a set for sure 😂

Do you feel any major difference in terms of performance from your previous Set to these 265?
Good to have some new competition to the usual suspects I think. Will be interesting to see how their bike tyre experience translates to automotive. Great review mate!

@@4x4ventures_southafrica Found the local dealer. ATMs are not here in Dubai yet. However he said for my use the Sahara AT2 will be good enough. What is your opinion of the tires so far after a few months of use?
Thank you for the follow up. I have done just over 13,000 Kms on them, and at least 7000 Kms of really really hard compact corrugated and mountainous terrain. My opinion, for what it’s worth, is that this tyre is very very strong. Almost too strong. The compound could have been 8% softer IMO, which would have a great overall impact to the already good traction. The only reason I say this is because the ride can feel a tad bit hard with tyre pressures over 1.8 BAR. Once the tyres are deflated however, they come into their own. Robust and all round very very surprising in a good way. Overall, they have surprised me. For the price they were going to come into South Africa for, the main, leading brands would have sat up to take notice. As for the wear of this tyres, I think it’s only fair to get to 25,000 Kms to give my full unbiased review. Take care and enjoy the adventure 🤙
@@4x4ventures_southafrica I did a bit of research. CST are the same as Maxxis. Actually they are the same company. Maxxis are the tire of choice of Ronny Dahl. So I suppose it would be easy to understand why the CST were as good as you say.
Yes, so CST is the “sister” company to MAXXIS. They use the same RnD team, the same production plant and rubber compounds. CST tyres have a great standing in Motorcross, ATVs, and Rock Crawling communities, so, some heritage and backing. Look, for me, tyre prices have become ridiculous, and with competitive pricing and a good tyre, I am excited for the overlanding and adventure enthusiast fraternities. If a set of CST SAHARA ATM tyres can get me 80,000 Kms, over a 3 to 4 year period, safely, then, and only then are they an exceptional tyre. Let’s see what happens. . . .

How would you compare them to the BFG KO2s? They seem to have slightly deeper thread.
Hi Jim, they have a much harder compound than the BFG KO 2s. They have the same build qualities, and their tred block patterns are much of a muchness. The tred blocks aren’t as deep as the ko2s, but they offer the same amount of traction. The only real difference is the price. These were going to retail at half the price of the BFs. A no brainer in my pov.
If looking at 13.03 in the video it seems to be a damage in Right back wheel, can you confirm and if? What and how?

Are you happy with that size on the ranger or would you prefer a slightly bigger tyre?
To be honest, this was the first set of CST Sahara ATM to roll off of the production line. This is the size that they will be bringing to market first. I have got a bigger size coming with some new rims, so hopefully a bigger set will be on soon. For me personally the bigger tyres would look better, but the current size has allot of positives. Less rolling resistance, way less noise, speedometer is now on point, fuel consumption is way better, and no loss in rolling power from the drive train. Allot of differences when you out on bigger tyres, and a really good learning experience for myself

Please be brutally honest when you use them long term, you know Botswana is flooded with Chinese brands like Kapsen(had horrible experiences with it) guys compared it to BFs, when you deflat them and then reflat they sometimes fail.
That is what I’m here for, and yes I will. Also, there is a big difference between a no name brand and CST Tyres international. MAXXIS and CST tyres come off of the same production floor, they both have the same rubber technology and design team behind them. Let’s see how they go. I am always cautious when selecting brands I work with, and hopeful that they continue to deliver a solid product for you, the consumer. All tyre brands have their issues, just some less than others.
Why would you buy a Chinese nock off tyre?
Why wouldn’t I try them, surely that’s my job to you? They cost half the price of the other brands and so far do everything that the other brands tyres do, just as good. As a full time CZcamsr I can’t afford the other brands, and I personally think competition is great, especially if I create an episode that gives you another option that ticks all the boxes at half the price. Nailing a market on pricing doesn’t suit anyone. If the Sahara ATMs turn out great for the long haul, why wouldn’t you buy them at half the price? Why are they knock offs mate? CST tyre manufacturing plant is the same as MAXXIS. Don’t live under the brand rock, it will leave your pocket broken, and eyes wide shut.
@@4x4ventures_southafrica for some of us who are also into cycling maxxis and CST have been dominating as opposed to continental !i really appreciate that they took this route!
