I've been fortunate enough to see them both in concert,when I lived in Atlantic City,NJ.Didn't get to meet Mimi but the show(2019,Caution tour)was epic!!However...Chante's show,with Kenny G & Keith Washington,early 2000's was a bit more intimate,so i got to meet and shake her hand.She was very sweet!I told her how much of a big fan I was and she thanked me for coming!!Show was phenomenal and she had a cold but never missed a beat!!Kenny and Keith were great too!🕺🕺🕺🎶🎶🎶

I had the blessing of meetings her and Kenny at the Jazz Cafe in London they sounded better live than the recording, she also invited me to the church she attended in Atlanta. Her singing & voice can stand on their own without any need for comparison because she has her own distinct sound that's not even close to Mariah's own unique style, but to say that Mariah's whistle is inferior or that she followed anyone other than Minnie Ripperton is complete nonsense even though Chante is 3 years older because MC debuted 2 years prior to CM. 😂 Was she a psychic or something then? Also, I suggest you all watch the "Mariah Carey: Empress of the Whistle Register" right here on CZcams. 15-min compilation of all the multiple techniques that she is capable of producing with her whistle sounds that she can pull from her arsenal anytime depending on what the music, the moment & emotion calls for. She & Minnie are the only ones who can actually even add operatic vibrato to their whistles, which is extremely difficult to do. And Mariah can even vary the way the vibrato is done. That's just one of her crazy skillls. Chante can do a bit of it here but only in quick, unsustained bursts. We all have our own faves of course regardless of those technical capabilities but don't claim something that's simply untrue just to prop anyone up. It doesn't actually flatter the artist who DOES NOT NEED YOU TO LIE FOR HER OR AUGMENT HER BRILLIANCE FOR IT TO SHINE ON ITS OWN. And if you've actually listened even casually over the years, you'd know that for sure. She even spoke about how her throat doc uses her vocal cords as part of his lectures because, weirdly so, those nodules he found out from his examination through scope are positioned in a way that actually helps her do her whistle notes & in such remarkable ways. So those 2 factual reasons actually directly contradict your ignorant assumptions even more. She's never had difficulty with her whistle notes because those sounds are made in the larynx without involving the same exact parts we use normally for speaking & singing with the chest & head voices, which are the ones that get affected by cord nodules & inflammation, unless the problem is so severe that the person just doesn't even want to use any of it anymore due to the discomfort & difficulty. Besides, none of what you're focusing on matters to the topic anyway. It isn't fair to compare the talents & abilities of younger or luckier people against those who are already way past their prime or are impaired by personal/health issues as well as negative forces & impediments outside of their own control that significantly diminish the quality of performance they'd shown at their peak levels. This is all just about the singers' peak TECHNIQUE/EXECUTION, which we can discuss from a purely OBJECTIVE standpoint, kinda like how gymnastics, diving & boxing are scored mechanically. Which singer you prefer in the end for other reasons, regardless (or maybe also because) of their better technical proficiency is when our subjective opinions come in. I mean, I love Bob Dylan's singing even though he's often cited as a great (Nobel-Prize-winning) songwriter/poet who can barely carry his own tunes, but I disagree that he could be better as a performer. He sings his own songs exactly as they should be sung, with the utmost pathos, thoughtfulness & quiet turbulence of a true poet-philosopher. Adding anything more is going to be distracting from & destructive to his art & music. Indeed, many of his own diehard fans probably don't give AF that those 3 big divas I mentioned above: AF, WH & MC were ranked within the Top 5 of Rolling Stone magazine's 200 Greatest Singers of the Rock & Roll Era not long ago. All of whom had been reduced to a small fraction of their peak capabilities with time, age, illnesses & life challenges. Do you know who was ranked higher than MC at #4? The great Billie Holiday (one of her own faves), whom I think was closer to Dylan technically than any of these great singers in that her "technique" seemed more to be that she didn't really have any. She barely had an octave & a half in range 😝 in her voice that also didn't sound conventionally pretty, never heard her even attempt to scat or ad lib the way Ella & Sarah were masters at. Chante even in her sleep would have sung circles, up & down the stratosphere around her. But she pierces the heart (well, at least mine & many others) like no one else does whenever she starts crooning in that distinctive, warm voice. There isn't anything technical that can be pointed out as astounding about her vocal skills. Her imperfect singing is simple in design but profound in its impact. She's indeed a "Strange Fruit" that sounds familiar & comforting. Why that is is precisely the subjective sentiment that's utterly inexplicable.

The whistle range does not belong to Mariah Carey. There are many singers who have it and sing it (some more than others). I was surprised to learn that Jill Scott can sing up there (although she chooses not to except every once in a while). Chante has been doing it for decades!

I love Chante. Her singing & voice can stand on their own without any need for comparison because she has her own distinct sound that's not even close to Mariah's own unique style, but to say that Mariah's whistle is inferior or that she followed anyone other than Minnie Ripperton is complete nonsense even though Chante is 3 years older because MC debuted 2 years prior to CM. 😂 Was she a psychic or something then?
Also, I suggest you all watch the "Mariah Carey: Empress of the Whistle Register" right here on CZcams. 15-min compilation of all the multiple techniques that she is capable of producing with her whistle sounds that she can pull from her arsenal anytime depending on what the music, the moment & emotion calls for. She & Minnie are the only ones who can actually even add operatic vibrato to their whistles, which is extremely difficult to do. And Mariah can even vary the way the vibrato is done. That's just one of her crazy skillls. Chante can do a bit of it here but only in quick, unsustained bursts. We all have our own faves of course regardless of those technical capabilities but don't claim something that's simply untrue just to prop anyone up. It doesn't actually flatter the artist who DOES NOT NEED YOU TO LIE FOR HER OR AUGMENT HER BRILLIANCE FOR IT TO SHINE ON ITS OWN. And Chante herself pretty much shut you all down by practically saying the same thing, just in a more diplomatic way not long ago on social media for this. She also loves MC. But you're all basically doing her no favors by being unnecessarily defensive for her.

I know about Mariah's problems due to her vocal cord nodules that she's understandably reluctant to undergo surgery for due to the tragic mishap that happened to Julie Andrews, who had to retire from singing in 1997 after they accidentally injured her laryngeal nerve during the same procedure. But MC's issue is more concentrated in her upper chest vocal register, which goes in & out of hoarseness on its own random schedule, not the mid & either of both extremes of her range. Fortunately, however, Mariah's whistle register is actually the one aspect of her voice that has remained intact. And if you've actually listened even casually over the years, you'd know that for sure. She even spoke about how her throat doc uses her vocal cords as part of his lectures because, weirdly so, those nodules he found out from his examination through scope are positioned in a way that actually helps her do her whistle notes & in such remarkable ways. So those 2 factual reasons actually directly contradict your ignorant assumptions even more. But the fact that you continue to rely on actually avoiding the TRUTH that even CHANTE HERSELF keeps yelling at you about speaks more about your own insecurities that the singer you're trying to "defend" doesn't have about herself. She doesn't need to denigrate others by deluding herself.

You're the one who's actually lying blatantly on here. 🤣 There are hundreds of fan footages of her singing just a few clicks away right here on CZcams from her last tour this past holiday season, which actually forced her to train her instrument intensively for a while again & resulted in great improvement like usual whenever she tours extensively. That's why I always choose the last few dates to see her shows. 😈 Never fails lol. She's never had difficulty with her whistle notes because those sounds are made in the larynx without involving the same exact parts we use normally for speaking & singing with the chest & head voices, which are the ones that get affected by cord nodules & inflammation, unless the problem is so severe that the person just doesn't even want to use any of it anymore due to the discomfort & difficulty.
Besides, none of what you're focusing on matters to the topic anyway. It isn't fair to compare the talents & abilities of younger or luckier people against those who are already way past their prime or are impaired by personal/health issues as well as negative forces & impediments outside of their own control that significantly diminish the quality of performance they'd shown at their peak levels. It's like watching Michael Jordan play ball now at his current age & wondering why people thought he was one of the greatest athletes. 😂🤣 Same for when Aretha & Whitney sounded towards the end of their lives. The only reasons anyone might gloat about other people's natural decline are that: 1.) they hate the weakened object of their ire due to some personal vendetta( which I don't imagine anyone here has against these artists), 2.) they're completely ignorant about or uninterested in the disliked person's past/present condition (which is also fine, just don't pretend that your position is based on anything other than FALSE suppositions) &/or 3.) the only way for anyone to feel better about their own insecurities, misery & envy or loss was if their competition slowed down. Yeah, your hearing, reading comprehension & even any sense of logic, let alone any basic wisdom, are definitely lacking. You couldn't follow the real topic of the discussion. You don't even seem to have any idea about singing, voices & the technicalities in the production of sound from the larynx, let alone anything about the anatomy involved & the physiology in voice production. A PERSON WITH A HOARSE VOICE CAN STILL WHISTLE WITHOUT ANY RASP USING THEIR MOUTH. It's the same principle with MC & CM, except that they'd trained themselves to whistle from their larynx, but it doesn't require the full machinery like when we speak or sing in full voice.
This wasn't about opinions or tastes at all. This is all just about the singers' peak TECHNIQUE/EXECUTION, which we can discuss from a purely OBJECTIVE standpoint, kinda like how gymnastics, diving & boxing are scored mechanically. Which singer you prefer in the end for other reasons, regardless (or maybe also because) of their better technical proficiency is when our subjective opinions come in. I mean, I love Bob Dylan's singing even though he's often cited as a great (Nobel-Prize-winning) songwriter/poet who can barely carry his own tunes, but I disagree that he could be better as a performer. He sings his own songs exactly as they should be sung, with the utmost pathos, thoughtfulness & quiet turbulence of a true poet-philosopher. Adding anything more is going to be distracting from & destructive to his art & music. Indeed, many of his own diehard fans probably don't give AF that those 3 big divas I mentioned above: AF, WH & MC were ranked within the Top 5 of Rolling Stone magazine's 200 Greatest Singers of the Rock & Roll Era not long ago. All of whom had been reduced to a small fraction of their peak capabilities with time, age, illnesses & life challenges.
Do you know who was ranked higher than MC at #4? The great Billie Holiday (one of her own faves), whom I think was closer to Dylan technically than any of these great singers in that her "technique" seemed more to be that she didn't really have any. She barely had an octave & a half in range 😝 in her voice that also didn't sound conventionally pretty, never heard her even attempt to scat or ad lib the way Ella & Sarah were masters at. Chante even in her sleep would have sung circles, up & down the stratosphere around her. But she pierces the heart (well, at least mine & many others) like no one else does whenever she starts crooning in that distinctive, warm voice. There isn't anything technical that can be pointed out as astounding about her vocal skills. Her imperfect singing is simple in design but profound in its impact. She's indeed a "Strange Fruit" that sounds familiar & comforting. Why that is is precisely the subjective sentiment that's utterly inexplicable.

The whistle range does not belong to Mariah Carey. There are many singers who have it and sing it (some more than others). I was surprised to learn that Jill Scott can sing up there (although she chooses not to except every once in a while). Chante has been doing it for decades!
