- Tejas Mk2 or Tejas Mark2 is a replacement for the Indian Air Force Mirage 2000, MiG-29, and Jaguar class of aircraft.
Tejas MK2 is medium combat aircraft and can carry more than 6.5 tonnes of payload. The roll-out is planned for 2023 and first flight by December 2023 and production of the Mk-2 version by 2026.
Tejas Mk-2 is single-engine aircraft designed by India’s Aeronautical Development Agency (ADA) and Hindustan Aeronautics Limited (HAL). The Tejas jet has been touted as one of four leading light combat aircraft (LCA) in the world today, according to a latest research report.
The Tejas Mk2 is going to be equipped with an AESA (Active Electronically Scanned Array) radar, which would be indigenous Uttam AESA radar developed by DRDO.
It is an scaleable radar means that the TRM (Transmitter Reciever Module) of the radar could be adjusted according to the power provided by the aircraft and it is expeted that Tejas MK2's Uttam AESA radar will have 992 TR Module.
The heart of any aircraft is the engine, Tejas Mk-2 is going to be powered with a more powerful GE F414-GE-EPE, estimated at about 120 kN. Same engine is used in F-18, Gripen and T-50. This engine is highly reliable and hence it will give more availability.
The cockpit of Tejas MK2 will feature a state of the art Large Area Display with side-mounted HOTAS (Hand on Throttle and Stick) throttle for better operational viewing, similar to F-35 or any other modern aircraft.
Tejas MK2 Weapon Package: It can carry various indigenous weapons, such as the anti-radiation Rudram missile, the Brahmos NG supersonic cruise missile, Astra MK1 & MK2 beyond Visual Range Missile, SAAW Smart Anti Airfield Weapons and swarm drones.
