    After a long wait, I finally get the head back from the machine shop completely rebuilt. in this video, I will show you how I install the head and head gasket. I recommend getting your head done by the machine shop as they have the tool to test and inspect.... much much better than just eyeballing it. they can also install a new valve seal, check for any damage on the valves, and they will even adjust the valve clearance for you. You can do it without sending it to a machine shop but Do it right once and be done with it.
    torque specification
    **Stock bolt Style 29-34 ft-lbs, then wait 15 minutes, and 43-47 ft-lbs. then run the engine for 25 minutes and turn each bolt another 25-30 degrees.
    **Torx bolts need to be tightened to 22 ft-lbs, turned 90 degrees (1/4 turn), and then an additional 90 degrees.

    This part: "then run the engine for 25 minutes and turn each bolt another 25-30 degrees" is nuts. Literally button everything up, then run it, then REMOVE the VCG again and do the final tightening?!? Crazy!

    Great video. Just one remark... i see you used the Torx headbolts. I ordered the Elring torx headbolts and the Haynes manual states that you do not put washers with the torx headbolts. Washers are only with the hex headbolts...

      Thx... its debatable whether to use the washer or not...
      1. Brand of the head bolt ie genuine head bolt have much beefier seat than aftermarket almost like a thick washer in itself
      2.lenght .... without the washer aftermarket (the one i used) headbolt will sit 3-4mm deeper
      3. Material of the head ie.. aluminum head are softer washer will hep spread the load evenly...
      Im not sure on the design of elring or hayne manual but the brand that i used use the washer and all the specs i used r from mitchell ondemand

    How much time did it take you to each remove and replace the head?
    Did you check the block for warping?

      I'm sure the machine shop would have addressed it if it was.

    Isn’t the cylinder head timing reset after it comes from a refurbish shop? How do you adjust the valves according to the block?

    • @mechanicslife24
      @mechanicslife24  Před 3 lety

      I didnt get the question
      You mean how to adjust the valve clearance?
      Or how to set up the timing?
      Valve clearance u need feeler gauge to do it
      Timing for the head there are marking on the block and crank pulley for the bottom end and marking onhead and the cam gear for the top part that u will need to line them up

      @@mechanicslife24 right, but doesn’t the shop reset the cylinder head? . Like aren’t all the valves closed? ...I’ve never took a cylinder head to a shop before .

      @@fleshvehicle9140 if you line up timing mark on the cam pulley, the cam will be in a position that only allows certain valves to be open/closed

    Can i reuse the same stock head bolts to fasten the head again?

    • @ernestocastellanos6446
      @ernestocastellanos6446 Před 2 lety

      No, those are designed to stretch, get new ones from bmw
      Or you can get some from ARP but they have stronger bolts and are NOT designed to stretch so the torque specs is different. They have it listed on their website for your specific engine or you can call them
