- In this things to know before visiting South Korea, we share everything you need to know before visiting the Asian country, including getting to South Korea, South Korea travel tips and what you need to know if you are visiting South Korea for the first time.
Korea Packing list
If you are starting to write your packing trip, there is a few things you need to remember to include. Firstly, an umbrella is essential, it can rain a lot in Korea but it is also common to use an umbrella to share yourself when walking in the hot sun. You will also need to bring some decent trainers or sneakers, you will be doing a lot of walking in the major cities but there are also some great hikes to chose from near Seoul. You may also want to bring some deodorant, you can find this in some drugstores but it expensive and rare to find. Ladies, I recommend carrying some tissue around with you, most restrooms are western but you will find some squat toilets in smaller villages. One more thing to pack is slippers, water shoes or a spare pair of flip flops. Most hotel rooms will not have a bath or enclosed shower, so it is worth having a pair of slippers just for the bathroom to avoid wet feet.
Korea apps
Before arriving, also download the google translate app and a currency converter. Not all restaurants, cafes and taxi drivers can speak English, so have a translate app will help you a lot. The currency in South Korean is Won so use a currency converter to check prices, especially when purchasing souvenirs or food in touristy areas.
Seoul
Seoul is the capital and many peoples firs choice when heading to the country. There are a lot of historic sites and incrusting experiences to be had here but don’t spend your whole visit in the city. Be prepared for crowds and congestion, Seoul is home to over 25 million residents; half of the countries total.
Seoul is also a great place for shopping wit endless malls but a massive variety of fashion, accessories and beauty stores. It is also a great place to try some new products; there are beauty and skincare products everywhere so try something new whilst you are in Korea.
Try the cafes. When in Seoul, you have to head to at least one of the amazing cafes in the city. With themed cafes, unique cafes, modern cafes and instagram worthy drinks to try, plan a visit during your trip.
Restaurant tips
When you are in a restaurant, it is common for servers to avoid interrupting you whilst you are eating. This means if you need something else, perhaps another drink or serving of something, you will need to wave or press the call button on your table.
Another thing to note in restaurants is the chopsticks. Koreans use metal chopsticks, which can be a little harder to use than wooden ones. However, you can use a spoon to eat rice and make sure you place your chopsticks back down on the table when you are finishing with them - do not leave them sticking up vertically out of your bowl.
Also, when you want to pay the bill, it is likely to already be on your table. Check the sides or underneath the table and pay at the payment stand; there is normally some type of sign or server behind a table.
Some other table manners to be aware of; our your elder’s drink before your own, do not blow your nose whilst sitting at a table, don’y pick up your bowl to eat and drink your soup before trying other dishes.

1. Korea is a homogeneous nation
Korea has only recently become famous abroad and is attracting more and more tourists. Most Koreans are awkward with foreigners!
- Korea is a Confucian culture. From an early age, we constantly learn to be considerate, humble, and respectful. That's why most Koreans don't discriminate!! (No country in the world is free from racism. Exceptions always exist)
In fact, Korea is the safest country for travelers and you will feel it when you come to Korea.
2. Koreans are perfectionists.
For a Korean to speak a foreign language, it is necessary to be able to converse at the level of a local! Most of the young people can speak English basicly!
- The reason foreigners feel unkind to Koreans is that Koreans 'can't help you perfectly in your language' (Of course, this is gradually improving 😀)
3. Most foreigners I see speak 100% native language in Korea. In Korea, when traveling abroad, I think it's polite to learn a little bit of the language of that country. But all the foreigners I have seen in Korea come to me in English or their mother tongue. Everyone, please respect Korean! If you come to Korea by studying at least a minimum of Korean, it will be a really enjoyable trip!

I had been hoping to travel to Japan and South Korea, but if going to S Korea in Sept-October is best, then I'd best be making plans for next year. These two are on my list! Watching the many Korean dramas on the tele makes me want to explore that country! Maybe I can see Japan the following year or so.

@@CreativeTravelGuide This tip also surprised me. I always take deodorant, shampoo, shower gel, toothpaste, toothbrush, etc., with me. Is it common for people to not bring this type of stuff when they travel and buy it on the country they're visiting?
Often people will travel light and pick up items like this on arrival. Some people may also stay longer than one deodorant will last, especially if they are touring Asia. Deodorant can be harder to find in many Asian countries. When we moved to China we would stock up on every visit back home and bring enough to last us a year.

Japan and Korea are very close, you may look into it and travel over there for one time , just need spending more time if you can.

I am coming in September. Do I need to pack plasters and pain medication etc I have allergies also like she’ll fish. Will Koreans be ok if I refuse food due to my allergies. I am vegan also so is their any vegan restaurants around.
I am visiting the back hospital in gangam so will I be safe getting a taxi to the hospital and back to my hotel on my own.
Google map doesn’t work well in korea. Use Naver or kakao map. They are more accurate.

Always check the travel advise of your destination at the time of your visit - things are changing quickly in all locations at the moment!

These are the rules as it stands but remember to check before you fly because they can always change :
You can travel without quarantine if you are:
A fully vaccinated traveler who has received 2 doses of a WHO-approved Covid-19 vaccine at least 14 days before traveling and within 180 days
Or
A fully vaccinated traveler who has completed their third dose of Covid-19 vaccine (booster)

Holding a bowl and eating it is a small etiquette in Korea.
However, there is no need to keep it unconditionally.
I think only the elderly over the age of 60 will point it out.
Japanese use chopsticks for rice. And for soup, they just drink it. So in Japan holding up the rice bowl to not show others eating rice(it can be messy). So it's manner for them i guess.
Korea, we use spoon for rice and soup. Korean rice is kinda sticky so you wouldn't see falling down some rice from mouth. Use spoon for rice and soup and do not holding up bowl for them is formal way to eat in Korea. but when you have meal with your friends and it's very comfortable place then it's up to you. You can hold your bowl and use ur chopsticks for rice. You can suit yourself.
I absolutely like your vids on south korea. But there's one place in south korea you really overlooked. Thats jeonju South Korea.

Currently, fully vaccinated (2or more) travellers can visit South Korea without quarantine. Unvaccinated or partially vaccinated have a 7 day quarantine requirement
