    With the dates on these comments I realize I’m a little late to the party (I’ve only been in the hobby 2.5 years), but I still felt obligated to comment because of my very strong feelings. That was an absolutely PERFECT teach and review! You continually state your personal opinions and then state VERY clearly why YOU feel this way AND why others may not. This tells me everything I want to know. My friend and I run a small game group in which 99% is new to us games. Jongetsgames is one of only three channels I recommend. Great Job!

      I'm glad you enjoyed this, even though I no longer make review videos like this anymore. I do create review-esque content still, but it's in the form of Patreon only opinions vlogs these days. Thanks for the kind words!

    Excellent review Jon! I hope the publisher listens to you and releases an expansion with more objectives soon because this looks fun.

    This is the first time I'm seeing one of your videos.. Amazing job. I love that you include the times of the sections and convenient links to click and the awesome banner on the left side of the screen. Super nice work!!

    Hey Jon. First time viewer here - found your channel through the Last Place podcast. Great review; really articulate with well argued points. I really like your systematic and analytic approach with the positives, neutral and negatives. I also appreciated the fact that you mentioned how many times you have played the game (something all reviewers should do), how many times you won, and how analyzed your game experience and how it might affect your opinion of the game.

    Love love love love the player count segment. Thanks for that!

    I couldn't disagree more regarding the objectives - I love how most of them are scored in the last round, because the last rounds is so tight and nuts anyway with players trying to get scoring tiles. It causes excruciating decisions about whether to get a bunch of barrels, or get that last scoring disc you desperately need before someone else snatches it up.

    12-17 shed is poor planning. Be intentional about going low or going high, and don't get the lousy shed. Barrel scoring is about timing... Do I grab fewer barrels on this round, or wait a round to grab a few more at the same time without wasting a move now? I suppose these are personal opinions of a game, so I can't fault you for yours. For me, this is one of the best 'dry Euro' games of the last few years, which tend to be my favorite types of games.

    • @JonGetsGames
      @JonGetsGames  Před 6 lety +2

      I've been thinking more about it since filming this, and it does seem like the "bad shed" is the game essentially saying that going for middle ground values simply isn't as good as a high or low ones. This is OK I suppose, but my personal opinion is that I wish it was abit more rounded out so that none of them are "bad". Thanks for your input :)

    Great Review Jon! Just a small correction in the description: the first timestamp should be 14:14 not 14:!4

    Fantastic stuff Jon, wonderful review. The more I’ve watched your channel, the more and more it stands above so much of the content out there. Clean, crisp and classic.
    Have you played the third kennerspiel nominee, Quack Doctors? (Or some translation on that)

    That endgame scoring certainly is funky, but I'm so glad you didn't let it get in your way too long. I think of it as having a better brewing monk who is able to use the ingredients at hand better than a clumsy monk - thematically sound, no? I've said it before and I'll say it again, I would not be surprised to see Kramer win the SdJ and KdJ with Azul and this one.
    Great nuanced review as always! Keep up the great work, and best of luck on part-timing!

      Ricky Eads Yes, Kiesling. Oops...good catch! I mix K&K often. Just played Ever Green and got confused all over again.

    I was so interested in this until I saw the myriad of common unchanging objectives. I wonder if someone will come up with a decent house rule for limiting them and/or having some of them as private.

    • @berijeux
      @berijeux Před 6 lety

      Even with 2 players, you really struggle to score these objectives when you don’t have to think too much about which are available. So if you put fewer of them you’re gonna struggle even worse. And you already do struggle a lot with this game beside objectives.

    i played the 2p, 3p and 4p games yesterday and every game was different in terms of flavor! :) i loved how fast 2p and 3p are. I won 2p and 3p - i got crushed in 4p. The winner at 4p was the other guy who played all 3 games. He scored 99 pts wtf haha

    • @JonGetsGames
      @JonGetsGames  Před 6 lety

      Wow 99 points is rediculous! The best I've seen is in the 60s.

  • @Wildhorn666

    A simple idea for variability. Only use 6 objectives per game instead of 12.

    • @RandLemley
      @RandLemley Před 6 lety +1

      John Newhouse Or mix the quality. Use six 4s, then use the 2s of the other types. Still keeps all in the game, but rewards them differently each time.

    • @JonGetsGames
      @JonGetsGames  Před 6 lety

      These ideas certainly could help the game out, especially at lower player counts.
