I don't know why everyone is pretending to be so confused about this, a reckless closeout is a reckless closeout. It would have been an automatic flagrant during live ball, people are acting like the fact that it happened after the whistle is some kind of defense but in reality that just makes it even worse because at that point there's absolutely no reason for Bam to make such a dangerous move.

The cause is bam deciding to run out like a maniac after the whistle, and the effect is Tatum rolling his ankle. An illegal contest is still illegal even after the whistle guy
It was called because its a dangerous play from Bam. If a player tried to dunk the ball on a dead whistle and got shoved in the back while in the air, they would call that as well. There is a line here, and the refs made the correct call to protect players. If we stop calling things like this based on dead ball plays we are looking at full on tackles and kicks during timeouts.
Plus Bam has a clear history. I give him a little cred over Embiid who's plainly dirty, but this is the norm for Bam. It was a flagrant, the whistle has nothing to do with it. Needing to swat a meaningless shot and get into his body, then under his foot (Tatum embellishment notwithstanding - paying homage to PP ofc)...it was unnecessary, intent or not.

I'm a Celtics fan and it blows my mind this is even a conversation when the Celtics fricken head coach was trying to block shots earlier this year. The Cs will never learn, this is what happens when you don't close out games and series. Heat without butler should not win a game, but Celtics take them lightly or think they can roll out and win and series get extended and more chances to get injured and more chances for butler to come back or anything and when Tatum sees butler he pees himself and all bets are off.
