I’ve got the Retron 77. But with limited compatibility and the fact that my capture card doesn’t even detect it 90% of the time, I’m VERY skeptical about buying anything else Hyperkin. Not to mention the Retron 5 I have that took a s***. I’d be interested to know the shortcomings if any on this unit. I’m streaming on the 77 at 8pm tomorrow if it will cooperate...

Tidal Yacht mmm looks like hyperkin is in deep trouble, 1, many of their retron 5 systems are fragile inside, those pin connections are unreliable etc,,,
2, if hyperkin stole those emulators then they will get sewed by those company’s/ownders behind those emulators and they will also get nintendo and sega knocking on their door, hahaha.

Best review I've seen so far! Cool intro lol! Can you use the audio jacks to go straight to an amplifier or mixer or will they get canceled out because of using the hdmi? Just curious in case some people don't have audio out on their tv or if they don't have an av receiver.

Haha, that intro, god damn. It brought me back, I play on original hardware with the HD Retrovision cables, but I also play a lot of Sega CD. If I didn't I'd see myself getting one. Great vid as always my dude.

I removed the casing for the original power base converter and tested out some Master System games. Using HDMI it inverts the colors unless you run it in PAL. Composite NTSC-U things ran fine. The 3D glasses and light phaser games worked fine as well with a CRT.

I know it’s the trendy thing to bash on Hyperkin, but for what they are aiming to do, they seem to be doing a decent enough job with their products. I’m still eyeing up a Retron5, so this might not be for me, but it’s good to know that there is a cheaper option if I wanted to stick to just the Genesis! Thanks for the review!

Second Breakfast as someone who has the 5-The ability to put English patches on Japanese games as good. However the build quality leave something to be desired especially on the pins. The Genesis port has a death grip. I recently got a super nt, And I am getting the mega SG and plan on unloading my retron soon. Also input lag on SNES Is bad.
In regards to the Standalone units I cannot speak about because I don’t have one
Totally getting one to be able to play my Sega on HDTV’s with ease. Like you I just want to plug in and play. This seems the perfect simple solution and for a great price. (PAL - UK gamer here)

Sounds pretty nice and at a good price point. We'll definitely have to do some more research--even at that price, it's tough to pass up, but definitely want to make sure there's no compatability issues with certain games.

The Analogue Mega SG is going to crush that. I bought 2 Retron 5s and both died within six months. My Super NT is still going strong and will for years.

Great 90's commercial jump at the beginning. For the price, I really want to pick one up and run it through some paces against a model 1 and 2. Test out the SMSpower base adapter. Saw that SMS "worked" with the everdrive so there is hope.

Hyperkin makes great products! I have the Retron 5 fully updated and the Hyperkin Smartboy for my Galaxy Note 8! Their products are amazing! I even have their sticker on the bumper of my car!

From what I understand...yes, but I have not tested it yet. I wanted to give just a basic look at the console ❤️Don't hold me to the power base convertor working though. Since I did not test myself

I love my OG Genesis on a PVM with Scarts the most but throwing it up on the big screen? Well the Mega Retron HD is exactly what I was looking for. Sure it's not 1080p and it doesn't have all the screen filters and all that of Analogs new machine but I don't really need all that plus at less than 50 I'm perfectly happy with how this thing performs. 10/10 for me on this awesome little machine! :D

For the price it sounds very decent. Most of the other Sega Genesis/Megadrive options out there ness up the sound (looking you AT Games).
I had a Retron 5, but was never happy with it (updates would never apply, constantly freeze, wouldn’t play some games).
Recently I got a Retro Freak during a 50% off sale and am very happy with it. But even at 50% off a lot more expensive than this one.

For someone looking for a great way to play Genesis/Mega Drive on an HDTV its hard to not recommend the MegaRetron HD~ $45 is definitely a killer deal~ Ive been using mine a lot lately! Highly recommended!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Tbis thing tugged at my heart strings when I saw it looked like a Dreamcast. And one thing Hyperkin seems to always Excel at is the controllers, they are all very solid and that x91 like you have in the back is my current controller of choice for PC games and emulating on Retroarch, except mine is black. But question, how's the Sonic 2 sound? We're not getting any Atgames nonsense right?

Something my buddy pointed out is that even in the Sonic sound effects....you can hear the "ring" sound effects go through both ears which apparently many "clones" mess up. So props there! ❤️

Do not hold me to this, but from what I understand is that it should since it is not emulation. But I will pin a comment once I find out from Hyperkin. I do not have a 32x anymore so i cannot check myself. ❤️
I just picked up my first ever Genesis at PRGE (after trading away my Retron 5), and so I'm happy to finally have real hardware to play my Genesis games on. That said, it looks like crap on the Trinitron in my game room, so as soon as I can afford to order the HDRetrovision cables for the system, I'll have it pumping out glorious RGB. I've got a Framemeister hooked up to my 4K TV, too, but I usually prefer to use the ol' SD TV for retro gaming these days. :)

I'll admit, I didn't take Hyperkin very seriously when it comes to these clone consoles they come out with. But surprisingly the Mega Retron turned out better than expected. This has got to be my favorite review of the console so far. And yes, your shirt screams the 90's, it hurts. Totally rad, dude

@@PixelGameSquad same here man. I couldn't stop playing with mine. My only issue was when I ran the official Sega controllers, they reconfigured "up" on the d-pad as pause. It was weird. But with the Squire controller and a few third party controllers I own, they seem to be working fine on my console. There were some flaws on the Mega Retron, but they were minor and they don't bug me at all. This is easily one Hyperkin's best works, in my opinion. I also like how the Squire controller could run Forgotten Worlds, because normally if you used a six button controller, it meant instant death. Seems like they knew what they were doing.

I love the look of that Mega Retron HD.
We have the Retron 5 which is also by Hyperkin which plays NES, Famicom, SNES, Super Famicom, Genesis, Mega Drive, Game Boy, Game Boy Color, and Game Boy Advance.
We got it because in the UK its so hard to find an original NES at a decent price, plus out Mega drive finally met its maker, so this was a perfect option for us.
Weve now put away the snes and the game boys coz we just play it all on the Retron now.

@@PixelGameSquad it should do, you said it plays the everdrive carts which means its playing off the cart not loading it in rom and playing that, it will probably play the virtua fighter an racing cart too for the same reason, hell if its running the cart same as the megadrive it may be hackable to play the 32x, all depends how many pins are wired to the edge connector, and how much of the megadrive/genesis is emulated.
but if it plays everdrives you might have the ability to play the master system and 32x roms via that, these are all things we must try.
Kinda knew how you felt as a kid, we have a Famicom back then but Dad bought a Sega Genesis Cartridge instead of a Famicom by mistake. Took 3 whole months to wait for a Sega Genesis from my Aunt to play the games😑😑

For the price, I think this is the best Genesis / Mega Drive clone out there - not as accurate or feature rich as an Analogue Mega SG, but for under $100 it’s best in class 😌
