      @@steveshort2157 Hey Steve! Thanks so much for watching! Yeah, distance was definitely the biggest feature I was looking for since we live out in the country. I was definitely surprised by the range. I've now had the setup a few months and it's worked consistently. The weather has been cold here the last week ( between 0 and 15 degrees F ) - and the cameras are still working well. We've had a lack of sunshine though so charging hasn't been great during the day. Still above 75% though. Worst case if I have to take a camera in for a few hours to fully charge it, I can :) Cheers!

      @@steveshort2157 I just picked a set up, but like you, could not find anything about signal strength. I haven't hooked them up yet, but now VERY confident mine will work just fine as they'll both be within 50-75 feet or so of the base.

    Informative review, Pete. Your testing on the distance available between the cameras and the Homebase 3 is unmatched in any other review. That is the most important info to me and was not available anywhere else. After watching your review I clicked on your Amazon link and unexpectedly was able to get the $50 discount even though I ordered it on 11/5. Thanks!

    Hola! 🖐Thanks for sharing this video and providing your input on it. Grammy (my wife) and I are finally looking into setting something up to watch our elderly parent that lives with us since she is alone a lot while we are out at work. So many options out there so it is good to get this type of info from a RELIABLE source. Looking forward to an update and see how it performs today, especially after your tough winter. Take care and have a good one, Adios!👊

    I’ve been watching a lot of security camera videos lately. This one was by far the best. Lots of useful information and no fluff. Two questions. Can you plug the cameras into a separate Eufy solar panel? I would mount mine in the shade. Can one use a solid state drive in the home base?

    That was a great review. Thank you so much for that. I would like to ask some questions if I may. When someone enters the camera’s area of detection, how long does it take to actually make the detection, how long does it take to start recording and how long does it take to get a notification? Does Eufy also offer cloud as well? One last question, once the base is set up, does it have to remain physically connected to your router, or can you disconnect and relocate the base somewhere else in your home? Thanks again.

    Thanks for an informative review but as I found out when I bought mine the 27 feet hard limit on the motion detection it just a disaster as anything past 27 feet from the camera will not trigger an alert or start a recording. That was the deal-breaker that made me return them after 24 hours testing. Sadly the majority of the youtube reviewers miss to address this major design decision/issue with camera set up.

    Good video Pete - thank you. No one is explicitly addressing the question of home cameras are communicating with the HomeBase. It looks like the cameras are NOT using your home WiFi network. Instead, cameras are connecting to HomeBase via its own sub 1GHz signal. The benefits are known...but the limitation is that you cannot extent the Homebase signal to remote locations in your home. Am i understanding this correctly?

    Really good job on your video. I just got a eufy Smart lock and video doorbell dual. Both work great. Thinking about getting the same camera setup you have. My only concern is how well the solar panels will charge on rainy days. I'd hate to have to keep climbing up to detach and charge them.

    • @DIYPETE
      @DIYPETE  Před rokem

      Hi! I'm not sure they'd collect much on a rainy day or overcast one. But you can get larger panels that can attach to the USB c port on the back of the camera that would help collect more energy. We get a descent amount of sun in our area so it hasn't been a concern, but let me know what you end up deciding!

    I have been researching several different options as I want/need wireless cams and a wireless doorbell for the side door. I was excited about the eufycam 3 set ups but have been concerned about range. I even chatted with a eufy agent about this and she indicated a range of about 30 ft. I thought that was too short to be useful. Your demonstration is much more encouraging (although my property has a lot more trees near the home). Have you put cameras on opposite sides of the house from your base station to see about interference? Thanks so much for this video!

    • @DIYPETE
      @DIYPETE  Před rokem

      HI! I got another Eufy setup for my folks and the cameras are on each side of the home. The base overlooks the driveway that has a shop about 150 feet from it and then the other cameras are around the deck etc. I haven't had issues with them yet, but they are pretty clear shots with trees on the side of the driveway. I wish you could test them out for your situation. But Mine have all done well and the one out behind our home at the hockey rink works just as well as the one I have down by our mailbox.

      That's a great question and not 100% clear to me. They say they have a hassle free warranty and will be straightforward to help you out. It doesn't seem that they want you to change it or tell you how. It is supposed to last many cycles and if you charge it once or twice a year it should last many many years. However, with cold weather and knowing that batteries don't last forever, that is something I'd like to know more about as well. I'd certainly like the option to replace a battery if needed down the road. I will have to open a camera up sometime to take a look at it - and see if I can get an answer from the company. Thanks for asking and if anyone knows more about this please chime in!

      Hey! That is a great question. Their website does not say it can be changed. We have a wired camera at the front door that does 24/7 recording, and then the solar/battery powered cameras the review is on. They have been doing great --- but the test of a Montana / Minnesota winter is still unanswered. If I have to charge it a few times a year that doesn't bother me. But if the battery has issues that would be another story. We have a rental home with a battery powered doorbell and that has held up great over the past few winters. I will do my best to answer questions though as the winter progresses and I know how it performs in -20 weather!

      Hi! My homes connection speed is 150 down and 20 up. - But the home base sends out it's own unique signal to the cameras as well from what I understand.

    Ok, so I am confused. A lot of reviews and articles I’ve read said you can only link the Eufycam 3's to the home base and not the router, and people are only getting 30’ to 50’ LOS range. I actually found all of that out AFTER watching your review, and I was under the impression that you were using a mesh system or something in kind to get that distance, which is exactly what I was going to use to for a similar "whole property" application. Could you please elaborate on how you achieved your range? Is it because you plugged into your router in lieu of a modem? Or is there some other sorcery afoot here that a Luddite like myself is missing? Thanks.

    How is the range from base station to cam? Example 4 sides to 3000 sq ft house. Base station in middle with 4 cams on all sides. Does it work? I read 30 ft max. Is that accurate?
    If the range is no good, can I buy a second base and ethernet cable it to the router or a mesh node with a LAN port?

    Hello Pete, was the 16gb drive included in the kit. Thank you Tom.

      Hey Tom! It has a built in 16gb drive. If you want to upgrade it you certainly can. They sell 1 tb internal drives for around $45 on Amazon and that adds a lot more storage and is what I did. Cheers!

      Hey Mike! So sorry for the delay. It looks like my firmware is up to date currently ( Nov 10th, 2022 ) - the current version I'm using is 3.1.1.9 - Hope you are able to get yours updated if you haven't already!

    Is the camera case plastic or aluminium? UV breaks down a lot of plastics (including the mounts) and can also discolour the solar panels after about a year. Any info from Eufy on the build quality, waterproofing, etc? Suction mounts for placing cameras inside windows would also be preferred (with comment on solar effectiveness, there). Many solar panels now just need indirect light, not necessarily direct sun exposure. Will eaves affect the solar charging?

    • @DIYPETE
      @DIYPETE  Před rokem

      Hi David! The cameras are a ip67 rated and said to have UV protection. I can't speak to how they will hold up until I've had them awhile. I can say we have quite a few plastic antennas, a weather station, and other plastic items outdoors at our home and we haven't had issues or noticed any significant damage, but that's not to say things certainly won't fade or degrade overtime. We'll have to see. I haven't see many brands with aluminum or metal housing, but I like the idea of it. Yes, eaves will affect charging. The battery power is very good though and if you did need to charge it once or twice a year that wouldn't be a deal breaker for me. I do know you can get the separate solar panel units that would have a little bigger panel and a cord to charge the unit the USB C so that is also an option. Cheers!

    Can you set the specific detection area for which you want notifications for? For instance, so it won’t notify you when someone walks by on the sidewalk, neighbors on either side cutting their grass, etc?

    • @DIYPETE
      @DIYPETE  Před rokem

      Hi Chad, you can draw out specific detection areas to avoid getting a neighbor cutting their grass etc.

      Hi! Here is the compatibility information in case you haven't found this already: support.eufy.com/s/article/Compatibility-Between-eufySecurity-Devices - I would imagine it would need to be re-paired to the new homebase.

    Nice review Pete.. Has Eufy fixed the sync button bug? If someone were to steal your camera and press the sync button you would loose all of your recordings from that camera.

    • @DIYPETE
      @DIYPETE  Před rokem +1

      Hi! So there was another comment about this so I tested it out the other day. After testing both cameras multiple times pressing the sync button for 10 seconds - and even 30 seconds --- I could not re-create this scenario. All footage remains on my home base and the cameras are still paired. If this was an issue on previous versions I too would have wanted a solution. But after trying to replicate the issue on my system multiple times - I continue to have all events stored in the Events section and cameras remain to be paired. I have the 1tb expandable drive in the unit. If someone else has different results please let me know, but I'm not worried about the sync button being pressed if someone were to steal it. Cheers!

      @@DIYPETE Thanks for testing it out Pete. If someone were to steal the camera, I just wanted to make sure the recordings would stay intact, that way would know who the culprit was, or evidence for the authorities.

      Just got the 2C 2 weeks ago. Tested a camera by holding the sync. It did disconnect from homebase 2 but the event video’s remained available. Did have to sync the camera again to make it available for use again as expected.
