Slect manual focus and your AF ON back button focuses. Easy!
On my x-t30 I programed the Q button for back button since I have no need for the Q menu. Works very well!
Would be great to have a similar function to AF-ON that focuses on the subject and locks the auto-focus (i.e. the focus indicator flashes green) with a single press and release of a button.
I use BBF, but learned that when shutter half-press AF is turned off, the screen touch function “Shot” that is supposed to both focus and release the shutter does not focus (only releases shutter). Restored shutter AF half-press and the “Shot” touch screen function will focus and release the shutter, as it should. Can’t have cake and eat it too, I guess.
BBF on a Fuji can be achieved without any of that messing about reassigning buttons. Select manual focus mode. Pressing the AE-L button focusses the camera in M focus mode and then pressing the shutter button does nothing to your focus because the camera is in manual focus. And then selecting AF-S or AF-C then takes you back to normal operation. Simple.
Frances. Once you assign your button for back button focus, isn't there also an option that allows you to choose to press and release the function button to hold focus vs. having to hold it till you shoot?

Great tip. Question, though, cause I'm considerably less than a novice. Does the shutter button freeze both exposure and focus at half-press? And, what is the rest of the shooting equation when using {AF On}? I have been using half-press to focus, then re-positioning camera for frame placement. This could change the exposure in some circumstances, correct? So, with AF button, frame, set focus point, press {AF On} and shoot (assuming the use of aperture or shutter priority?) Will {AF On} remain activated for use of remote or shutter delay? Thanks for your kind assistance.
