    Props to the lecturer for his patient salvaging of the interviews.... two "case studies" into the unit and it is apparent that getting meaningful engagement out of the student interviewers is like squeezing blood from a stone.

    I have experienced discrimination in China. When I was 10 years old, I moved to a tier1 city from a tier2 city with my parents in 2001.Even though my family is relatively wealthy and both my parents are very well educated, my classmates even some of my teachers in school really looked down on me because I'm from an "inferior" city. They often laughed at my accent,etc. Fortunately as time passed, I have made lots of friends and never feel being discriminated since then.
    As more and more people have migrated to major cities in China recent 20 years, I'm sure this kind of discrimination is not mainstream any more

    • @ohmygodlawl
      @ohmygodlawl Před 2 lety

      @@danielkwon6364 theres no purpose, its just a label to define how economically advanced the city is. For example in the U.S a tier 1 city would be NY, LA, SF. Tier 2 would be Chicago, Boston, Miami, Seattle. Tier 3 would be like Charlotte, Colorado, Memphis.

    • @pashaw8380
      @pashaw8380 Před 2 lety +1

      Wrong and quite different in that regard. The 56 ethnic groups are distinctly different from each other in terms of spoken language and culture. There we have Mongolian Chinese, Uygur Chinese, Tibetan Chinese, Han Chinese, Russian Chinese, Kazakhstan Chinese, Uzbekistan Chinese, Korean Chinese, Manchurian Chinese... and so on. Chinese is not a race or an ethnicity. It is culture. Whoever is a citizen of China or a native born is considered "Chinese" regardless of his/her skin color or eye shapes. Native American tribes in the States are a bit different compared to the 56 ethnic groups in Mainland China.

    i think there is lot of race discrimination in China, more through black ppl, less to white ppl. And there is always small groups of Chinese dislike all foreigners(Includes Vietnamese, Korean, Japanese), Even though for others, our appearances look the same. If you ask (black white or other races or countries and Japanese) which one Chinese hate the most, the answer is Japanese due to the reason of Invaded and War.(However, the educated Chinese will tell you also the Russian as well,*Unfortunately, due to Communist tide with Russia(S.U.), CH "covered" the RU history of massacre through Chinese*) If you ask: do Chinese ppl have its own issue within their own race group(the answer is YES; we have more than 56 ethnic, The parents probably won't get alone each others everyday, 56 ethnic groups in a same country{you tell me!?})(China is big, but only certain places r good for living). Furthermore, locals r not like each others either. Shanghai ppl dislike ppl from other than Shangahai, Beijing ppl dislike ppl from outside Beijing. Guangdong ppl has their own dialect, they treat non Guangdongese less respect because they feel they don't share the same dialect. (PS, HK dislike Guangdongese either, even though they share the same dialect. HK PPL believe they r better, cuz they live in a special international trade zone).
    Due to lack of education of older generation Chinese(its a generation that CH didn't have capability/opportunity to allow/provided Chinese the environment to study), So there were lot of bias have been passed down. But, I do believe the New generation Chinese is shaping a better and a much more equality place for Chinese future.
    However, IF YOU ASKED, ONLY IF YOU WANTED TO COMPARE WITH THE WEST. I CAN SAY THIS, 100/100 Sure. West has much more discrimination issues than China. Like US don't even cover, they express out their feelings *straightforward, like a new babe who can't control.(which great, I like straightforward person, at least they r not fake. why should ppl covered their instincts for living?. However, when it comes to issues like discriminations. my question is discriminations come from natural instincts or taught by environment ?) On other hand, China is more like a adult in his 50s, less aggressive on discriminations through others. Because of having Confucianism and Taoism culture background influencing them to be polite and to be respect to others. regardless, Chinese ppl who are now Buddhism or Christian, in Our blood majority of us r humble and respect through others thats indeed came from Con&Tao(even they might dislike you, they wont say or wont show infront of u) . That's why many see/think Asian as fake/weak characters, in fact, cuz we hide our hate/love feeling, we don't express ourselves that much freely cuz Con&Tao, n we don't like violence. not that we can't fight, its that we believe strongest power is not come from fist or gun.
    There r issues and discriminations everywhere, however this is not the reason why We should let it be the way how it is. We can change this, Don't let it Be!
    As I look down at my feet today to see where I stand, I asked myself does it matter the color of my shoes, or does it matter the color of this land?

    The Hukou system in China is the biggest discrimination in China in my opinion. If the Chinese dude in the video gets a job in Shanghai after graduation, he cannot buy an apartment or house immediately even if he has loads of money because he doesn't have Shanghai Hukou. His kids in the future cannot go to high school in Shanghai because he doesn't have Shanghai Hukou.
