You’ve hit the nail on the head with how players play these days. Happens in Halo Infinite too, no one wants to use the vehicles in any kind of cohesive fashion like we used to in Halo 2/3

@@Djuuuuuu I don't know how the reward system works in halo infinite, but perhaps they are letting everyone level up (no matter how shit they play) in order to unlock stuff in the battle pass. This then incentivises some people to buy the battle pass.

A couple of reviews have made me laugh as well by making a big deal of how "this is the first entry in the series EVER not to have a single player campaign". Erm, 1942 and Vietnam (which was really just a re-skin of 1942) didn't either, they just had bot matches. But I guess they don't count for some reason, right?

Yep the vehicle ettiquete comments are very true come to think of it. I remember in BF2 even playing with bots, you had a quick chat shortcut to ask for a ride and if a bot was passing by with a vehicle they would stop by you and honk their horn. In 2042 you cant even spawn as a passenger in a vehicle at the start of a match so all the vehicles speed off to objectives to get their xp while the other 50+ players per team have to either run for a couple of minutes or redeploy at an objective closer to the fight.

In BF42 and 2, I used to specialize in sneaking around the frontline and capturing points the other team wasn't guarding. That created a ton of memorable moments, including an evening-long Enemy at the Gates style rivalry with another scout, among other things.
With the newer games, I feel like the EA "pre-packaged experience" philosophy shows once again. It feels like they've got a list of gameplay situations they want players to experience and they built the game specifically for those, but nothing more. Instead of building a gameplay loop that works, they tend to build gameplay tours. It's like splicing together trailers to make a movie. Sure, you get all the explosions and set pieces, but you'll miss out on the substance and repeat enjoyment. And that just won't make for a good game in the long run.

Regarding people running right down the middle- I think it’s just what’s been encouraged by gaming trends. A lot of shooters have become ‘twitch-based’ in the sense that they’re more dependent on quick reflexes and stuff like that. There’s been a huge shift from ‘macro’ tactics like flanking and positioning to micro-ones such as peeking, quickscoping headglitching, corner camping, etc. The speed at how fast everything is in a lot of shooters these days really enforces this- there are fast TTKs, fast-shooting weapon’s, fast spawns, smaller maps- everything’s meant to get players into action as fast as possible. Of course they’re going to get out of spawn and run in the general direction of the enemy ASAP. Why would they waste time flanking when they’re liable to just instantly die and have to spawn all the way back at base, when that same time could be used recklessly charging into chaos and potentially racking up kills? It’s an instant gratification vs long- term thing, I think.

This argument has been made so many times and it just doesnt hold water. It is a provable matematical fact that games now are deliberately simplified and made easier. I am a younger gamer who has missed the old games, but every time I play an old game now or a game is made in the spirit of old games like Pathfinder for example I am blown away by the level of detail and just how much everything makes sense compared to games now. They are hard to play forcing you to learn the game and utiliaze all its features which is rewarding and fun. You see clear as day with every new instalment the game being stripped of features and depth. You dont even know why you play anymore, there is no way to actually fail to complete a game and there is nothing to learn. Its brainless , waste a couple of hours, entertainment. Its for passive passionless shallow people. And if you cannot see that maybe you are that kind of person.

I remember back in the day there was some games that required you to be in game chat like mw2. Multi-player was more fun when most people communicated. Now it's all about each individual player and their gain rather then winning the match like call of duty.

'They don't know what they're doing with the franchise, and I think they should start listening to the people how play it.' This strikes me as the most incredibly obvious business strategy and I have no idea how no one at EA/DICE at a corporate level realizes the importance of selling to their existing target market rather than some audience invented to fit their hopes for monetization.
They are so focused on having the most profitable monetization (lead designer, only previous work was candy crush, quit just after 2042 launch) that they are not doing any market research on their target audience and are totally tone deaf to what their customers actually want to buy from them. Just from a business perspective, it's totally unreal.

Its unfortunate but such games do play like this nowadays around the launch period, as a lot of people who have no real interest and time to put in also hop in.
In a few months time though, genuine strategies start emerging, bcz people who remain are the ones that either know of them or learn them with time, and it becomes much more competitive.
Bf5 right now is in such a state where people actually put effort, strategize and play properly.

The fundamentals of the gameplay were there from the start, they just needed to work on it and refine it after launch. Unfortunately they went into other directions after launch, tried to dial back the tactical and classic teamwork stuff they built into it, by making it more casual friendly(though they did reverse most of them back again).
Its still the best frostbite bf game in the classic bf regards, but also with the glorious destruction, visuals and gunplay that modern frostbite enables.

Those Devs got it right; 128v128 combat, one team pushing the objectives, another defending them but unlike Battlefield, it was organised because the objectives weren't all over the place. They were in a line the whole width of the map and if one platoon got the objectives on the flanks, you'd be able to rush the defenders into the middle, you know using those things called tactics. This was over 10 years ago, with 256 players feeling just like they're in a war. Bring back MAG!

Massive maps, 100 players per map , great weapon ballistics . You definitely will have to use mic or you will get kicked out from most of squads (they do mic checks at the start of game) , you will have to work with your team and squad leader and it takes some time learning how everything works because Squad has quite few mechanics compared to your mainstream shooters but it is definitely worth it. I spent nearly 300 hours playing it and every game is different and amazing.

People did it anyone in a few games and it was SO FUN. People just refuse to work together, or don't know how to.
