I'm glad to see that we are from the same old school. When in doubt, remove the back seat. People right away bust out the look and damage the trunk/deck lid and don't even consider rekeying the locks. My old lock smith charged 10 bucks to rekey it for me. Great work as always!
I hear ya man!; and fixxing that truck lid after they've beat the hell out of it isn't easy. All I can do is shake my head.... because it's so easy to just go through the other way and save you a ton of time and money in the end.
Boy I hear ya man. People don't realize just how hard it is to fix that once they've pried the heck out of it, and beat the crap out of it with a hammer.... ug
Great video! I have had to drill out a few mopar trunk locks in the past, most recent was a 65 belvedere, had so much stuff in the trunk I couldn't get to it with the seat out! I've never taken the latch off like that before though, I always stick a screwdriver in the slot in the latch and open them. Thanks for sharing this video, I've saw so many that folks have butchered and destroyed by not doing it the right way!👍
Thanks Mitch! Yeah, I couldn't get all the way in there to pop that horseshoe clip with a screwdriver, so I took every extension I have and just undid the latch instead... lol. I've seen so many trunk lids just totally destroyed by people prying and hammering on that poor lock cylinder... and it's only a few bucks to have a lock smith cut you a new key for it.
I remember when I was a kid, my uncle locked his keys in the trunk and went through the back seat. I don't remember what kind of car it was, but didn't take much to get it opened. Good job Sir. One thing about the head, the same head was used on the 170 (1960 - 1969) 198 (1970- 1979) and the 225 (1960 - 1987) . Wait, I think in 1984 Chrysler went to hydraulic lifters and they changed the head. As well.
Thanks Bert. Yeah I don't know how many times I've seen a trunk lid destroyed by people prying and hammering that lock cylinder off out of there... ug As for the head.... I think that's the reason this thing went off the road, but now the bad thing is.... it's been off for a long time now. The cylinder walls don't look too good, and I can see where someone has beat on them trying to free it up.... ug. I hate it when an engine is popped open and left outside to the elements. I have my feelers out for another Slant, but they are extremely rare around here. Today I looked it over pretty good, and Worse Case Scenario... I think I can do "bolt in bolt out" mods to it, to get something else in there as I slowly rebuild the Slant. Just something to get it on road for now without cutting and welding so when it's ready for the OEM I can pull it to drop everything back in as it was..... I don't know, depends on what I can come up with as time allows. But I'm really hoping to keep it as it is.
and the sad thing is..... when I got it out of there and took it to Mel's Lock & Key to have a key made for it.... it was under $5, and the key works in the doors as well. (sorry about the late reply, looks like yt held them and dumped them again)
Did you check the back of the back seats? That's where a lot makers or whatever used to put the build sheet, check the under the bottom of the back seat and the back of the back seat. I'm sure you probably thought about that, just making sure buddy!
Yeah... I think the mice done got it Doug. It looks like it was there at one time but it's long gone now.... Oh well. The title is good and that's the only paper 📜 I really look for... 😆
This is the first time I saw this video and I wondering if you might have found the build sheet for that car. I know Chrysler used to hide them under the seats sometimes.
Yeah it was mostly there, the mice got about half of it though... Same with that 68 Mercury. I keep them around for covo pieces but other than that I don't pay them much mind. By the time I'm done with them they are pretty far from the build sheet lololol
@@BareRoseGarage You musta fell on your head or something! Actually I'm looking at a little fox body mustang drag car right now. Not sure if I can make it happen but maybe!
You can often put enough very long extensions together that you won't even need to get into the trunk. It's a breeze. Pinning your new lock or getting keys made is easy too. Don't be afraid to learn how
Very very true! Pretty much how I did it on this one, because there was a LOT of stuff in that trunk.... lol Thanks for stopping in man, come by anytime.
Did you happen to fine the build sheet behind that rear seat BareRose? I have heard that that is where they put them at sometimes. Good idea to just crawl through the trunk and open it.
Awesome project BareRose!! But have no experience with Chrysler products...That's all my mom's side of family..Belvederes. Savoy's.New Yorkers n stuff some AMC..Long way to the Top ⚡⚡if ya wanna work at BareRose Garage!!⚡⚡
Thanks Ron, yeah I haven't done much with Mopar either, they are really rare around here. But for $300 I couldn't pass this one up and it gives me something to tinker with while I'm waiting on parts for the others.... lol. I'm always tinkering with something..... lol

Used your video to open a locked 66 mustang, thanks again!
Way cool and thanks a million for stopping by Sydney!
I don't think it would work for a 77 seville, but good job man👏👏👏
Pretty slick going through the backseat and not destroying stuff
Thanks MOFO! and thanks for stopping in man
Hey Bro!!! Got your song on right now!! It's a Long way to the Top?!! My Boss bought me mini radio mp3 player? Never had one but man it's Great

My kind of dude. Take your time and get er done right!
Thanks a million for that dannyjackson! Far better to spend 10mins extra to save you 10 hours later.

Thanks Chris!
@@BareRoseGarage You're welcome!
Some cars have a metal firewall between the trunk and the rear seat as in my 1981 Fiat Spider-no can do.
That's a nice Dart!
Thanks Cley!
See what you done did to me.... I seen all the fun you have with Mopar, so I had to drag one home... lol

Thanks for the tip.
you bet!
Good stuff, keep 'em coming.
Thanks man! and right back at you!
Thank you…trying to get in the trunk of 1975 Celica
You bet maesterophlyspanish! A '75 Celica you say.... you don't see many of those little guys around anymore for sure!
Done that a few times before! Funny how the rear seats seem to all attach the same in most of the USA Made cars of that era.
Very true Hubbie! and for the most part they are really simple.

I can see here it was... but the mice love those Build Sheets. It was reduced to powder pieces is about it.

Yeah, that chipboard is pricey stuff even though it's basically compressed sawdust.
absolutely insane what they want for that... lol.

Fire resistance
If I remember correctly; on my 1962 Valiant, I would push the seat backward & down to clear the front clips. Is this correct?
I'm going to have to do this on my 1963 Dart; the key no longer works.
nice
Thanks 👍
Get a lock pick set. That’s what i do
These lock cylinders are known to freeze up though. I'm dealing with one right now in a 67 GS400. The key won't even turn the lock cylinder.
Another issue is, this is a convertible I'm dealing with so there is a huge metal plate between the back seat and the trunk... Fml
Does anyone know what size are the bolts?
These ones where 1/4x20 (7/16 wrench) but I don't remember how long they where, also I believe they change depending on the year and model.
